@@LudicrousFeed Thanks a lot for the video, I saw the rain sensor for wiper next to it which is missing in ATTO 3, could you please make a video of getting that part installing it and making it work. Appreciate a lot for your work.
Thank you, this video was extremely useful and made the task quite straight forward. A few tips after doing this on the 2024/03 model: 1) When undoing the case clips only insert the pry tool about 1 mm and it will only require gentle force to open each of the 3 passenger side clips. (If you go in too far you will be prying against the main body that is glued to the windscreen, not just the case). After undoing the passenger side clips you should be able to slide the case over slightly to undo the drivers side (without the need for further prying). 2) There is a small plastic plug in the mounting hole for the camera (2024/03 model) - push it out from the inside toward the windscreen. 3) There is no need to fully remove the case, you can work in the small space if you use this video to guide what you are looking for - find the cable and unwrap the piece of tape that holds it in the folded back position. (This step is a little fiddly in the tight space, but looks easier than disassembling and reassembling the case.) 4) When inserting the camera orientate it with the protruding tab in the top-left - it will slide easily into place if you provide some gentle upward pressure against the upper locking tab in the housing. (The blue plug at the end of the cable then slides easily into the back of the camera with the large socket at the top and the pair of smaller female sockets at the bottom). 5) Clip the case back on starting with the clips furthest from the windscreen and then work forwards (doing the driver- and passenger-side clips together in pairs).
Just read this, after installing it today. Didn't notice rubber plug until later, which slowed me down - push it from inside to out, as inside part smaller. Can easily cut plastic and tape with scissors.
Thanks for the video. When I installed mine I accidentally bumped the rear vision mirror making it fall off (it is designed to come off easily in the case of an accident). After unplugging the connector for the mirror dimming function the mirror and black cover could be removed completely. This made access to the video/power cable and installation of the camera a lot easier. The mirror is held in place by 3 claws that grip onto a 6 sided nut that has 3 short sides and 3 longer sides. When the mirror is installed the claws grip onto the 3 shorter sides (these sides are further away from the centre of the nut than the 3 longer sides). To reinstall the mirror place it so the claws are around the longer sides (60 degrees from the final position) then turn to bring it into the final position.
Watched this video last night as a guide and got into the car this morning to have a go. Went flawlessly and was installed along with my Toll tag in about 30 minutes. One point I want to add is that I saw you had trouble getting the plastic cover over the silver heat sinked module on the driver's side of the mirror. If you just tilt the mirror towards the passenger side it will give alot of room and the cover will come off and go back on with no issues. Thanks for the video

@@LudicrousFeed Glad you posted this. In Thailand it's the same story with the Sealion 7..but you can purchase one through the dealer and have it installed pre-delivery. I suspect it's a government regulation around concerns imagery will transmitted back to the BYD mother ship (i.e. Chinese gov).
Hi Tom - did the same job on the Dolphin a couple of weeks back. The camera off of Alibaba has a really nice quality picture and as you showed is pretty easy to install. Just one strange thing when I went to BYD in Perth for a Seal test drive I mentioned I had installed the dash cam in the Dolphin and the sales person stated I should not have done this myself as it can invalidate the warranty on the car. He said that doing this incorrectly can send the speed reading camera in the same housing out of calibration. When I showed him that you can do a recalibration via the secret admin menu on BYDs he sort of reluctantly agreed that it should be ok - we even joked about the fact that the recalibration software has a Chinese language label and I jokingly said I spoke Chinese fluently (which I don’t) Once I showed him how to do the recalibration he just sort of shrugged and reminded me again that I should have got BYD to fit it for me !
I didn’t see any issues with the existing traffic sign camera even without the recalibration - and thank you as always for doing these excellent videos 👍
Under Australian law you can't invalidate your warranty adding things to a car. The only exception is if something went wrong directly attributable to your installation/modification.eg, if you break the plastic housing or accidentally disconnect the windscreen heater that's on you.
I followed the video to install the dash cam, instructions are very easy to follow. And I’m happy with the results. I didn’t remove the whole casing as I couldn’t unclip the smaller piece and was too afraid of breaking it. There was also a round cap which seals the camera hole that I didn’t see, because I didn’t the whole housing I guess. Ended up wasting a bit of time trying to push the camera in. Otherwise all good and straightforward enough.
EXCELLENT video! Easy to follow and well described! Please ask your wife to hold the camera more often when needed - it makes everything even better👍 Thank you for a job well done🤗
Thanks for the video, got it installed without much drama. One more tip, make sure you have the car/air conditioning switched on while you are installing it from passenger seat. If you don't, it will set off an alarm thinking a child/pet is in the car.
