You may want to consider Cunard's Queen Mary 2 - a ship built to be a transatlantic specialist, making multiple non stop crossings each year. It's a bit old school - ball room instead of bumper cars, library instead of rollercoaster, planetarium instead of bowling ally - but a QM2 crossing is its own unique attraction. The 2016 refit added single staterooms - but these seem to the first category to sell out, even faster than kennel space :-)
I have done two TAs solo on RCL during the past two years, and have booked another on Princess this fall. Cheaper than a business class airfare and I arrive without jet lag. Ships have been uncrowded as they are in shoulder seasons when kids are in school.
Definitely yes! I did a 49 day repositioning cruise from California to New York, (the ship was too large for the Panama Canal. I had such a great time!
Thank you so much for sharing this video. You’ve convinced me to do this. I was thinking about taking a 14 day transatlantic with HAL, my favourite line and the prices are insanely low, even for a verandah. I’ve never thought of it as crossing the Atlantic and now that you mention it, it truly is! How many people get to do this? Thanks for all your tips. I agree with all of them, especially the insurance and seasickness meds even if you’ve never been seasick before. One never knows what can happen. Thanks once again. You’ve enlightened me and inspired me to do a solo transatlantic cruise.
Great video we are booked our third transatlantic cruise this time on Celebrity this fall Southampton to Fort Lauderdale ,in the past we were on Royal Caribbean we enjoyed the sea days. Will see how Celebrity is compared to RCCL there is so much to do on RCCL ships.
Thank you. I am taking a solo Transatlantic cruise next April. Odyssey of The Seas from Bayonne to Rome. The second part if my B2B is Rome Greek Isles 7 night cruise
Did a TA on Holland America and had a blast. Trivia, music trivia, Orange party, sitting in the sun reading. Heaven to me. Stopped at cool ports, Dover, Normandy, Azores, Cork and more.
I’m so happy I found your channel! I’m doing my first transatlantic cruise on the Odyssey of the seas in October 2025! I cruised Alaska on the Ovation of the seas and Quantum of the seas! This is my favorite class of ships!🚢 🚢🚢
A year ago, I was solo on the Apex Rome to Ft. Lauderdale. I absolutely loved it. I'm retired so I have the time. Rough weather and high seas don't bother me in the slightest. Not even after a half dozen whiskys at the bar.
i have been on two repositioning cruises. the first cruise had two stops; both cancelled; the second repositioning cruise was 10 days and zero port days scheduled.
Am watching this because it is on your channel. Am subscribed and hit the like button. Number 51 of 703 viewers. My late wife wondered about all the sea days on our Panama Canal Cruise. She loved it. Sometimes sleeping late is good. Don't have to worry about anyone else. Like to shop on the ship, like to play in the casino. Sometimes some specialty dining rooms are open for lunch at a reduced cost. A classic cruise ship is nice. However, most cruise lines are building ships larger. Better to have sea sick medication and not use it than need it and not have it. I belong to Cruise Critic. No one else will want to admit they are also cruise critic members. So, on my last cruise I never met anyone I spoke with on the website.
There is only one ship you should take to make a Transatlantic Crossing: The Queen Mary 2 - the last Ocean liner in service. Next year QM2 makes her 400th Transatlantic Crossing. She was built to cross the ocean and is the best choice to cross the Ocean. Next year I will do a double transatlantic crossing on her
Well done, well thought out and thorough. Leaving on 4/7/24 12 days Fl to Rome on Norwegian Epic in the Solo Cabin/Solo Lounge. And I agree with you, the Sea Days are what I look forward to the most. This was very helpful and informative. I’m a fan of The Travelling Hobo on RUclips. She has a great expression, “If you can’t afford travel insurance, then you can’t afford to travel” In the words of Forrest Gump, “_it Happens 😊” Thanks for the great content!
I would love to see a cost breakdown: basic cost, + tax + drink package + gratuities + anything else. You don't have to be specific, but I see cheap fares, but understand that it usually cost 80% more than that when all is taken in.
Work in the cruise industry in Fort Lauderdale. There are always school age children on ships year round regardless of the school calendar especially during holidays and summer.
Informative video and great advice. Thanks for that. I also took notice of your bookcase and realized I have some of the same books you do. I've debated whether to do a one way Panama Canal trip (Florida to California) or a transatlantic. Any preference?
I've never done that trip but it's on my bucket list! For me, I live on the East Coast, so I would begin on the West Coast and come back to Florida. I would get that long travel day out of the way at the front of the cruise so it wasn't so bad getting back home afterwards.
Well, nothing wrong with grabbing a last minute cruise, if that suits you. But if you like to get as much savings as possible, the earlier the better. I am booked 18 months out. It gives me plenty of time to plan my travel year and travel budget.
On a trans-Atlantic cruise right now & would not do it again. The sea days are terribly boring and the food becomes repetitive and everyone just hung out and drank, as there is little else going on. We also have a ton of folks that are just flooding the buffet & bars. Not our scene, so never again. Our earlier Mediterranean cruise was much better, with more ports to see and a less crowded ship. We also noticed that the folks on the trans Atlantic cruise were a lot less polite and very self focused on themselves. A whole different class of people.
I did a 16 day solo. LOVED it! So much to do ESP on sea days that I cldnt keep up
I'm so glad you enjoyed! Thank you for sharing and commenting.

