Hey, creator of metro here, thanks for judging the challenge, I think your ratings are fair and this video has some good advice. Next time I'll try to make something more original rather than just remaking hl2 again.
To be honest, I thought you would of sugar coat every map knowing how gentle and nice you are but when it comes to judging, you're an excellent one. Agreed with every score.
Damn right. Making maps is a great activity to do for fun, and shouldn't be judged a lot per se, but if you're participating in a contest be ready for criticism.
I am not shocked of this because he made a csgo map and it was a very well-made. Only people who can do such great maps can judge how good/bad a map is, rating the gameplay feeling is a plus
Is the premise of Cosmonaut that you're a cosmonaut who missed the alien invasion because you were in space the whole time, and just came back? Because that's pretty awesome
just finished Cosmonaut and it was awesome! Really looking forward to updates. Is there any way to get oneself updated when a new release is done other than just remembering the title and looking it up? :)
Ayyyyyyyyýyy, its ya boi, created-the-lone-map. My map lone (alone?) Was quite deserving of a 5/10. I even feel that may have been a bit generous being that the end bit was so bad and nonsensical. The first bit was quite nice however I think. I made good use of puzzles and they were obvious enough but not to condescending to the player. The combine bit was where everything started to fall apart however, which was unfortunate. I also ran into a lot of bugs during development including the lighting bug and not being able to add any decals to levels 2 and 3 without a shitty decal error (Still pisses me off). All in all, a solid entry with a couple significant flaws and some poor gunplay. Thanks for rating it! Happy you enjoyed it.
Just letting you know - I really enjoyed Lone and the lighting bug didn't appear at any point during my playthrough. With the exception of the mines, I thought the gameplay was solid and the puzzles were creative. Too bad philip couldn't experience it as it was meant to be.
Two year old comment, but I just thought I'd say that Lone was actually quite a bit of fun, even the Combine bit. The mines were the only thing I found annoying, but other than that I actually had fun fighting the Combine, and trying to outsmart the Strider, although I feel like I didn't have enough room to move around without getting impaled by it. Other than that, I was actually more engaged in the combat of Lone than Cosmonaut, since in Cosmonaut it's long range and you don't really have to maneuver as much.
In Here Again you're supposed to wait for a female citizen to come and lead you through the door, the fight only breaks out after you have entered to room...i guess you broke everything buy crossing that lazer field....
Yeah.... not to proud of my map [Grigori]. I was way to busy during the time of the challenge and probably shouldn't have even tried to enter. Either way, Great video!
oh yeah, I put those behind there because I wanted to give the player more to shoot at if they so desired. In retrospect, there was *plenty* to shoot at in my map, and I probably should've removed it. EDIT: also really glad to see that you liked the storytelling aspect of the map. That's what I spent the most time on :)
What a great video! You were to the point, like i remember some of my old school teachers. Proper analytical like. Love this guys videos. And NakeyJakey :D
For everyone wondering about why your experience may have been different (IE: Lighting actually working in Lone) the judges got earlier versions of the maps and some features that were unfinished in the 0.9 betas were added to the final map
Annabelle is already in HL2, it's just the weapon Grigori has that the player can't get. There didn't need to be a viewmodel because, well, you weren't meant to have it, but you can still give it to yourself.
I just found out that this video was uploaded just around now with 50 viewers, This is the first ever kliksphilip video I'm early on. I know he won't read this comment but who else agree that even though he doesn't upload much in a week his videos are still quality production to the point we don't need another video this week. I'd like to thank phillip for putting his effort and time into his great videos and in keeping us entertained.
That was a quality video, and your judging final scores didn't feel like they were biased or forced, you make for a great judge and content creator, thank you philip!!
If anything good came from the lack of a HL3 release it's been the really awesome custom HL1/HL2 maps and stories that have been created by fans. Very cool video.
11:37 This actually happens in the real game Half-Life. At the end of Blast Pit, you are walking through a pipe and it breaks and you fall down and take damage (but you land on some medkits). (Of course, there *is* actually a way to avoid taking damage here, but only by doing something that clearly wasn't intended to be done.)
The Half-Life 2 Alpha leak had MUCH better squad control, complete with radio voices of the sqaud as well as a cool effect on the ground while aiming. I don't know why Valve would make it worse...
In Half-Life 2, my favorite missions are the ones with minimal character interaction. I have trouble with Black Mesa East (which is just standing and playing with Dog), Entanglement (which is just turret sections and following Alyx to the teleporter), and Follow Freeman (which is where you assault the Overwatch Nexus and fight the Gunship). I still like the story, but these parts of the game are the most annoying to replay. Point Insertion, We Don’t Go To Ravenholm, and Highway 17 are genius imo. There are still some good story-heavy ones though, like Red Letter Day and Dark Fusion.
People made these within 2 months?? I just felt my heart sank. I barely got a 2 minute 2-room section of my map working within a week, roughly 20+ hours of work. How the hell do people build and script levels so fast?
I'll definitely try out those maps, they look interesting and fun to play. And I agree with you Philip, HL2 is my favourite game as well. Props to the map creators and the host for making something enjoyable about Half-Life in 2018.
Please do another one of these, it definently was a blast in the past for me, and for you to see all these maps. Hope to see another competition again!