Fabulous video. I used your link and got the OEM dashcam. Then followed the instructions......until. getting the last mirror surround piece in. I just couldn't get it in with the main section loose. I ended up securing the main section then brute forcing the final smaller section in. Luckily it worked without any noticeable clips broken off. I don't ever want to take it apart again to find out 😅
Only thing I would suggest to do is to plug the dashcam in before installation into the housing to make sure the camera isn't faulty. Would be a lot of hardship to get it out of it was dead on arrival.

My blackvue was useless at that, but newer dash cams from companies like viofo, 70mai and vantrue can do it. Also, does it have parking mode? Thanks

You could probably squeeze the legs and push it through, but i couldnt see how it was held in place and Im not going to remove the camera anyway so am throwing it out... Whats your take.
@@LudicrousFeed Thanks for sharing the video, great content and very informative. Mate, have to say, I just love the detail and care you take to deliver it well. Rapid fire of my findings for anyone on the hunt for an EV journey: - I found the Tesla LR was a bit course on freeways I tried, but the Model 3 Performance was great. Seal though had the best NVH and most comfortable ride for me. - Seal cabin is just better, heads up display, extra screen where it should be, I have no doubt Tesla will fold and include at least a HUD next year. - Tesla's steering wheel, feels like it will last longer. I dont like its design, but the Seal's one is so plush, Im curious to see durability. - Don't know why Seal doesnt have dashcam included? Poor effort (but this video helps with that) - I really think the Seal infotainment is more than enough and does a great job overall. - I tested the performance (Seal) in both dry and wet (different days).. I could not believe the pace the seal could build in the wet.. any ICE car I have owned that could crack 4s to a 100kmh, would be spinning like crazy, even the WRX's I have had. Incredible for a 2.2t car. - The brakes! The Seal performance had the best brakes of the 3 - and if you see the pull up times, the car pulls up shorter despite being 349kgs heavier.. which is just a great accomplishment. I really think the comment at the end of your video sums it up perfectly... my take is that Seal is trying to give you the best drivers car for the money, where the Tesla is focused on using software to transport you. The "dream" of proper hands free driving just isn't there yet.. and I don't see it coming for some time and probably not on these models, so for this reason, and for this generation, Seal is the winner for me. If however you are looking at brute force with the best seats and don't care about too much else (this would be
at approx 4mins into your video it shows the aperture in the casing where the lens of the camera will go thru so as to have a full view of what's ahead. I don't know if I should rip it off as I don't want to damage any part of the car. Any suggestions.

Great video thanks, can anyone confirm this still works with the latest update to software. I installed the camera on the weekend and its not detected. Thanks in advance.
This dashcam works ok for me up to the time of this post (Aug 2024) to V1.2.1 2403 - Maybe try rebooting the car? ie. hold onto the power button (volume control) for up to 10 seconds
Hmm … and I assume you’ve tried the power/volume button hold down for 10 seconds? If you are confident the connection/wiring is correct then you may need to contact the supplier
how clear is the camera when recording during driving. can it read plates? thinking of incase you are hit, can it see and easily record the plate, or is it unclear? Also, is there factory rear camera ?
Question. If you deselect "display driving info on screen" does it only stop displaying speed? Or all other info and just show the footage? Some may ask why? Well unless you're in a very serious collision, where authorities may gain access to vehicle data, why potentially self incriminate for any minor indiscretions in speed?
They all do it and it seems BYD as well. Our cars in Australia literally always appear to be missing features as found in the oversea market. Example: Our KIA EV6 GT-Line is missing the rear seat heating as it is installed in all the oversea models. I hope they won't strip features out of the Shark when it arrives.
Nice detailed tutorial Tom. Sadly, it looks like I won't be purchasing a Seal as the steep access to my driveway from the public road means that clearance from the underside of the front bumper is reduced to approx. 2 centimetres in an unladen Seal. I imagine fixing the issue would be a costly exercise, and simply not worth spending possibly a few thousand dollars having some bitumen removed and the angle leading to my cement driveway reduced. I drove a Performance Seal yesterday and did various careful checks of how the Seal traversed my driveway, being cautious not to in anyway damage the dealer demo vehicle. It would just be a very short time before I would scrape the black bottom part of the Seals bumper. I was absolutely blown away by the Performance Seal. Incredible amount of power and noticeably quieter than our Atto 3. Too be expected of course. Interesting I noticed that the screen brightness was at 100%, and not overly bright, but adequate. On our Atto 3 I have the screen brightness at I think 15 or 20%, so plenty adjustment in reserve for if and when the LED backlight of the screen loses a bit of brightness. I guess I'll have another look at the Tesla M3 - including the Long Range AWD version. My conclusion is that the Seal is better value for money (at least in Australia) but the M3 has a bit more clearance under the front bumper.
