I did the same thing to my box - looked old and rusted - I put a red gloss on it, used plasti-dip on the black drawers (to get a really nice look and to cover up some of the rust) - and metallic paint on the handles and side as well as the casters. Used brake clean on the logo and it looks brand new.
Which paint did you use exactly and has it continued to hold up? There are so many options out there and I only want to do this job once. I see good things about Rust-Oleum 2X
I working on one as we speak and deciding what to do with the chrome. I think yours was in better shape to begin with. Mine spent 25+ years as a front line airline mechanics toolbox (my dad) it's beat to hell, and got stuff so sticky I could barely get it off lol.
Ben O sadly, with quite the mechanical background, I can't see a way of removing the drawers without bending the slides or drawer. I'd appreciate any info cause I don't want to replace anything.
@@craigweida801 theres a small half inch oblong shape slot on the sliders. All you have to do is pull the drawer all the way out and press the tab thats on the drawer thru the slot. When ready to put back in just use a screw drive push the tab back the way it was.
@@fernandosantibanez8306 It depends on how old the box is. There were originally spring clips with a finger tab. You could grab the tab, pull the clip out of the rail and swing it up or down and the drawer slid out. Then they got cheaper and eliminated the finger tab so you needed a screw driver to lift the clip, however, both types are interchangeable. The second type is available on ebay. and probably from Waterloo/ Black & Decker, the current manufacturer. Then we come to the last and sleaziest version. They did away with a separate clip and resorted to bending sheet metal. The drawer has a finger stamped into it that bends out and catches the slide. Depressing the finger, through the slide, bends it in, releasing the drawer. Before replacing the drawer, bend the finger back out so it catches the drawer slide.
I am getting a free one from my Uncle soon, and thinking of doing this. Do the drawer guides on the inside come off too? I am wanting to paint it black or blue as I have a severe dislike of the color red.
That turned out great.
What did you lub the drawer rails with ?
Love saving old stuff!!!
I realize it is kinda off topic but does anyone know of a good site to watch new movies online ?
@Alessandro Josue Try flixzone. Just google for it =)

Fabrication Restoration Best price ever! Then you made it look cool! Ah, self satisfaction in a job well done. That is a fine brand of contentment.
