  • Watch Kevin Schulz in Single Sessions Episode 7 comparing two Rob Machado shapes built in Helium Technology: a stock 5'2" Too Fish and a stock 5'2" Machadocado. This episode was filmed at San Onofre State Beach, in San Clemente, CA.
    Kevin's verdict? While both shapes have similar outlines, volumes, and are both best-suited for small wave sessions, the Too Fish is your choice when you want to stay cruisey and go down-the-line, and the Machadocado is your choice for more performance and versatility.
    Pair the Too Fish with the Machado Twin Keel Fin Set, and pair the Machadocado with the Machado 2 + 1 Fin Set for best performance.
    Single Sessions is your opportunity to eaves drop on aspirational performances in relatable waves - the world’s best surfers in everyday conditions riding Firewire and Slater Designs shapes built in Helium and I-Bolic Technology.

    Always appreciate these candid comparisons in average conditions. Kevin’s got a talent for articulating board feel, strengths and weaknesses that resonate with most of us. I ride a bit more volume than him or Rob because I’m not as talented/experienced (e.g., I’m int-adv, above avg fitness, 5’9” and 155 lbs, surf similar socal waves, and I love my 5’4” Seaside that’s 31.5 liters). For those of us who are sometimes on the fence when choosing board dims & volume, it would be interesting to see Kevin or Rob size up a few liters (within the stock dims) and see the review comparing the same board at diff volumes since some boards still go/turn really well with some extra foam. Noel Salas does this sometimes and I always appreciate that since most of us can’t afford to test the same shape in two sizes. Keep these coming-super grateful for Firewire. I’m a loyal fan!

    Too Fish looks better. I’m not stoked on the 2 plus fins he came up with. They look slow and too squirrelly. Every wrap he finishes looks like it loses hold and it doesn’t look good. I think Rob should’ve stuck with the Seaside and Too Fish fin template and made a 2 plus based on that so the boards are more seamless. It’s obvious that each board is the next iteration so why not? Ask Rob to redesign some fins more aligned with the seaside and Too fish. I have both. I rode the seaside in everything as my daily for 2 years and swore by it. Now I’m in the Too Fish and I’m over the Seaside. At first I thought my Too Fish would be for groveling, but it worked so well in double over head slabby waves here in HI this weekend, that I don’t think I need my seasides anymore. I have way way way more fun on the Too Fish and it seems to work as a daily driver for me…loose and skatey. And the twin seems better for pulling into barrels too on late take offs. Too fish my new favorite. I’ll likely get it again as a backup, or if I get the Cadochado I’ll run the Too Fish fins. The videos I saw of Rob on the twins looks way way better in my opinion.

      If you look at the fins kevins Cado as he walks up the beach, he’s actually riding the Endorfins twin plus 2 trailer set (black with the blue dot) not the new Machado twin plus trailer set.. would be good to see Kevin ride it with the new set as that new rear fin of machados is bigger

    • @mikeuptegrove
      @mikeuptegrove 20 дней назад

      @@dothin1124 I didn’t notice in this video, though I know he likes those Kelly fins and Rob gave him some shite for not pairing his model up with the fins. So maybe it would ride differently. But I’m sorta thinking a bigger twin on the CadoChado might be the way. I wish he’d have came up with a fin template that stuck true to the Seaside and Too Fish fin iterations. I just think that that would be more seamless. I’ve had almost zero transition time wasted getting off the seaside and onto the Too Fish, and I think it’s that the fin response is nearly identical despite the bottom concave being very different. I actually like a full single better than the single double v on the seaside. At first I didn’t but it forces you to set your rail a lot better and by being forced to do that your surfing is much better. It could be that the squash tail is what’s making it all squirreled out finishing wraps, and not the fins. But the footage I saw of Rob on it with the Too Fish twins looked more solid under foot.

      @@mikeuptegrove I have the Too Fish and the Machadocado. I feel like the Cado grovels really well but can handle more juice. (Haven’t had real waves to test it in yet). Happy to hear you like the Too Fish in better surf. I love the Twin fin feel- I’ll be sure to see how far I can push it.

    • @mikeuptegrove
      @mikeuptegrove 20 дней назад +3

      @@nduich definitely. At first I was only using it to grovel. Then half way through this last bigger swell I was like F it, gonna give it a go. I immediately regretted that I didn’t just surf it the first day of the swell and swapped it out for something more pulled in with a little more rocker. I should’ve just stayed on the Too Fish. I feel like I found a new gear in the board now that I only unlocked after pushing it in bigger surf, cause even today as we were trending back down with just leftovers, I kept pushing it harder on rail and kept getting more out of it. Whereas before I had all the extra speed on the bigger days, I didn’t know I could push it that hard. Now that I know I can, I am, and even in the smaller surf I’m making it find more speed I wasn’t previously certain it even had! Thing is sick though. I’m probably gonna end up riding it exclusively like I did with the seaside, which I also found had a lot more than I thought it would. Guys would trip out when it was maxing and only like 4 of us out, “you’re still on the seaside”?! “Yep”! So now it will be the Too Fish.

      He probably should’ve been riding a 5’4” Cado to be in line with those volumes and a fair comparison to the 5’2” Too Fish.
