Fun Fact: The sap from this tree contains Urushiol (thus the name Urushi Lacquer) which is also the chemical in Poison Oak and Ivy that makes you itch. The fact that people put on protective gear and work with this substance just to get a finish unobtainable any other way is mind-blowing.
The dedication towards the detail to get the Fostex earcups alone are worth half the asking price of the TH900. After trying one, I could've sworn I had the urge to steal it after 30 minutes of use. The sound is just breathtaking and absolutely wonderful.
this is the type of vid my dad (r.i.p.) would have enjoyed the hell out of. He loved watching anything involving the creation of things and all the hard work that went into it.
I have the limited Sapphire Blue model and they are truly a work of art. Handmade Japanese quality and attention to detail. Well worth the investment and they know it.
Please educate yourself . Developed over the last 7,000 years, urushi or Japanese lacquer is made with toxic sap, powdered metals, bits of shell, and months or years of patient labor. www.getty.edu/art/collection/video/134991/bone-flesh-skin:-the-making-of-japanese-lacquer/
Kael If you want a brighter sound, yes. If not, then no. They're on about the same level as far as technical ability goes, but D7000's have more a sub-bassy kind of sound with everything above that smooth and refined, while TH600 are more traditionally neutral and even slightly bright. Still got a lot of bass, but not as much as D7000. The rest of the headphone is pretty much identical.
+Kael go to Build a Graph and compare the 50 Hz Square Wave Response. The TH900's square wave looks incredible. You get some statistically clean sounding bass here.
I came here because I was thinking about sanding the red off and painting it a different color... Now I feel like a horrible person, I'm so sorry ;'( All of the sudden I love red 🍻🤣
Musiccalgary The community talk has more often been about Stax SR009, Audeze LCD3, Fostex TH900, HiFiMan HE-6 or Sennheiser HD800 being the top heaphones, with some commenting that Grados tend to be too 'forward'.
The audiophile community generally seem to think that this pair of headphones are worth the price for its sound quality. Frequently thought of as one of the top closed back headphones being produced today. I'd like to try the TH900 soon.
I know a little about Grado. I don't think it is fair to dismiss headphones simply because they are expensive and choose to market their lacquering technique. Perhaps they think the sound quality will do all the talking. There are people, for example the moon audio CEO, who think Grado is more suited to rock, while other headphones with more flat response are better suited for the reference role. I have not been able to find direct comparisons between the Fostex TH900 and the Grado GS1000 or PS1000. Top of the line headphones comparisons in a few review sites do not even mention the Grado flagship. I'm looking for headphones to try out so I've been reading up a bit
I hope those people are paid reasonably for this, as it is obviously extremely tedious work. If it were done like this in the US the cost of the headphones would probably be closer to $3000 because of our higher labor costs.
They aren't really all that good looking to tell you the truth. sound quality better be amazing. My AKG Q701 sound great and look great and relatively affordable, only complaint is placement of cable, its too low and bumps into my shoulder when i turn my head to crack my neck lol.
Am I the only one pissed off about stupid comments by people who can't possibly understand what these headphones do and why they cost as much as they do? Nothing like ignorant people who like to show how stupid they are by talking about things they know absolutely nothing about and have absolutely no experience with.
zeos wasn't kidding..this is dope
This is not manufacturing anymore, this is art.
VeryNormal SimplePerson I don't care if these are any good, which I'm sure they are nothing short of amazing, I'm sold by this video alone.
Total opposite of Hifiman

I'm really happy to hear no narration at all. Just the craftsmanship
This is so satisfying to watch, and they looks gorgeous too, let me see the price so I can cogit... WOOOOO SHIEEEET
The dedication towards the detail to get the Fostex earcups alone are worth half the asking price of the TH900. After trying one, I could've sworn I had the urge to steal it after 30 minutes of use. The sound is just breathtaking and absolutely wonderful.
That was very calming to watch. I love that such an old art form is being used still to this day and for such a modern product.
Agreed.
This is live action earsex tape.
Thank you based Japan for your all hardworking effort in everything you do in this rotten...
...yet beautiful world!
Wew, didn't expect to find you here. Hi!
Zeos sent me here.
+IriaChan same
ok and?
Civil There's no follow up to that sentence; it contains all the information it was meant to convey.
but its pointless and stupid, it means nothing.
who cares who sent you here?
Meanwhile beats...
+genesis777 That was the joke.
I seriously let out about 6 little gasps of joy and amazement whilst watching this.
I love watching these videos showcasing the details and complexities that are involved in the process of making a product.
Wow, that's why japanese products are so great. A M A Z I N G!
I'm really glad I own Fostex cans now...makes me glad to see the company puts so much time and care into its craft!

