Literally Build Your Dream. Well done Paul. Not easy to navigate around a recalcitrant plastic housing while taking a video. Looks like the two lugs on either side of the camera still need to be fully housed into the locating holes
I have half a mind to just break that cover you struggled with and then designing and 3D printing one that just looks better. Such an ugly, unshapely piece of plastic in an otherwise beautiful interior! Oh, and thanks for documenting the process of installing the camera, it'll come in handy when I get my own Seal!
I believe in Europe the camera isn't supplied due to GDPR regulations. I have seen a similar video of a lad in the UK install one on the Atto 3. It seemed like the Atto didn't have the cable already routed from the factory which he had to route himself. Delighted to see the seal has all that in place.
There is no restriction for dashcams in general in the EU so I don’t think that GDPR is the reason. Without knowing the exact reason, I suspect that it is more to do with trade restrictions between the EU and China.
This was really useful to know as not aware the camera was removed (local dealer here in U.K not aware either!) Subsequently purchased camera from Ali Express before my car arrives in March
Thanks very much, very easy, dont know if i should be telling anyone this but i used a sharp kitchen knife to slide the tip under the cover and prise/ twist off i think people would be worried about breaking it but it does pop off easily its pretty flexible. Thanks again for the Video.
I ordered that camera and installed it , inserted the 64GByte micro-sd card that came with it but after restarting car, it still did NOT show the camera. But after a reset (as per your video clip) the camera worked fine. (My Seal is already updated to Version 1.1 a couple of days ago.)
I am impressed by the work you put into your videos and the informations. Was just in contact with a german BYD dealer asking if the car had a dash cam or a function like sentry mode to use and they denied both. Then i had the chance to talk with another BYD sales/spokes person. She said she is in direct contact with the BYD Group. Can not remember the exact name how they call themself in EU. And she denied it as well. So not only in Thailand they does not have this camera. Now i wonder if u can selection different kind of quality options and if you can let the car record in some sort of parking mode or sentry mode?
Hi, thank you for your time which is so valuable to prospective Seal owners, delivery due in January 2024. You mentioned that the lens was slightly off-centre with your first attempt. Could you describe the correct orientation of the camera please? That is, the cable connector (or other item) should be closer to the left and right when you are facing forward.
The lens is not centered, so to orientate the camera correctly the lens must be clearly visible in the hole in housing. I originally had the camera upside down and only half the lens was visible through the hole and video would be half obscured by the plastic housing. If you need any more clarification, I will need to remove housing and check

Hi, thanks for your video, can i please ask if you can provide a part number, this part is out of stock on the site you provided, and I'm not sure it ships to Australia. Also can you please provide a link to the kit you got?
Sorry I don’t have the box anymore and my order didn’t quote a part number, just that it was the camera for Atto 3 and the Seal. You could search on AliExpress for dashcameras for those models. I did talk to Tom from ludicrous feed and he has bought one in Australia, maybe he will have a video on it soon.
i wonder why it wasn't included. Doesn't seem that hard to unclip those bits and have it half on while installing. Did it all click back in easy enough, also can you show where you bought it from?
There was quite a bit messing around off-camera. The click back was much easier. Are you based in Thailand? Not sure the link will show, but here goes s.lazada.co.th/s.lXJcz
@@EcoHouseThailand Excellent video, didn't even know this was an option! My only hesitation with buying the camera (it's in my cart!) is removing the housing myself as I worry I might snap something - or is that not really a concern? Any specific tips or steps to do this - or am I making it more complicated than it is?
@@kaparmar Definitely buy a trim removal kit like I bought, I tried and it impossible without it. Sit in the passenger seat and attack the lower left corner. Here in Thailand we didn’t know the exact spec until people started to receive the car. Probably have to wait the for the Australian models to land. Although BYD will probably ship similar cars to all RHD markets, the local distributors may make changes
BYD in Dandenong Vic tell me that the dashcam will be included. I have seen others report (from Australia) that they've been told otherwise. Going to be a wait and see I think.
is dash camera prohibited in thailand? are automakers banned from providing one on stock cars? all byd models in china come with this camera installed out of factory. it is bizare they took the trouble taking it out.
What is the picture quality like? It would be nice to have the integration this camera can provide, but I expect a standalone dashcam could provide clearer images of licence plates and better low-light performance.

I think the BYD camera is pretty basic really. I plan to supplement it with a after market multi camera system with sentry mode.
The story I got from my local BYD team in Brisbane is that the dash cam was not installed after complaints about privacy in Europe.
This doesnt make sense, have it as a "optional extra" then.
It is optional. You can easily buy it online if you want it.
SD has to be purchased separately. Can’t remember what the maximum capacity is - been a while since I purchased it.

Much easier to reattach, just firm pressure all round. No fear of breaking a clip like trying to get it off.

Most mid to high end car sold in China are equipped with a built in dash camera

I have posted it twice already in the comments to the video, if you can’t find it let me know
You have shadows in the picture from the dashcam. The camera needs to be fully inserted, so the shadows disappears.
