The DOD has always been and still is my favorite overdrive pedal.. adds just the right amount of presence and grit for lead passages. Though I’ll concede that the TS808 and SD-1 play the “always on” role a bit better.
One interesting comparison would be to compare an original grey Dod versus the Fender YJM. Another one is to try different speakers G12H30 and G12T75 especially, Yngwie seems to prefer the latest one as far as I know.
First time I get to see one of your videos the same release date, yay!!! Just ordered a new DOD 250 form Digitech website, they're on sale if anyone is interested. The SD-1 sounds great on the Marshall due to the mid hump and bass cut, basically same circuit as the TS but in simple terms, the Ibanez is like just shaved and the Boss is 3 day beard, or something like that, hehe.
I got a DOD on sale too! It took a while to get to me but it did get here. So far I like it a lot. I had to lower the bass side of my pickups to keep it from getting all flabby but I'm new to pedals so that might be common.
TS for me and my Marshall rig but the SD-1 sounded really good here. Pass on DOD (PS: never heard it pronounced like “Todd” - isn’t is D-O-D? :) Thanks for this...
Boss sounded best to me. Dod pretty good, close second. Tube screamer nice but maybe not as much sparkle and sustain as the Dod or Boss.. But they're all great! ty 4 vid El Capitan
Hi, I'm from Argentina and I watch your videos. Could you use two camcorders to capture the setting of the pedals ?. This would make it more attractive to your channel for those who do not speak the language.
I think your next favorite budget drive pedal will be the Demon tube screamer I told you about it will be the best of both of a ts9 and the 808 combined. Cheers!
Have you tried the Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer Turbo? It has 4 knobs not 3. One of the knobs has 4 settings.. standard TS9, then the + setting, the Hot setting, and the Turbo setting..each one making the tone bigger as you go up from standard to Turbo.. Not more scratchy crappy modern gain, just huger tone.. Better than I thought it might be..not bad for $109 new.. Can you post up a video comparing it to other pedals and see what you think? It is worth checking out..
Only found out about the DoD 250 as of lately. I would't mind any of the three pedals given to me 😂 But if it were my money I'd just buy the cheapest, that would be the Boss (new) anno 2024. BTW the re-issue of the 250 does have an led 😮
In my experience you can get pretty much any classic overdrive pedal and shape it using an EQ pedal. I feel the same way about most amps. Never understood why eqs aren't the single most common pedal in the world.
Sd1 wins for being more aggressive and suitable for heavier stuff (in boost mode into distorted amp)... But I won't mind flirting with a tube screamer since it's a classic too. Then I'd like to try a germanium type od (dod, dist+) to boost exclusively during solos like Dave Murray did in the 80's.

I liked how you showed us how cables affect Tone (no cable vs. yes cable) even before any pedals are involved.
The DOD is a hard clipper like an MXR Distortion +. The Tube Screamer and Boss are soft clippers with similar circuits.

Bought my DOD 250 about 40 years ago. No need to peddle jump. It still works.

Yeah, I think he uses the 75.
All three pedals are just legendary, but BOSS SD1 continues to amaze me/us again and again. Probably overdrive no.1, ever.
SD-1 is the best!!
Normal.
Clearly yellow is better than green.
Maxon OD808 is also basically a tube screamer (TS-9) but for cheaper
Wanna be friends ! More seriously the best is to have all of them so you can choose a certain type of pedal depending on your mood of the moment.
Yep :)
👍, actually I find the boss works better for a boost pedal
Full gain.
Dod 250 10:12
Ibanez 10:59
Boss sd1 11:38
Ibanez 13:15
Boss 13:42
Dod 14:34
Cheers Phil
I already own and love my 20yr old SD-1 yet this makes me want to purchase another one haha. WOW.
I figured the SD-1 would beat Dollar Screamer, but I didn't expect it to be better than 250, cool :)
:)
Anyone of those 3 pedals into a Marshall sounds like classic rock to me
TS808 SRV, DOD250 YM, SD-1 Zakk Wylde.
BTW DOD 250 vs Fender YM Overdrive would be a interesting comparison.
I think I did that Yngwie comparison earlier.
@@MrPolevaulter Cool, ill check that out, thank You EK :)

My very first pedal was the DOD Overdrive. Bought it at Pampalones Music in Boston. Back in 1982.
Great Vid Elmo! Have you ever tried the Behringer T-800 and if you have what are your thoughts on it? Thanks man, be Safe and have a Great Day!
Haven't tried one.
My fren want to sell to me Dod250 for usd70..is it worth to buy?
I think so.
Good stuff Elmo! For a guy who's into 5150, 6505 and EVH tones (like me), all those pedals are great boosters. :)
Cool bananas :)

No one beats a TS for the price , 👍 , many have tried many have died.
English isn't his 1st language...
👍SD-1 & EHX SOUL FOOD (would make a great demo)
#1. SD-1
#2. TS
#3. DOD
There is a custom shop Play Loud limited to a run of 100 for sale online. Only 16,500$! Nice playing
Haha :D Now ONLY $16,500 :D

I have done occasionally. Thanks for the suggestion.

Of course the Boss sounds best
i can hear hints of vh in the sd1

No I haven't. Might do at some point though.
It's only you that made a proper comparison of the 3. The DOD is maybe a pedal just because it's legendary. So then I also need Distortion+ 😆
$50? Not anymore. Just check ebay and the DOD is, $200.
The SD-1 wins this with embarrassing ease
Eu prefiro o DoD e o TS 808, mas o TS soa com mais definição de graves. Rock on!
Only found out about the DoD 250 as of lately.

That what I want! Thank u
And thank you :)
👍🇺🇲❤EHX.....EAST RIVER DRIVE......I MUCH PERFER OVER THE IBANEZ TUBE SCREAMER.

SD-1
Boss is the BOSS here!
For yngwie sounds the dod was winner.
Yep :)
And TS was the worst for YJM sounds. 😂
i have them all and i love them all. ❤😊
BOSS SD1
I prefered the Ibanez until you cranked the gain. Then the dod really shined. The boss sounded the worst of the three
No cable = true bypass
:D
