Just got these, love the seismic bass and surprising airiness compared to other closed backs. What really confounds me is why they dipped the mids, that's where vocals and most instruments dwell. I would have preferred if it had a W instead of a U frequency range.
I'm going from the thx00 to these th900. Can't wait to try these for myself! Great review by the way, I think you did a good job describing the sound by contrasting them between different songs.
This is an honest review of the headphones, just purchased mine, was very much impressed with the bass! But you were right to mention that the mids are “scooped”, it is so, especially in the low midrange. It’s ok for electronic music genres though, again, I agree. I’m a techno head myself so I was particularly looking for the deep and quick bass. Great job you did on this review, keep up the good work! Thumbs up!
Are they really closed back, though? I’ve read that they cheat on this and there is substantial leakage because of a gap between the ear cup and where the ear pad sits, making them effectively semi-open.
According to the Fostex website, they are fully closed. Although, I'll listen again with someone around to let me know if they leak. I did notice they weren't as sound isolating as other headphones. But let me check to see if the headphones leak sound out.
@@trellusg Mine certainly aren't fully closed BUT I did replace the ear cups with some much deeper memory foam and leather units so perhaps that's my mine leak quite a bit.
Asking for trouble with all that cable talk, lol. I have a pair of the mkI and love them. I have read complaints about the treble before, but it has never bothered me.
lol! I know ;) Good, I'm glad you like the mk 1! I've never had a chance to hear them before. But if it works for the music you're listening to, then that's awesome!!
My Son bought these cans and I honestly thought he was off his trolley he had them delivered to me as he was away with the Army on training so I tried them and I WAS BLOWN AWAY by these the sound stage is fenominal and your review helped me deside ti buy them so thanks very much, great presentaion
Hey Steph! great review as always. Both are very nice but I like kinda like that blue one more. They seem very well made and I like the idea of the soundstage is open to a variety of music.
Purchased these blind, never having demo them. I have to say I am blown away!! Perefect for my genre of music of rock/metal. Awesome authority and kicks like a mule to really rock out with. Not to mention they're awesome for gaming! The impact down low with that soundstage and pin point accuracy is incredible. Literally a jack of all trade except if you're treble sensitive. These headphones can do it all lol.
Thanks for watching! Subscribe for more, and give us a thumbs up if you liked the video :)

I completely forgot to ask, by any chance have you heard any of the tx00 models? If so, how do these compare.

Pretty sure Fostex refers to them as semi closed.
formerviking thanks yes just not purely closed 😅

Absolutely! My pleasure! So glad you liked them~!
i have the mk1 th900, i think it delivers great amount of clarity and micro details. how does it compare with the mk1 in term of sounds?
I'm honestly not sure! I've never had a chance to hear the mk1. Any one reading this comment get a chance to try both?
Th900mk1 and mk2 have identical tuning and driver's. Only difference is the removable cable.

Heya, Jeff! Thanks! Yeah right? I love the openness of it!
What about Heavy Metal ?!