Shame about the low clearance! Same at my place because have a sloping driveway also. I’ve got rubberised speed bumps but am still trying to work out the ideal placement to prevent the scrapes - luckily it’s just on the plastic part of the hull
The rubber sticking out before the wheels on the underside of the car is just there for aero purposes. i wouldn't worry about it getting scratched. pretty sure you can take that off.
A question, 256gb is a waste of memory?? (Since it indicayes máximum 128) Or if you use a 256gb the car takes advantage of tue 100% of the 256gb storage?? Thanks!
Hi can you please tell me where to plug the cam cable in the BYD HAN cause I didn't find the unit and the cable wasn't provided? Thanks a lot for your help.
@@LudicrousFeed the South American version doesn't come with the cable like yours! I had to go all around the car with an extra cable. But it works! Love my dashcam thanks
I think Tom where the number 1 was displayed at the top of the screen in camera mode next to the vehicle speed info, the 1 could represent Eco mode, 2 normal mode and 3 sport mode perhaps as to what driving mode was selected at the time of driving and the actual time of the recording.
It's definitely throttle strength. It also shows regenerative braking level and indicators. Very nifty. I also have a 2ch blackvue installed with battery backup that gives about 12 hours of parking (sentry) mode 👍.

@@LudicrousFeed No, I have a SL6 from October 2024 in Australia, and they've covered over the hole where the camera would point, there doesn't seem to be the place where the camera would click and there's no cable, so I believe it's about $1300 to pay BYD to install it now 😥

Rapid fire of my findings for anyone on the hunt for an EV journey:
- I found the Tesla LR was a bit course on freeways I tried, but the Model 3 Performance was great.
Poor effort (but this video helps with that)
- I really think the Seal infotainment is more than enough and does a great job overall.
If however you are looking at brute force with the best seats and don't care about too much else (this would be
Very professional presentation Tom, I will point people to this video if they can't follow mine :)
Pleasure! It was your original video which provided me with the inspiration so thank you 🙏
at approx 4mins into your video it shows the aperture in the casing where the lens of the camera will go thru so as to have a full view of what's ahead. In my case, that aperture appears to be fully blocked by a rubber grommet which impedes the lens of the camera to pass thru. I don't know if I should rip it off as I don't want to damage any part of the car. Any suggestions.
Yes apparently the newer builds have this grommet which can be pushed through apparently (according to other comments)
any info about the camera spec ? 1080p? hows the recordinf quality at night?
Yes 1080p - recording at night is ok but sometimes hard to see the plates of other cars
could you do one for your european atto3 drivers who do not get supplied with the dash cam please?
If the opportunity arises …
How did you separated the little bracket from the main housing?
Some people have said just push it out?
@@LudicrousFeed thanks 🙏🏻
Thanks for this video Tom. I’ll try to install the dash cam in my Seal next weekend. I already ordered the pry tool from Amazon.
Slightly not related question, how and where did you put the linkt e-tag in your seal? Is it ok to put it inside the box along with the dash cam? Not sure if there is enough space and if it will work properly. TIA! Cheers!
Pleasure! Check out this video and you'll see where I placed my tolling device: ruclips.net/video/gBMin5wYB1s/видео.htmlsi=t07gN91ap3beREqt&t=167
It's been working for me 👍
@@LudicrousFeed alright, thank you. 😊
Hi Tom, I can’t seem to find it in the linked video. 😅 it was all about accessories from top byd. Maybe it’s in another video. 🤔
Have a look at the 2 min 47s mark of that video: you'll see it just to the top and left of the housing in the corner ...
@@LudicrousFeed 😮 ohh… I did not notice it, my apologies. 🙇 thanks again for the assistance, I greatly appreciate it.
You’re is channel is my go to when it comes to EVs and BYD Seal. 😁 I also used your code when I purchased the dash cam in Top Byd store. Cheers mate! ☺️
Great video thanks, can anyone confirm this still works with the latest update to software. I installed the camera on the weekend and its not detected. Thanks in advance.
This dashcam works ok for me up to the time of this post (Aug 2024) to V1.2.1 2403
- Maybe try rebooting the car? ie. hold onto the power button (volume control) for up to 10 seconds
@@LudicrousFeed Thanks I have rebooted the car , just no detection of the camera.
