I know this is an Old comment. BUT you could set this same profile on the camera and apply a LUT Preset (cube and PNG) inside OBS Studio Live stream software
Thank you for all your useful and well done videos ! Very helpful for me and for many others! We like your calm and precise tone, and, beleive me, your landscape and home area. Also, your living room is so classy and inspires to relaxation...
Thanks for this! I've been using a similar profile on my GX80, except I had the noise reduction at -5 and I didn't adjust the shadows/highligst curve in-camera. Will try your profile for my next video!
5 years later, do u still think it extends dynamic range? im asking mainly because ghalex (the guy with emotive colors) doesnt recommend this. i asked him a while back and he recommends keeping contrast at 0. of course, he provides in his method a lut that converts the "natural" (also "cinelike d", i think) to vlog, but he recommends keeping contrast at 0. he did the gh5 to alexa conversion in a very precise way/methodology. and i seem to recall he also recommends against fiddling with highlight/shadow, if im not mistaken. opinions?
Thank you for this video, I acn see a little more green color in the flat color profile for the g85/g7 - would you recommend to get some of that green out so it can match better with he Sony color profile, I know it will never be exact but maybe less luma or green color space can help achieve a more cine flat look? But I have noticed that my G7 picks up a lot more green color/tone especially with flourcent lights or office lights since those cast a green light.
lowering the contrast and changing the highlights and shadows settings does not increase the dynamic range at all. It is the same as doing it in Davinci in Post. I did many tests on this and the result was that the only thing this does is bring in Noise.
Not trying to fight but more like talking about it, but this is how I see it. if I clip something and then bring down the highlights in Resolve, the scopes will show that it's not clipping even though the information is not there anymore. So the waveform might show that it's fine, but in reality, all your doing is lower an already clipped highlight. I think I'll upload the tests so people can decide but it's hard to really judge with this RUclips compression :p Specially when we talk about Noise in the footage. But my results were that lowering the contrast and the saturation and changing the shadow/highlight settings only bring in noise, because in the end, I am not keeping a flat profile, I am color grading it, bringing in more contrast etc. So the only difference I saw between leaving a the picture profile at 0 vs all the way down to -5 is that making it "flat" brought some unnecesary noise and lost some valuable information in colors that couldn't be brought back compared to the neutral 0 picture profile.
You can see this very well actually if you clip the skin of someone in the highlights with a light, try bringing down the highlights in the camera and you'll see it doesn't help. The detail is gone.
I am certainly willing to discuss about that, but the waveform cant't lie, my practical results after color grading hundreds of clips shot on G85 using various settings are also that settings shown in this video are the best for capturing as much dynamic range as possible. Noise is mostly introduced with highlights / shadows settings, which is why I only recommend -1 / +1 setting there. I am also editing on 100% AdobeRGB 10-bit IPS calibrated monitor, so that can make a difference in what you see as well.
Do you recommend this flat profile setting for Stills as well on a gx7. And just boosting everything in post. Hi hybrid shooter, I'm really new to video shooting and grading, so my question is : You drop sharpness to -5, why? Did you resharpen afterwards or is there no need for it? I just don't quite understand it.
That's because sharpened video is not necessarily suitable for all purposes, and if you turn it down in camera you can control level of the sharpness in the editing.
The Hybrid Shooter ah okay, now I get it. I thought that 0 would be enough and - would mean the camera "undersharpens" the video for some reason. That is what I didn't understand.
