  • My favorite fountain pen, the Namiki Falcon. You can find it here: amzn.to/3mWxbmW
    The ink is Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo, which can be found here: amzn.to/36cmgyV
    I had this modified by John Mottishaw. He ground the nib extra fine and added flex to it (the Spencerian customization).
    Other inks used: Iroshizuku Yama Budo, Noodler's Black, Noodler's Apache Sunset
    Paper: Bristol board, Leuchtturm1917 dot grid notebook
    Camera: Sony DSC-HX9V

    Here are some tips: The key is to use as little pressure when writing as possible except on the down strokes. Constant use will make you a master in a year or two. If you use other pens often it is hard to get used to it. Consistency is better than speed at first. Write slowly if you have to, but don't obsess about perfection. Always go a little faster than you are comfortable with so the strokes look more natural and less shaky. Again, a light grip and light pressure are key.

    Thanks for the kind words! I would recommend starting with a Lamy Safari Extra Fine with a cartridge converter. They are high quality and fun to use for a cheap price.
    I learned calligraphy by copying paragraphs from my favorite books as I read them. Some of the fonts are my own style, but all are based on Spencerian Script. Copy those letters and soon you will develop your own style.

      Chibi Lychee one thing is that it sped up, he may have made it seem easier than it looks even though it took way longer than it looks, it probably took him a fairly long to slowly perfect each word and every angle, he may have even redone a few of his words, but the time in which he would of originally taken to do this is why he sped it up

    • @Drad_
      @Drad_ 6 лет назад +14

      You do realise that with the proper supplies and lots and lots of practice anyone (including you!) can achieve this level of penmanship right? He wasn't born with these skills you know. Also a normal falcon doesn't write like that, this one is modified. The above comment is also right in the fact that he probbably used some camera tricks to add a bit more class to the video.

    • @natarrlie
      @natarrlie 4 года назад +1

      @@Drad_ sorry to add to a dead chain but, what's different about this falcon? I'm very new to fountain pens I only got a muji pen like a week ago

    • @milkbrother0322
      @milkbrother0322 4 года назад +1

      @@natarrlie the nib of the Falcon in this video is customised, as stated in the video description. It has been grounded. Means they 'shaved off' a portion of nib's tip to attain a different one. And stock Falcon nibs, although they are available in 'soft' EF or 'soft' F, aren't really a flex nib.

    • @jikerwa
      @jikerwa 3 года назад +1

      Jan Ephraim Vallente although they aren’t flex, my EF can get to 1.2 mm with some pressure, anymore could damage the nib though.

    Thanks. Actually, I only have four fountain pens at the moment: this Namiki Falcon, a Nakaya Naka-ai, a Lamy CP1, and a stub Pelican that I was using in that one shot. Four is nothing by most pen enthusiast's standards, but it means I know each nib by heart. The paper is Bristol Board. I only use it because it films well-it's very hard, so the ink stays wet longer and it makes louder noises for the microphone. Otherwise, it's not really ideal for writing.

    When going to my college I found out from someone that one of the teachers knew Calligraphy and at some point I seemed to get it into my head they taught that as a class at my college. I was so bumbed when I found out they didn't have it. I think at this point the closest I could get is ordering a book online on how to learn Calligraphy. Would have been a lot nicer to have a class where you learn how to do that. I would have actually enjoyed that immensely.

    These pen vids take a lot longer than people realize. Two days of shooting, and two more of editing. Setting up the shots was the hardest part. For most, the camera was upside-down and right above the pen and I would have to press my face to the table to see what I was writing. I don't do videos for a living either, so it's difficult to make these anyway. Flushing the pens was the easy part; I would do the light colors first, and after emptying, fill them w/ progressively darker colors. Cheers

    On second thought, its not the best but I do love it the most. lol
    I was gifted a pen not that long ago, since then I been wasting paper left and right. I never
    knew how therapeutic it can be. Just writing and exploring new ways... and now Im just trying to figure out which one I should get for myself.
    If anyone has a good suggestion between 150-250$ I would really appreciate it! Im still new to it... so many other videos to watch. I LOVE THIS SO FAR!!
    I usually do graphic design and fonts are pretty much my second hand to me. But I never, ever took the time to realize what penmanship was truly like, for us its just look and pay for said font and apply (maybe modify in illustrator if needed)....nothing like this.. so much skill..
    I admire all of you and hopefully I can get better. Tips welcome. (:

    I haven't ever tried this calligraphy with fountain pen. But, just love to see and hear the sound and lettering in sync, it's pure fun

      Actually it’s not the paper, it’s the ink, I saw it on Facebook.... it’s called floating ink

      All ink on a fountain pen would look like that, they're using the way the light shines to make it look like that

    this video is …maybe the first asmr video in my life.
    many years ago, when I was a little boy, I found a video titled "the most beautiful writing English " or something like that, I watched the full video and felt so sleepy in the end
    years later I fell in love with asmr , I have watched so many asmr videos, but I think I can't forget this one forever

      I cannot believe how similar my experience is to yours! I used to watch this video over and over on youtube when I was younger (though, now that I think about it, it was probably a pirated version of it) and it's made me so happy to rediscover this video years after I had given up looking for it. The calligraphy, penmanship and asmr are just as good as I remember.

      ***** Cursive != Calligraphy

    • @aeneasaquinas
      @aeneasaquinas 10 лет назад +3

      Most schools, in the United States at least, teach cursive. Most people do not use it as it takes time, and many people simply do not write clearly, and cursive would only amplify that.

    • @WaltPark
      @WaltPark 10 лет назад

      I think most schools used to. Today, children are learning typing shortly after learning to print instead of learning cursive, in order to interface with computers sooner.

      Walt Park We were taught to write in cursive in elementary... But as we got into high school and college, most teachers/professors would not accept papers written in cursive. I remember my high school teachers telling me not to write in cursive because it was harder for them to read.
      We were taught cursive, then told not to use it... So who could really blame us lol..