Camera hardware issue? Might be worth asking the seller …
@@LudicrousFeed I think so 👍
wonder if we can use for sentry mode? or view via phone?
Sadly no and no. Or at least not yet
G'day Tom, plugged in my dash cam, for some reason I'm not getting that message or app showing up when restarting the car😢
Any clues or hints??
Hmm … and I assume you’ve tried the power/volume button hold down for 10 seconds?
If you are confident the connection/wiring is correct then you may need to contact the supplier
@LudicrousFeed yeah it's looking like it😢
Thanks for the quick response
Great video guide! can i request video for how to use apps activate sentry mode recording on seal?
Thanks! There’s no sentry mode or park mode with this camera
Great content mate, can you do a rundown on home charging the seal? What charger, installation etc
Sure, I’ll show what I use at home in an upcoming video so stay tuned 🙏
why not use the 360 camera that build by car ?
Doesn’t record to Dashcam app
is this standard across the range? looking at getting the Premium.
Yes it is
how clear is the camera when recording during driving. can it read plates? thinking of incase you are hit, can it see and easily record the plate, or is it unclear? Also, is there factory rear camera ?
During the day, it can read plates. At night, not so much. I don’t have a rear camera installed yet
How to remove the camera lens cover ?
Can you try just pushing it through?
Do you know you could remove this black "ring" over back mirror to have it nicely frameless ))
Oooo ok I’ll try
@@LudicrousFeed i-a.d-cd.net/RgwemAaeGWeOg4takbI4tz60dXw-1920.jpg
I tried it and yes I agree it looks good!
Hi, what about the rear dashcam? Do I need to install it separately?
You’ll have to find another aftermarket product for the rear
Question. If you deselect "display driving info on screen" does it only stop displaying speed? Or all other info and just show the footage? Some may ask why? Well unless you're in a very serious collision, where authorities may gain access to vehicle data, why potentially self incriminate for any minor indiscretions in speed?
If you remove the driving info, only the VIN and date/time remains
Can this dashcam operate when the car is lock or only when the car is running?
There’s no inbuilt “park mode” unfortunately. The car must be on for recording to occur
Is there a dashcam model that has the park mode? This is helpful to detect careless drivers. What about two way camera ie including the rear view?
They all do it and it seems BYD as well. Our cars in Australia literally always appear to be missing features as found in the oversea market.
Example: Our KIA EV6 GT-Line is missing the rear seat heating as it is installed in all the oversea models.
I hope they won't strip features out of the Shark when it arrives.
The unspoken reason is to do with security/espionage, the usual
@@LudicrousFeed LOL...yeah, I can see that. Amazing how Tesla and all the other brands appear to be 100% trusted.
Phew that’s good to hear
Is there an option for rear cam to record from rear?
@@reyanicete Sadly not
Need to install dash cam!
Old fashioned, like an ICE car.
😁
Hi, I have just purchased this dash cam and installed successfully, but just wondering how to restart the computer? because I am having the dolphin.
Have you tried turning the car off and on again?
@@LudicrousFeed i tried, but nothing changed
Ok so as per manual to reset the infotainment screen, hold the centre scroll/volume button for 3 seconds
I got my camera and it sits in the bag because I can't get the housing off. It doesn't come off easily like yours does and not prepared to risk it.
Some people have managed to install it with the housing half off
Tom do you have footage from your dashcam at night so we can see how clear it is?
I’ll try to remember to show some footage in a future vlog
@@LudicrousFeed Thanks Tom.
There is no cable in my Seal U dm I vehicle. How can I install it? How do I remove the plastic parts to lower the cable? Does anyone have experience?
It's possible the "lock video" prevents the dashcam footage from being overwritten when it cycles back to the first video when the card is full
Ah yes that is quite probably
Thank you

A question, 256gb is a waste of memory?? (Since it indicayes máximum 128) Or if you use a 256gb the car takes advantage of tue 100% of the 256gb storage?? Thanks!
Seems to be utilising it …
In mine, there is no wiring for it, purchased it for no use unfortunately
I believe you can buy wiring for it too
@@LudicrousFeed i have the wire, purchased them both, but have no idea on how to install it in this case
Can it be installed in the seagull?
It’s not one of the vehicles listed in the Top BYD description
This will only give you the front view. What's the solution for rear view?
You’ll need a third party camera
Hi can you please tell me where to plug the cam cable in the BYD HAN cause I didn't find the unit and the cable wasn't provided? Thanks a lot for your help.
