Dear Neeman tools i wanted to thank you and your whole team for inspiring me and unleashing a new wave of life into my own life whilst returning from two tours of afghanistan i battled through being wounded in armed conflict and also battling with depression i so badly needed something to keep my mind occupied although my years before the military i was an engineering i never knew of the delights of doing it as a hobby you have not only helped me but others around me thank you god bless jon
I for one would never underestimate the importance of a good hand-axe/hatchet when in the wilderness. Something so many ppl view as a household implement has saved my ass on more than one occasion. That thing is a beauty! Sending love from the bayous of Louisiana! Love the music too
The process is beyond beauty; this craftsmanship is spiritual. I must come back to this every three months or so, and I am both enamored to see the product of true craft and saddened I have none. .. In another time..
After 5 years since I came across to this video, I've found it again. The first time I watched it, I did not know what career to study and by the end I was convinced to study Industrial design (I don't know why I linked design whit this video at that time) and now five years later Im at one year of finishing my career. So thanks a lot!
For the crew of Neeman Tools: I work with production of advertising films and I am a connoisseur of cutlery. Honestly, the series "The Birth of a Tool" are the best movies I saw on the topic. Besides adding value to the art of ancient technique, adds value to the end product Neeman Tools. Very inspiring!
Just gives me another reason to watch it again. I think the music works well. I love when you pull the blade back from polishing it and it edge looks like it's encased in glass. What you do is an art form of functional beauty.
Your videos introduced me to foreign fields!!! Years later and I still remember the first time listening to this! It's almost like I get transported to a beautiful snowtop ped alpine haven.
Exceptionally well done in every respect. It restores my faith in humanity that such skills are not entirely lost among us, that the true craftsmanship of my youth still exists, and especially that such adept young people of a generation or more behind mine are the master practitioners of the fine old arts, and willing to share their skills with others. Carry on smartly. Today's culture is starved for true steersmen, the 'real' instead of 'virtual', for quality instead of 'good-enough', and for the tangible touch of human hands, minds and hearts, rather than the cold, valueless, disposability of machines.
I seen this video when you first uploaded it and it inspired me to chase my dreams and to reclaim a heritage lost in my family for two generations if it hadn’t been lost I would be a 7th generation blacksmith thank you and keep banging that hammer
John I am from mexico and I must said that I love your work, Its beautiful, you make art my friend, and I admire you for that, applause from my part, regards
You are truly an inspiration, this video captures your life so well, it makes you feel as if you are there as the tool is being created. Great choice in music, it really sets the vibe.
Maybe I'm alone in this, but I actually find that most of the beauty of this film lies within the artisan craft itself. I'm unabashedly fascinated by their work. I'm definitely alone on this one, but I also feel that the Foreign Fields track is more fitting than the Bon Iver track. I love how the first 4 minutes are quieter and more contemplative, allowing for the sounds of the work to take over. The build happens at the perfect time when the tool comes together. I don't know, I sure liked it.
The beauty of handmade work is unable to be compared to anything! I've had the fortunate luck in my life to buy a few items of such quality. They're so nice I'd almost dare not use them, but that'd be like having wings and not ever using them to fly!!
Yes it is. It was not possible to get a copyright licence for Bon Iver song "Holocene". So thanks to the "Foreign Fields" for their good will to allow us to licence their song.
Just beautiful to watch......You sir are a true Artisan. I'm personally blown away by all the talent you showed in this video, it is truly impressive to say the least. Between the video and the music I found myself so mellow and at the same time excited to see the finished product....WOW is all I can say !
Such skill! I had to laugh when you used a bandsaw to shape the handle, but was very pleased to see a drawknife being used to such great effect. Well done sir!

FINALLY somebody who makes an axe handle with the grain oriented in the proper direction!! Beautiful piece of work. Now I want to make one myself.

I just came back after a handful of years and realized this was my inspiration to start a small woodshop! 4 years strong at realizing my dream.
The best video of a kind! Tears on my eyes .... it's the best gift ever! Made by own hands!

That is an exceptionally beautiful knife!
Top quality video. Thanks. Loved it.
I could watch the whole video without the music and just be swept away by the natural sounds alone.
I agree. The Music deducted a little from the video

This video only shows a tiny fraction of the time that goes into that masterpiece of an ax. This is the result of taking pride in your craft!
