    My truck started doing the exact same thing a week a week ago, the fans would run on high non stop, also my dash cluster gas mileage digital display started messing up, a few days later my battery crashed. After replacing the battery everything went back to normal. My ford Motorcraft battery was 8 years old. I just wanted to put this out there for others before spending countless dollars on other things. I know this might not always be the case or issue but it was the fix for me.

    Fantastic video. My 2013 F150 suddenly developed "must turn on high speed fan" syndrome for no good reason I can find. Nothing I can test or measure says that this extra fan speed is needed. AC tests out as perfect as I know to test, all temps look perfect at all times yet for some reason, when the ambient gets above 90-ish, and the AC is on, the fan goes to "make all the noise you can" speed.
    By chance is there a temp sensor somewhere that "helps" the ECU decide this fan needs to be on? Regardless, I've pulled the high speed relay leaving both fans to function normally but stopping the fan's ability to go high speed. I'll monitor it but since the fan NEVER went on in 9 prior years, I'm betting all will be good.
    Any thoughts, speak up! Many thanks for your concise info. PC

      I forgot to mention that all this seemed to become an issue after FORD flashed it for some kind of issue. Not saying, but seems awfully coincidental. Onward and upward.

    • @Pridanc-oj4ot
      @Pridanc-oj4ot Год назад

      OK, just did some more testing but more to come yet.
      Pulling just the High Speed Fan Relay #5 for some reason did not stop "ludicrous" mode in the fans. They still went into crazy and of course Loud As Heck.
      So started the car this AM and pulled fuse 15 as well as the same relay #5 as before (so now both are out) and so far that seems to have done the trick. My only concern now is this: Do any fans come on if the engine just needs some cooling? Not AC aux fans, but engine cooling fans. I let the car idle for 25 mins and temp never got high IMO. Yes monitored it via the dash as well as with a temp-gun.
      I've not tried the high temp start but will as expect 105 degree weather this afternoon. Recall for my situation, there seems to be something to do with outside temp as part of the equation. Stand by for that. However, fans go on as soon as I engage the AC and go off shortly after turning AC off. At least that function works.
      Still remain to see if the fans needed to cool engine come on. We shall see. Oh, and remember, YMMV as this is hardly the most exacting test. Just one that works for me for now.

    • @Pridanc-oj4ot
      @Pridanc-oj4ot Год назад

      OK, Removing those two items #5 and #15 may have killed the fan #2 (per this video but the noise is back. Let me explain.
      As I mentioned above all seemed good during my morning tests with ambient in the mid 80's but I still had concern of the OAT (outside air temp) as I have felt for some time now that this was a factor in the fans but not certain how and almost as interesting, why would it be? If the engine is cold there is no need for fans at all until the AC is activated and at that time I expect the fans to run some as that is normal for any AC system.
      Now that the excessive fan noise was back, I opened the hood to see what was up and indeed the previously pulled fuse and relay (#15, 5) had stopped fan #2 (my mind says the larger of the two but not sure. I'll have to check) so this noise, the really big noise, was coming from fan #1 (smaller one I think) this is the fan on your right as you stand in front of the truck looking into the engine compartment.
      This surprised me so I quickly installed the fuse and relay (the #15, 5) which as you'd imagine turned that fan #2 on full force. Oddly, its added noise sounded a level lower than fan #1 so I then decided to pull the relay #85 which is the one he points to in the lower right hand side of the pictures in his videos. This fan is the "low fan control" relay. This cut the overall noise significantly.
      With only fan #2 running now, still in silly mode, I drove the truck around for about 35 miles in 103 f heat. Engine stayed cool, AC still cooled exactly as it has for 10 years now. All this tells me I've got some more work to do to figure this out. First off, no way do these fans need to run so hard. OK, maybe in Dubai but even in the warm climate of Texas, the last 9 years have said NOPE, not needed.
      I'm going to test the AC system again but don't expect much. Even then I may change the expansion valve for grins and giggles but along the way I'll see if I can't track down a ford technician who can say "yea, there is OAT sensor that sends info to the fan controller. I've no understanding of why the OAT affects the fans as it does. Probably a combo of things but still, my gut thinks that the FORD flash has something to do with this on my truck. 9 years quiet running, reflashed and the BOOM, noisy fans and to the bet of my ability all else is still good.
      Last item. I may simply replace the fans with new high performance quiet fans wired to activate with the AC and to activate when the engine gets warm enough to need more air drawn over the radiator.
      And yes, I've been staying at Holiday Inn Expresses lately so I do have the needed education. OK, thats it. I'll keep the info coming. Any thoughts and please share with me so I don't have to work on this forever.