Some models in different markets don’t come equipped with the cable - you may have to buy this separately
Yes I bought it with the cam but I can't find the unit behind the console where to plug it like other BYDs
Has anyone successfully installed the BYD dash camera on a UK spec Dolphin? Was the wiring there?
Good question
For some reason mine doesn't open up as easily as yours. I wasn't able to open mine up.. I'll take it to the dealership to see if they can try
Hmm let us know how you go
@@LudicrousFeed the South American version doesn't come with the cable like yours!
Hmm maybe but I think the numbers changed during the drive hence what made me think it was the throttle strength 🤷♂️
It's definitely throttle strength. It also shows regenerative braking level and indicators. Very nifty. I also have a 2ch blackvue installed with battery backup that gives about 12 hours of parking (sentry) mode 👍.
@@Cam-uo8eywhere did you get this from please?
@@jondee6145 the blackvue? I've had it for a few years - was in my previous car. I can't actually remember where I bought it. Was online somewhere.
Does installing this dashcam void BYD warranty?
Good question but no
@LudicrousFeed Thank You, your videos are very informative and helpful 👍
Is it same with Sealion6 ? thanks
Can’t be 100% sure sorry … hopefully someone with a SL06 can confirm
can I use this for byd tang ?
According to TopBYD’s description, yes it works for the Tang also: www.topbyd.com/products/byd-atto-3-vehicle-mounted-dash-cam | Code: BYDTOM for 5% off site wide
thank you.
Hi Tom thanks for your dedication to the EVs
Do you know if BYD is planning on do the security filming while the car is park like Teslas Do?
Many thanks
I don’t have that info I’m afraid but it would surely just be a software implementation given there are at least 4 outward looking cameras … sadly the side cameras don’t look high enough to see the perp’s face
Hi. Thanks for the channel’s informative content. The AliExpress product is no longer available, I don’t see any other availability. Any idea from anyone in the channel or the conversation ?
The same DVR is available from other sellers on AliE also
I placed an order of dash cam, floor mat and sun shade today using your coupon of 5% discount. Hope you do gain some commission from this transaction.
Thank you and enjoy!
thank for the upload video with details. I didnt know they didnt come with the dash cam. I mean.. you purchased the car that comes with the spec then it should be in the package. Why did they take off the dash cam though? bloody hell... i hate that they take out something out of the car. Same thing when i first purchased brand new toyota camry back then and there are some rear light bulb is not fitted or included. really... i mean REALLY!.
The working theory is that it was removed due to EU privacy laws and for ease of production was removed across the entire line
Does the BYD have sentry mode and a dash cam mode like a tesla?
Sadly this is one drawback of the BYD Seal
Don’t think Tom would not be installing this if it did, also don’t think it will have a sentry mode after this installation, just a dashcam.
@@LudicrousFeed i am starting to see where byd is doing its cost cuting.
I'm so confused about all the variants, at least in my manual there is no SD card slot, at least in the menu it shows sd card & usb storage, will check tomorrow on my car. Thanks for the video, looks doable without break too much.
Did you manage to find the otg usb port on the Seal yet?
I haven’t seen a OTG port yet in the Seal but I wonder if an adaptor would work for the USB-A data port
Will the dash cam support, sealion 6?
Yes I believe so
@@LudicrousFeed No, I have a SL6 from October 2024 in Australia, and they've covered over the hole where the camera would point, there doesn't seem to be the place where the camera would click and there's no cable, so I believe it's about $1300 to pay BYD to install it now 😥
@@magicalmusic882 can you poke the cover through the hole?
@@LudicrousFeed no, I think you'd have to replace the entire cover, it seems solid
Scrap that, the cover was just a rubber cover that I popped out with a bolt, and found the cable and removed the fabric, plugged in and works perfectly as per your video. Thanks heaps for the info. Confirmed all good on modern sl6!
Thanks for a very informative videoTom, with the installation of the dash cam.
Do you need the plastic trim tool to remove that small piece of trim, or can you just use your fingers to remove it?
Pleasure. I used my fingers to gently pry both sides apart - warning: do not rush this step as there is a risk the plastic clips could break given its brittleness
Yes, in this case, patience is a real virtue, lol.
Just saw the video.... 😅😅😅Take off the black cover from the mirror.. It is just for protection.... Took mine today...2 months after I got the car!!! 😅😅😅😅😅😅
Cheers 👍
I also took mine off a while ago after I made the vid
Darn - this camera is out of stock in that link! We just got the Seal Premium too - it’s great isn’t it?
Yes I’m enjoying the Seal Premium very much 👍 Look at other sellers on AliE - there are some other selling the same DVR