Love seeing artisans at work.
Z Reviews brought me here!
Fostex represent! Have a pair of TH-X00s and would love to try these!
I don't know how great they sound (I suppose they do), but now I want them!
This was a thing of beauty. I really appreciated watch that, but I wish there were a paired video that showcase the electronic components.
This is to a grown man what Sesame Street's Candy Factory videos is to a kid!
Beautiful.
I have the TH610. Beautiful cups.
a really beautiful headphone, I never had the pleasure of listening.
saving saving !
une oeuvre d'art tout simplement ! finition irréprochable pour un casque trop beau à voir
Japanese work ethic is always beautiful
Amazing. Thank you to your great attention to detail. And wonderful video showcasing it.
Wow, It's like to watch a good Anime... Can't explain.
Thank you for using great craftsmanship:)
I don't get it. When does the red stuff we see at the beginning come into play???
Japan the most amazing country with the most amazing people.
Well that was wonderful.

Ummm... Can someone plz explain what they used the tree sap he harvested in the beginning for??
it was used for paint in the airbrush that made it red
Aden Sargeant oh ok, thanks :)
Musiccalgary lol
Its all for show... what a bunch of bullshit...

This should be the world's most satisfying video.
A video just for the cups?
The rest is too boring or complex for your incredible human intelligence...
I have some Denon AH-D7000s. Worth trading up?

+derbigpr500 and now compared to the X00's? Are they as technically good?
impressive!
wow。that is why it take that price.
Awesome.
...But does it sound good?
What was the tree sap for?
God fucking dammit.
Next time I need to watch a relaxing video, it will be this one
you fuckin rule japan. thumbs up
kwapedog Headphones Made by Ninja's !!
Nice!
Yo that's so cool Zeos sent me
Now this is proper craftsmanship folks! So I'll look the other way that they are partly made from the blood of trees.
That's very deep... thanks for the reminder - I'm on my way to donate my own to the Red Cross immediately.
If someone narrated, that would be great.
+detonator6 hehe idk. This is just the Japanese style. Actions speak louder than words ;)
1:45 sounds like a riff from a Metal song. O.o
you listen to shitty metal then
so if i scratch the lettering it would come right off?
If you scratch the lettering you will suffer in another life
I'm sure they put a protective coat on...
Zakd That's what I was wondering. inlays are better than something applied on top
logos2600 They most likely put clear coat over it
Only if you use a toothpick...
i prefer the look at 3:44
Yeah, who would want a PMS-looking HP when a moldy variation is possible >)
amazing procedure
I came here because I was thinking about sanding the red off and painting it a different color... Now I feel like a horrible person, I'm so sorry ;'(
All of the sudden I love red 🍻🤣
Awesome result. No wonder why these are so expensive.
Nice
Sigh, you win Fostex.
I am visually aroused.
Wow.
Excessive.. what about the sound quality?
Yeah that would suck if they still sounded crap.
for $2000 it better be nothing short of phenomenal.

Anyone else came here from Snazzy Labs or Quinn Nelson? :P
Waiting for the Ebony's to sale again and now I have a better appreciation. Thanks Z and Fostex!
Zeos!!
Where's the 'R' big shot?
It's Z e R o S !!!
03:26 what is this?
This would be a great ASMR, if it weren't for the jarring sound of the machines during certain portions of the video.
I hope those people are paid reasonably for this, as it is obviously extremely tedious work. If it were done like this in the US the cost of the headphones would probably be closer to $3000 because of our higher labor costs.
unreal.
💎
What about the rest of the headphone?
3:26-3:40 favorite part
very cool but missing the tech part. craftsmanship seems excellent but what about component and audio quality?
ok... but why?
horrryyyyyy shiiiieeeeett, those details tho.. Z brought me here btw

Z reviews!

But how much do they get payed?
$20,000
Amazing.
ok ill pay 1300$ just for the craftsmanship!
They aren't really all that good looking to tell you the truth. sound quality better be amazing.
My AKG Q701 sound great and look great and relatively affordable, only complaint is placement of cable, its too low and bumps into my shoulder when i turn my head to crack my neck lol.
AKGs are made like toys in comparison. I've had the K702 & K601.
ron nguyen I have Q701's, old K701's from 2007 and K612's, and I agree, they're toys in comparison to higher end headphones in terms of build quality.
Am I the only one pissed off about stupid comments by people who can't possibly understand what these headphones do and why they cost as much as they do? Nothing like ignorant people who like to show how stupid they are by talking about things they know absolutely nothing about and have absolutely no experience with.
+derbigpr500 Yes, because there's absolutely no reason to feel anything for stupid people.
for that price they better make tasty sandwiches for me whenever I demand it.
+disklosr Did you not see the craftsmanship that went into this?
I WAS EXPECTING SOME TECH NOT GLITTER PAINTING
kay alot of work goes into the cups and the painting of these cups...
so...why?
Because why not?
Because Fostex values quality.
何時か入手してやる…。
Meanwhile in China...
+Dr. Zoidberg .......10 more workers just jumped off the building.
Like Zeos says, there's something about wood.....that gives me wood. This is headphone porn at its finest.
They should not have put the fostex logo
