They should have tried to make the button go into the micro usb port instead, as it is a port that is seldom in use whilst out and about. Then at the end of each day you can take it out only once to charge instead of switching the button and headphones out more than once in day if you're that type of user.
I am still waiting on my Pressy (Australia). They have released an update to the backers to state there was problems with the HTC One M7/M8 and they are working on fixing the bugs ASAP before new features

Or you could just not buy it and unlock your phone and then open whatever app you want, or do what you need to do. Which doesn't take much time at all..

Can't you essentially just get a pair of headphones with a mic and answer button. Then download the apk and use the button on the mic as a substitute?

The APK is not available but yes you can do this. When you want to listen to music you can still use your mic button in replace of it.
I can do most of those functions with 3rd party app, by using volume rocker (up or down)
This technology was used even 30 years ago when some cassette walkman features a little remote built in the cord of earphones.