That's on my bucket list!
That would be my #1 choice!
Maybe I could stay in a kennel!
u forgot to mention that she is the last ocean liner too!
I have crossed on the Queen Mary 2 , 3 times and on the Norwegian Escape .The winner , is the Escape hands down .
I have done two TAs solo on RCL during the past two years, and have booked another on Princess this fall. Cheaper than a business class airfare and I arrive without jet lag. Ships have been uncrowded as they are in shoulder seasons when kids are in school.
Great way to travel!
I have a solo transatlantic cruise booked for 11/24/23.
I think i will thoroughly enjoy.
Thank you for sharing!!
Sounds terrific! Enjoy!
How was it?
I’ve just disembarked a solo cruise on Virgin’s Valiant Lady, and I looooooved it - SO relaxing!
Sounds wonderful! I may try them soon!
Definitely yes! I did a 49 day repositioning cruise from California to New York, (the ship was too large for the Panama Canal. I had such a great time!
Wow! 49 days is a long time!
What's a repositioning cruise ❓
Outstanding Information.
Gives me a lot to think about.
I'm going to do this.
It sounds magnificent.
It really is! Just make sure to choose a ship that suits your style. I hope you have a wonderful time! 😊

Thank you. Your video gave me something to inspire to do
I’m a solo cruiser with a flexible schedule, I love it!
Perfect!

Sounds fun! I am also trying out Celebrity soon!
New subscriber from Montreal! Looking forward to my first transatlantic cruise.
Enjoy! Thank you so much for subscribing!
I watched a solo guy who had a solo cabin that even gave them a private lounge.
Sounds great!
Thank you.
I am taking a solo Transatlantic cruise next April. Odyssey of The Seas from Bayonne to Rome. The second part if my B2B is Rome Greek Isles 7 night cruise
Sounds fabulous!

Thank you! That sounds very exciting! Love Odyssey of the seas, what a fun ship. Enjoy your cruise!
Sounds marvelous. :)
Thank you!
Great video! We want to do a Transatlantic. A few more years when we don't have to worry about work!
Sounds like a great plan! Thank you for watching!

@@SheSailsAway I'm sorry. It was the Edge. Same ship, different day.

Thank you so much for that… I'm actually taking my mother on that ship next year and we're both very excited.
Hello, I will be also on a roundtrip in April 28th 2024, the QM2 is for me the most exciting liner for a crossing. I love it.
I have a client that does 3 a year, by herself. She loves it!
Sounds wonderful!
Done 3 TA two on P&O westward one on Royal Caribbean Independence of the seas Miami to Southampton wonderful.
Sounds terrific!

Good idea for a future video. Yes, Cruise fare is only half the equation! Definitely spend a lot more once on board.

Sounds like a fun industry to work in! 😊And very true, thank you!

You're welcome and thank you!
Doing a solo TA in April on Oasis and JUST got a free cruise on Navigator thanks to my gambling, it was a surprise and is out of LA, YAY!
Hooray! What fun!
Great video and tips!
Thank you!
Yes this helped convince me!!❤
So glad! Happy sailing!
I'm totally convinced...BTW, how far in advance should I book a cruise?
Well, nothing wrong with grabbing a last minute cruise, if that suits you. But if you like to get as much savings as possible, the earlier the better. I am booked 18 months out. It gives me plenty of time to plan my travel year and travel budget.
I did a TA back in 1970... not that much to do on the trip...
A lot of your clips were from the Disney Dream. I was on that cruise!
Oh, how fun!
Is the TransAtlantic cruise usually full (fully populated)? Is it as crowded as a regular cruise?
My first one was about two thirds full, last year it was sold out! Hard to say. They are growing in popularity.
Visiting less ports = less port fees.
Great reminder!

Oh no, sorry you had such a terrible experience! That sounds bad.
