    Still killing it bro. LLAT/MinidiscTV, ha, still getting used to the change. Your reviews are awesome but I think it needs Wing rocking them around the shop, or maybe that's a whole other video. Can we get a shop in the Goldcoast? Back to the vid, cheers.

      @MinidiscAu  6 лет назад +1

      I will pass that on to Wing and he will consider his debut as official headphone model for MinidiscTV. And this is not the first time we've heard from our friends in Queensland bemoaning the lack of audio stores - who knows, maybe one day? :) Thanks for your kind words!

    Thanks for a nice review as always. Could you also make a video directly comparing Focal Clear to ADX5000?

    • @MinidiscAu
      @MinidiscAu  5 лет назад +1

      We probably won’t make this specific comparison, but the ADX5000 is a much brighter, more clinical sounding headphone - Audio Technica’s version of the HD800 with more classic AT upper midrange. The Clear is much richer and fuller in the mid-bass. As an all rounder I prefer the Clear, the ADX5000 does sound lovely with classical. - Lachlan

    If you connect the 909 to an amplifier at the same price range than it may be the end, i personally can say get a nuprime dac 10h (and at least sundara usb cable) - its so musical, and vocals just try it at least for one time you will not be sorry. Greetings.

      I would say TH610 and DCA Stealth are my favourites, yes.

    Is there a Japanese or American headphone you could recommend? (non German or Austrian). My housemate has the Sony MDR1AM2 but these are a little bass heavy unequalized I love my Audiotechnica MSR7b which I got based on your review. They are a little lacking in mids and a little tiring unequalized. Is there a neutral headphone with very soft bass (I don't like bass) with good mids and treble that is Japanese or American you recommend that is for very comfortable for large heads (low clamp force). I'm considering Creative Aurvana SE (Fostex), Denon 2000, OOX ebony. What do you recommend under $500 used that doesn't need amplification? I prefer closed or semi-open like this with a big soundstage. There are so few good comfortable lightweight headphones with low clamp force!!!!!!!! Meze doesn't fold. Koss too easy to break. Grado too open. Focal not portable (except maybe the Listen). Aeon too odd looking. I seriously think I should just get some JBL 650s lol. Something neutral and harman tuned. Am I smoking something? My two favorites are the ones we have, the sony and audiotechnica.

  • @MuhammadKharismawan
    @MuhammadKharismawan 6 лет назад +1

    I'd actually love it if you add the Sony MDR Z1R on this comparison, even tho that one's closed, because each have a unique way on eliminating that resonance
    Also both are bass King's, the TH900 is mentioned a lot when reviewing the Sony's flagship.

  • @MuhammadKharismawan

    Actually, what is your closed headphone nowadays, Lachlan? Is it the TH610 as expected?
    I'm really glad you start to do in depth review like these again, now I really know where I should aim for when I want to jump up from my Denon AH-D600, that is those woody Fostex :)

    • @MinidiscAu

      At home my current favourite closed headphone is the ESW-990H - I don’t actually own any full sized closed headphones at the moment! I would get the TH610 but I’m waiting to demo the Z7 MKII. - Lachlan

    • @JennyDarukat
      @JennyDarukat 6 лет назад +1

      The 610 is great if you like a pronounced and textured bass, but don't want to go with a V shape and shouty headphone.
      If you're willing to do some work on it, you could also get an X00 and modify it a little (different pads, damping in the cups) - they're really easy to give your own spin to.

    • @chuckseeger7743
      @chuckseeger7743 5 лет назад

      Jenny Darukat can you please Recommend pads for fostex tr-x00 thanks

    • @JennyDarukat
      @JennyDarukat 5 лет назад +1

      @@chuckseeger7743 If you swap pads, you will inevitably lose bass, impact and attack because no other pads come with the sown-in attenuation ring that balances the stock sound (TH-900 pads don't have it either, which hurts greatly). I use Dekoni's TH-900 style round sheepskin pads, with a 3d printed backing plate that I put inbetween the pads and the pad mounting ring - that improves the seal and fixes the lack in air pressure and increase in treble reflection you usually find when padswapping.
      In other words: try to get an insert that'll fill the space between pads and chassis so that the air pressure doesn't diminish and you maintain a clear funnel for the sound towards the ear part of the pad. If you do that, the Dekoni 900 pad is great - I'd say everything being factored in, my mod (although it includes custom cups and damping) brings the headphone to another level from stock.
      Try it, and let me know what you think. Again, make sure the pad insert matches the size of the pad hole and the driver funnel.

    i've heard these are quite amp sensitive

    • @orionxavier6957
      @orionxavier6957 4 года назад

      I've heard they sound better on portable amps, I think because of the differences in output impedance between portable amps and desktop amps? I've also heard they sound good on the Topping A90 amp which is basically the same performance of the Benchmark HP4A amp, but at a fraction of the cost (and size).

    Not intending to offend, as I'm aware you have your own channel, but why is a Minidisc YT channel a thing? Like i get Sweetwater and others do it, but no one watches them expecting an honest review, more a showcase of the products features if anything. In fairness you're covering a flagship set here so that's quite a safe choice, but how am I to take anything you say to not be even a little bit inspired by the want to sell them to me?

    • @MinidiscAu
      @MinidiscAu  3 года назад

      That's a very fair question. We make every effort to provide our honest opinion, and if you have a look at the videos we have made, I think you will find that they are fair in their criticisms.
      Of course we acknowledge (and try to be transparent about) the fact that we are a retail store. At the end of the day we want to sell product. But we do want to sell the right product to the right customer. We see the videos as an extension of our in-store recommendations - we want people to go home with a headphone they love.
      We are always happy when they come back for more recommendations on the back of our good advice. As both an online and brick and mortar business, this kind of personal relationship with our customers is important. You can check our online reviews of the store for a confirmation of this!
      Long term, we think this is the right way to go, rather than trying to hype every product we sell.

    You don't like Fostex TH-900 that much? Wow. Overpowering bass? False. Raw and agressive treble? False again. What are you babbling about? They are the warmest, most musical headphones ever made. This nonsense is something you've read on forums on Headfi and Innerfidelity. Total BS. They are the best closed headphones in the world. If you want better (open) headphones, go for STAX Lambda 700MKII (paired with SRM-D50). Not this other crap he suggests.

      I'd love that to be true... well mastered music yes but masters with coloration a little boosted bass pop... they can be angry. They just are not for everything.

      I love them though th900 is great and 98/100 songs I listen to won't make them sound bad. Yet you can't just say they are perfect. They have been designed with trade offs in mind to be 10/10 headphone 9/10 times.
