Cant wait for the update, also it's cool you let all your mates use your equipment like the top dresser and mowers but I see your always there with them so it doesnt come back f****d😂😂
Love these videos will you also do a video in the spring of this lawn returning back to TiffTuf? Please do! I’ve seen a lot of videos on overseating with Rye, but very few on returning in the spring . Thanks again for all the great content
For someone such as myself in the States with a cool season lawn, I'm always shocked how much damage you can do to bermuda and it will come right back. Great vid and thanks to you and other Aussies putting out content while it's Winter for me.
It was meant to be one the weekend but unfortunately life got in the way mate, I have a video waiting in edit, then I also drove all the way down (1.5hrs ea way) to film part two of this and it was flogging down 🤦♂
@The Aussie Lawn all good mate. Im just keen to see how it's all going as I'm going to have a crack at an oversow in a couple of weeks. Never done it so really waiting to see how that one cones up. Can't wait for the video.
@@theaussielawn bloody outh it will I get the “is that fake” all the time 😂. I kept my PRG going right through spring and summer to see how it would hold up in the heat, went really well surprisingly but a lot of work in the hotter months to keep the colour up and stay healthy, just did full oversow and looking to start all over again in spring with something different. How do u find the tiff tuff mate. Keep hearing a lot bout this Tahoma 31 but have always liked the look of tiff tuff and seems to hold good winter colour
Happy Easter Brenton, great video like you said with Tiftuf it can thatch up. I have Bermuda full reno done in late Qctober and now its showing signs of thatch again. I thought it was PGR causing the problem so didn't use it this year but still have the thatch again.Looking forward to your follow up video Cheers.
Can't wait to see the results on this one. Good video mate I want to do this to my lawn but maybe not this year this will be my first winter with the tiff tuff.
@@theaussielawn yeh that’s the main reason I’ve never done it previously as our temps don’t really get the cold and you can keep warm season grass looking good year round here. in saying that a few guys do it in Brisbane and we’re only 4 hours north. I’ll test the waters 🤣
I actually just did all this today. The only problem is I didn’t think about applying PGR a couple days ago before scalping it. We are approaching dormancy in Texas USA however I think we still have 2-3 weeks of growth left. Shoot. Do you think not doing PGR can cause havoc for me? It’s Tif 419 Bermuda. If you have any suggestions or tips please let me know. I’m hoping the Bermuda doesn’t grow tall and then I have to deal with half alive half dormant Bermuda for a month while the Rye tries to grow which I fear might cause thinning Rye. Not sure.
It will ultimately depend on how cold you guys get in winter, If you frost regularly or even snow I think you should be ok without the PGR on this occasion but best practice would be to use PGR next time . From my understanding you guys are often unable to scalp down to the levels that we achieve here if this is the case and you still have some Bermuda material exposed there is an opportunity to treat the Bermuda with some PGR NOW (if you have some at home) BEFORE the Rye has a chance to germinate. But that window of opportunity is very small. Hope this helps
Looks great! I’m tempted to do the same with my tiftuf. Mine isn’t as well kept, no weeds just thatchy. Does that change the steps at all? Also it’s not had PGR before. Going to heavy to start with, will that impact its spring recovery?
It wont change anything mate depending on your location it really is getting rather late to start a oversow project. The same sequence applies, Spray PGR at a heavier rate Take tiftuf down to dirt etc
What product would you recommend to use on perennial rye grass to control winter grass, wither as a pre or post emergent? Most of the common products (oxafert, munns etc) explicitly say not to use on perennial rye. Is barricade the solution?
@@theaussielawn appreciate the advice. Seems like an extremely difficult product to find. Might just use the amgrow winter grass killer like last year. Just had some ugly looking results.
What pgr rate would you recommend if it's also the first time using pgr? I suppose it doesn't matter if it yellows the lawn as it'll be scalped anyway.
Just wondering if you are going down to dirt is it worth running the de thatcher over it first to remove the thatch? Doesn't the low mow achieve the same result?
Easier on thyself and easier on thy scalp mower to dethatch first, also the low mow doesnt quite scratch/rake at the dirt so will definitely miss a thin layer of dead crap. It can be done but not aswell as lightly scratching the dirt. It also lifts/cuts horizontal growth and thins everything out to an extent. Alot of beneficial reasons to dethatch/scarify first
I have it right open i think.. BUT I did make a little adjustment to mine when i first got it. I drilled out the holes on the bottom ever so slightly too.
Right ok, I was curious about the rate of seed spread but it would sound like the heavier the better from your comment. If I just opened up to max setting I'm assuming I won't go wrong then.
Yeah definitely not for everyone but the beauty about this sorta stuff is you can choose to do as much or as little as you're comfortable with. Its a win win
Gotta love 2 strokes👌.
They love a bit of load.
Nice work.
That lawn will look mint.
Top quality work.
Yeah Im with you on the 2strokes mate I love them

Haha Its not that I don't trust people with them. But if something happened to them they are more or less irreplaceable. Particularly the scarifier
Great stuff Brenton. Enjoying your new style of videos. Very informative.
Cheers mate
Great work mate such valuable tips !
Thanks Jason 😎

hahah yeah I can totally understand that, Warm season grass type such as Bermuda can take an awful beating and still come back strong
Finished my first oversow yesterday following this process. Hopefully comes up a treat 🙏🏼
I reckon you will be very happy mate
@@theaussielawn At which point (day) would you recommend throwing out some plant doctor liquids?

Hi Anth, I will be head back down soon to film an update I can tell you its germinated wonderfully
Nice mate, keen to see the progress on this one. Thinking of doing a rye over seed on small section of T31 this year.
Id be very curious to see how you go with Rye in your climate I wonder if it will actually get cold enough I'l be keen to see it if you do Trav

I think its a mob called blue gum or something very similar

Have a look at a product called "Ethos" mate it might be suitable Sorry for the delay in replying

I'm guessing he gave it some love in spring time in the way of a scarifier?
Also what granular fertiliser was he using?
Ill ask him in the update vid mate
What’s that mower called you used to scalp?
Its a Victa Pro460 aka Utility,
Hi, how many grams of seed per m2 did you use ? Thanks
Hi Gary we used 4kg per 100sqm
Can I overseed if I have already applied pre emergent ?
In short no mate you cant the seed will not germinate as thats the purpose of a pre emergent chemical such as Barricade