What a great video, i loved every bit, and that makes me wanna start mapping HL2 maps even i've never mapped anything before. That's just an awesome work, thank you very much.

Heres an idea for a chopper fight. It would have 3 stages. Stage 1, You are in a very similar chase scene as in the airboat section but instead, you are in a taucannon buggy, going in the tunnels to avoid bursts. Eventually, the road is blockaded, and the chopper fires an APC rocket, flipping your buggy over. Now exposed, you run to the nearest cover: A two-story house with an MG in a 2 story window. Upon going in, you see that the combine and rebels are fighting inside, clear it out with an SMG. Shoot the chopper and combine reinforcements with the two-story MG. The chopper at a certain health, rockets the window, taking a piece out of the house and brakes your mg. The fight ends with the rebel that gave you a rocket launcher in the original campaign gives you it again and you take down the now flaming chopper. How bad of an idea is it? Undoable? Boring? Too long? Tell me.
I think you should remove the rebel bit in stage 2. Instead have a dead rebel who dropped his gun. Then maybe have a basement? And you have to go to the base ment to get a rpg? I think that's better.
I just played Lone, and I was disappointed that the lighting didn't work for you considering the visual presentation was one of the best aspects of these maps.
I really like this video and would love to see more like it. Watching you play and judge these maps was really interesting to listen to and to watch. I know that it's a lot to ask for you to constantly be hosting or be a judge of competitions, but if you could in the future do another one of these videos I would be really glad.

Always enjoyable to see videos about Half-Life 2 from you. You should do a video about the graphical improvements to the Source Engine over time. See how far we have come since Half-Life 2.
Cosmonaut is definitely different now. After you crash, you walk for a bit before the Combine find you and try to take you prisoner. Also a LOT of different stuff too. Boss fight is extremely different too, you gotta back to space with a hard helicopter fight. Edit: You should try it again, it’s much different now.
i feel like people get action movies in their head when they think about making a map but then they actually sit down and have to make it and theyre like "yeeeah dont need to make THIS part of the map uhh guess we can leave THIS out"
RUclips recommended this to me. It was a very interesting video. I love Half Life and I think one day I may even be interested in playing some fan maps. Especially after this.

thanks clicky phil for this video i love hl2 and its customs maps i hope you make more half life mapping related videos in the future it would be great if you judged in another contest
11:18 Something I noticed about Valve is that anytime a level requires you to stack something up they will have crates be the first thing you see but as a back up there are barrels...besides d1_trainstation_01 where they just had a box that duplicated, really lazy honestly. Whenever I come to a situation where I have to stack stuff I intentionally break all the crates just to see if it is possible without them.
@@2kliksphilip I did note the barrels, probably got lost in my mess of a message. Also, I have a question about the subtitles in your videos: I have noticed sometimes they have slight differences than the actual speech. Why is that? My guess is you use the video script for the subtitles (if your videos are scripted) and do not add the differences in speech because they have the same meanings.
Have you played some of the other Villes? My favourite ones are the two Verticalvilles and Chasmville, theres some bad but also some fantastic maps in there.
Everytime you talk about anything mapping related I really want to see you make another CSGO map. Sparity was such an interesting look into the process of making maps!
the lighting bug in Alone map may have happened because you didn't have HDR enabled. current half life 2 version is a bit broken so even in the final game lighting is broken in some maps with HDR disabled.
Something I think people miss about Half-Life's shooting, is that the shooting it's self isn't fun, the environment your shooting in, and the enemies your shooting are. The shooting in Half Life is very utilitarian. It functions fine, but really has no thrills. The fun comes really from dodging bullets, abusing explosive barrels, etc. To use a cooking metaphor, it's a chicken breast of the gun play-verse.
At the end of here again you're supposed to go through those bars at 4:47 at the same time the Combine raids the outpost and the map ends...but i guess they broke that...
Hey, creator of metro here, thanks for judging the challenge, I think your ratings are fair and this video has some good advice. Next time I'll try to make something more original rather than just remaking hl2 again.

Do you plan to return to judging community made CS:GO maps again?
Thanks!
That's true. Would still love to see you back!
@6:48 That sounds like the ponds and wetlands where I live.
the lighting bug in Alone map may have happened because you didn't have HDR enabled. current half life 2 version is a bit broken so even in the final game lighting is broken in some maps with HDR disabled.
A 16-minute 2kliksphilip video? This is a treat!
Lone... I think that map did not separate the void and the map part properly, resulting in the screwed up lightings
The judges version was an older version at the map, it was later updated to be completable :P
