_There is a Konkani poem by the famous Goan poet late Vishnu Surya Wagh titled * ‘Mhaji Bhaas’ *. The overall context and the purport of the poem is different, but the opening lines hold a beautiful meaning. In his poem Wagh says that *our ancestors used to speak a language which was far more advanced and beyond the man-made technicalities. They used this language not only to speak with their fellow humans but with nature and the nature gods. The trees, grass, Deouchars, Rashtroli - who are revered as protector spirits in Goa*, as well as regional deities Kelbaay, Saateri and Lairai could understand that language. In short, *this region, this nature, this soil and its people were existing in unison. Each and every component was guardian of this territory*._
