Belum lagi Marie Antoinette adalah seorang Austria dimana Austria pernah menjadi negara musuh Perancis. Marie-Antoinette adalah seorang wanita yang menjadi korban rumor, fitnah dan skandal misoginis. Ia adalah seorang gadis muda yang harus meninggalkan keluarga dan rumahnya serta pindah ke negara asing tempat ia diobjektifikasi dan dicemooh oleh masyarakat. Citra Marie-Antoinette yang merendahkan tidak dapat dibenarkan dan menutupi pengaruhnya sebagai penentu gaya dan budaya serta tokoh politik terkemuka di Eropa abad ke-18. Rumor tentang pergaulan bebas Marie-Antoinette menjadi topik gosip dan skandal di Prancis. Ia dikabarkan telah berselingkuh dengan banyak pria dan wanita. I heard an interview with her where she speaks a little French during the filming of the film and it is absolutely not the same voice as the one we hear in the film. There is a difference between having studied French and speaking it fluently without problem and Jane Seymour may not have felt comfortable enough to speak French during filming and was therefore dubbed
