There are many reasons to think that Steve (and any Minecraftian, like Alex for example) WERE ALWAYS STRONG. The most used example is that they can carry not only kilos (I don't know what measurement the US uses for dough), but directly TONS of gold and even eat TONS OF GOLDEN APPLES AND ENCHANTED GOLDEN APPLES for another appetizer and for survive. Hell, not only is it strong and tough, it has a stomach of some chemical and physical element beyond human knowledge and imagination. And these, I repeat, are just a few examples of how strong Steve/Alex (or Minecraftian) is.

The only thing I'm glad about is how minimal his arsenal is. Yes, he has access to:
- Minecarts
- Anvils
- A crafting table
- TNT
- Diamond Materials
However, think for a moment how much more he could have had:
- A brewing stand
- Healing potions
- Splash potion of slowness
- Lingering potion of poison
- Bow & Arrow
- Chest
- Dispenser
- Ender Pearl
- Spawn Eggs
- Armor (and armor stands)
All I'm saying is that I'm thankful Steve is only given the tools he has in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The competitive Smash Ultimate community would be more doomed than it already is if Steve was given any of the resources in the second list.
His character design already represents Minecraft really well, but if they added all those other features, that would've been so chaotic!
That’s basically what I’m saying. Not only would adding all those extra features be very chaotic, but they’d also make him that much more unstoppable/unbeatable… and harder to play as.

Now imagine if steve had all the tools of minecraft pvp.
Netherite armor -damage sponge and reduced knockback
Bow - flame projectile
Crossbow- multishot explosive projectile
Trident - get smited by lighting
Enderpearl - teleportation
Potions - Postive status effect
Splash potions - negative status effect for oponents
end crystal - instant nuke
Mace- infinite damage
I try not to imagine how chaotic that would be 🤯
More terrible Steve additions:
- Nether Portal (extra dimension for every stage, or maybe one shared for all, also implies netherite which has KNOCKBACK REDUCTION!)
- The Wither
- Axe crits (disabling shield & mega damage)
- Enchantment Table (essentially like equipping random spirits)
- Totem of Undying (not really a move, but still busted. Maybe a new item that heals % when you get hit with a high % attack)
- Snow Golem (cute)
- Beacon (huge flex if you're winning, but requires you to kill the Wither, and be rich)
- Doors (look up door pvp, it would actually be busted)
- cobweb (almost insane, but soft countered by all the sword characters. annoying regardless)
- Sniffer (scary)
- Warden (silly)
- tall grass/fern (😳)
- functional sponge (Squirtle and inkling can cry about it)
- Enchanted Golden Apple (yummy!)
- Arrow of Levitation (one hit K/O)
- Removed Herobrine

right now in aus we are holding a vote to reevaluate and potentially unban steve which is cool. personally i'm not too fussed if he's banned or not since i'm the absolute skill floor of my scene but i wouldn't mind a soft ban since i sometimes like to troll online with a no mining no crafting steve every once in a while and want to troll irl too.

Steve can do anything, cancel hitstun, platform camp… ON A STAGE WITH NO PLATFORMS, Steve can just float in the air sometimes, jab combos into a million more jabs that you can just walk while jabbing and then spike with a forward air to kill your opponents at 0, brawl meta knight up air, forward smash being the fastest in the game (the gold version to be specific), a command grab… but wait, THERES MORE. Hey i loved the editing in this video. In regards to Steve, i love the funny block man. I don't believe he is the most broken fighter in the franchise: my vote still goes to Meta knight.
Steve is capable of some insane stuff, as is Brawl MK. The difference is their environments. Steve can do crazy things in a game where crazy things are the norm. Not that brawl doesnt have interesting and quirky gameplay itself, but Meta Knight is leagues above everyone else power wise. I believe Steve is beatable, and it really comes down to player skill at the end of the day.

Sonic is just as detrimental to the health of the competitive scene as Steve is, so if someone wants Steve banned because of that, then it should be done in tandem with a Sonic ban, except TOs don't want to do that so as far as I'm concerned, the ban discussion is completely off the table. Coming from an avid DBFZ player (at least before patches turned it into M.U.G.E.N.), a lot of the Steve detractors truly have no idea the kind of degeneracy and over centralization that comes with _genuine_ meta killers.
Also Sonic is Top 1.

Sick video! But the tournaments who have unbanned Steve are not due to community perception of the character, rather it has to do with Nintendo's new guidelines on running tournaments.
The official guidelines (which must be followed or get sued by Nintendo) say you cannot ban characters, or add any mods to the game.
If you watch Melee @ GOML this year, there Pokémon Stadium is no longer frozen for this reason. It's unfortunate and takes control away from the community.
