I think Kirsten Dunst nailed Marie in this. Yes, the movie didn't follow the history much, but the way she smiled and laughed and behaved was similar to how Marie really had been. She was raised in a relaxed austrian court then got placed into a rigid french court. Of course, her behaviors seemed a bit abnormal to them AND lets not forget she was 14 when she was sent to France. She was just a child. A teen!
@@anotherbigfootwithinternet2147 Not exactly true. Yes her spendings did affect an already tarnished economy, and France had been going about this for quite a while. The country was already starving before she was even born. The true problem was the huge life differences between the lower class even compared to a simple noble worth no account.
Kind of weird having an event in French history spoken with American English. I would like to see an American revolution film spoken entirely in French
Marie Antoinette's problem was that she was 14 when she married her husband, the dauphin, who was 15. Then when King Louis XV died, she was all of 18 years of age while the new King Louis XVI was 19. I mean...yeah...they were too damn young to have ascended to such positions of massive power and wealth. I honestly think that if her husband had ascended the throne at 30, none of the terrible things that befell them would've happened. Mostly because she would've been a mature woman and he a mature man. They would've had the seasoning to take up these positions responsibly. Instead she was a teen and an early 20-something who acted her age. That was Marie Antoinette's biggest sin, and biggest life mistake.
While I know what you mean, Marie Antoinette was Queen for 18 years. She wasn't a "Silly little Teenage Queen" forever she was a grown woman. And Plus her death is entirely Louis XVI fault even if she was Queen at 30 or 19
In England the late 1700s would have been considered the Georgian era, named after the four British kings named George who ruled in succession from the early 1700s to the early 1800s. The Victorian era began in the 1830s with the reign of Queen Victoria. That said, Marie Antoinette lived the French Ancien Régime period (the time before the French Revolution). It's funny that you should despise an entire historical era, but to each his own.
@@annwe6 Marie Antoinette wasn't French she was Austrian. She was an Austrian Arch Duchess in her own right. She was born in the Hofburg Palace in Vienna. Her father was the Emperor Francis I and her mother the Empress Maria Theresa. What on earth are you going on about?
@@ds1868 Quite right you are! I was "going on about" historical eras and completely spaced on the fact that Marie Antoinette was born Austrian, not French. Thanks for the correction. She rose to prominence as a French Queen during French Ancien Régime period, that's why I mentioned it. The same era in Austria was the Habsburg era, which lasted for over 800 years.
It's customary to wait until the end of a performance to clap. The aria she was listening to was in the middle of the show so it would normally be considered rude and out of place to clap then.

She's precious.
This movie absolutely made for her. I like it...
@@felegyhazifilmklub agree. Her little giggles are the cutest
Thank you all❤️
Agreed but she was part of the reason why France was so fucked up then.

I love this movie and Marie Antoinette and also Kirsten Dunst how she act, her acting as Marie Antoinette is very marvelous! ❤️ Great Job!👏👍

@Winnie Pooh if you wonder why nobody really loves you. Just reread these kind of comments of yours.
Laughs in French dub.
It symbolizes real Marie’s German accent while speaking French, she sounded different from the others at the court.
then shoot one
Get over it ya softie😂
Sophia Coppola is a visionary
She was a little girl. I incist... Too young to take care of such thing like royalty
technically not a little girl, she was 14 but yes still extremely young

Fun fact
Marie Antoinette was a dotting mother, she adopted more than 1 kids, she even adopted a black boy & freed him from bounds of slavery
Although I despise the british and french victorian era I will admit that kirsten dunste did play a very cute marie antoinette.
This was like 100 years before the Victorian era

Wrong time but okay, go off
Kirsten deserved an Oscar for this one.
The irony of this being 3 minutes, and only when she was younger lmao
It's so sad how History books portray her 💗misunderstood💗
What about her is misunderstood?
She wasn't misunderstood. People were fucking starving Emma.
omg thank you
The hairstyle with a boat in there 😂 I love it.

They didn't clap in France?

At royal opera no
They didnt clap...
The french royal court was so rigid...

You don't clap in the middle of an opera. Even today.
My top 5 movie
Amazing
1:27 What’s a boat doing in her hair? I know the old hairstyles were a bit weird, but this?
It was to celebrate a naval victory.
