I feel like they spent the majority of their budget making their CG promotional video. There is less than ten seconds of footage of it actually flying.
a few questions: - How long does the battery last? I guess no more then half an hour. - How stable is it in wind? - Why would it be better then a QC drone if it can't carry a load? - The army uses even smaller drones then these already, then why would you use this one? - How much sound does it produces? (if used for spionage missions) - How will it ever protect your house if they just can carry it whit them? - Why does every promotional video lies?
Lies! Lies and more Lies! It is really sickening, when kids eagerly try do make them for their school or college projects, to see these Dragon Lies, flutter hopelessly on the dirt instead of the clouds! Plain lure to get funds and sales offers and investments from those - - - - s who believe in these younsters. Too bad from the Scientific Perspective.
And I gotta say, with 3d printing, flexible screens, and everything else that's been coming out, this is definitely one of the coolest and most versatile :)
they asked for 100 grand, got well over a million in funding and have not made anything yet. People are getting angry thinking that they have been scammed
Simple Rohan No offense intended, but your comment is too simple Rohan! Is your point that because it is promotional that I should expect exaggeration and therefore not mention it?
This is fake. It cant fly with such small wings. Look at real dragonfly and her wings/body ratio, and then look at this robot. Where is battery ? Is it so small, that it's not visible ? So, how long this robot can "function" (I doubt it can fly) with such small battery ?
It can hover and glide . Principle takeaway ? Flies , birds and cockroaches are at the back of R&D's ' vending machine . We , on the consumer level see whats at the front . Quite literally, 1984 is now a cliche . And yes , even cloaking or really assimilation with its surface
+beaglemanzzz I bet you they had major problems putting a camera on this thing, without a stabilizer its useless, and there is no gimbal small enough and light enough to add that will keep the device in the air?
The military already have them, so this is 'reinventing the wheel' for what? To spy on your neighbours? Next invention; an anti nano-drone missile system?
Gordon Freeman, Have you seem what happens to children when a bomb is dropped on or near them? I guess certain ways of beheading people are acceptable, while others are not.
The Dragonfly is a failed crowdfunding project that was to build a miniaturized four-winged ornithopter UAV designed by TechJect. The Dragonfly supposedly was designed for: aerial photography, interactive gaming, autonomous patrolling for security and surveillance, etc.[1] The project claimed that the UAV was going to manufactured by TechJect, but all development was canceled after crowdfunding IndieGoGo refused to release money.[2]
A guy from India is leading this, oh great, I guess we know who everyone's going to bow down to in the future. A robot with an Indian-English accent, with a throne made out of skulls, SkyNet here we come.
This is amazing. Congratulations to the development team. Its usefulness is unquestionable. However, it can easily fall in wrong hands and then we have problems.
It seems to me that to make this thing useful for surveillance would take a camera with size, weight, and image stabilization technologies more advanced than what it takes to make it fly. But if they can deliver what they promise, it will be a really impressive device.
What is the battery life during active usage? What is the maximum operational distance? What software does the Dragonfly support? Does it have flight plan or waypoint capabilities? What is the resolution of the attached camera?
There are 3 different communication channels on the Dragonfly. Yes, Data 2Mbps can be sent over one of the radio channels (which is not Wi-Fi). More information is available on the project page
i know what these guys should do with this. if they manage to make a fully autonomous controls, whether through external controls (ie a program running on a computer communicating with the robot from a ways away) or internal controls (basic programming loaded on the robot), and if they continue making it smaller, they need to make plant pollinators. Robotic bees for commercial use.
Awesome! The lower sound output is a huge benefit compared to multi rotor rc's. I think you should add mentioning that feature in your demo. What is the db output? Now let's see one big enough to carry 200+#! ;)
OMEGA has GPS, and yes you can control it with just GPS alone. the 2.4Ghz RC is capable of 200-500 ft of control, more can be achieved if you have wi-fi networks in the vicinity
I have numerous questions... 1. When will they be available for purchase? 2. Do the different wing styles work together (i.e. Bat wing + Dragonfly wing)? 3. Does the camera on the Dragonfly send live video feed to the controller? If you would answer these questions I would be very happy :D
I love it.... Well done guys... I am no expert or scientist, just a layman spectator, but I was wondering if the addition of solar panels to the wings and/or body might give it additional power and/or range?
Draganfly ($DPRO) is undoubtedly the best solution when looking for an autonomous drone (or manual if you want), for any use. They have currently been chosen by Lufthansa to strengthen the maritime search and rescue infrastructure, they are helping civilians and military personnel in Ukraine by providing them with drones to detect and defuse mines, deliver medicines to the sick and much more. I personally see it as the best innovative company in terms of the services that its drones offer. In fact, it was chosen by the US government to send its drones to rescue Ukraine
We will develop some Apps for the higher end models and open up the Development environment for users as well. There are lots of agility, endurance, target tracking etc games that can be deployed for the platforms. We will post updates on those progressively
On their website it says: "With 20 environmental sensors, cameras and GPS capabilities, it can be developed to track athletes, outdoor events or integrated with an App as a fun way to plot or retrace a day of skiing, hiking or whatever you like." So I'm guessing the answer is yes.
That was a funny video. They show this thing that looked like an unsteady windup toy, then show video from a quadcopter with a GoPro camera on it. Sure that little floppy thing took that video, sure. I'm in the military. If I showed my command this thing, I'd be taking a drug test before the day is out.
CPS2 . Of course it isn't stable yet, have you even read that it's an R&D initiate by people, not your typical Big and huge toys like Quad-copters carrying heavy camera payloads
i've got an idea too! make another version that is just a little bigger but that can carry your stuff around... it would have to sense arount so it doesnt crash, but to stay where you can access your stuff freely
If you offer them in much larger sizes they'll be more stable in a breeze. Otherwise im sticking with the 2 foot dia Cyclone UFO quadcopter. I suppose the military grade ultra capacity battery isn't available?
They got over $1M from Indiegogo. Over a year and no delivery. People are complaining about lack of news and progress. I build quadcopter as a hobby, and I know this is not going to be an easy project. Realistically, I don't even think they have a flying model.
have you heard about the japanese 雀蜂 Suzumebachi or Hornet , it is really as big as a japanese killer bee , really as big as a japanese hornet, just as not noisy as the real thing. using solar panel batteries , with video camera onboard gps and it can walk too. I saw t a month ago at an robot show in Tokyo and it is just amazing, Japan is leading the way of future technology while we just try to keep up with the present
What a great invention! I would like to buy one for my house security but how is it going to work? How long can the fly flying and does it need recharging or it can go back to the bases for recharge by itself? Can we see all the video from the fly if we are away from home? How long can the fly doing the video recording? How much will it cost for security capability? Does it has the capabilities to escape from intruder trying to use a net catching them? Marine Biologist Jo.
I spent 4 tours in Iraq ..I could've used one but the only down fall I see that u should work on . especially if u want a military contract is to make it where its compact as a soldier we need to be able to almost fold it up to fit it some where in reach in a mid to small pocket and be able to grab it and flip it open and go.... Also you should pair it with sunglasses with LCD screen on left upper inside lens so we can see in real time ...also distance we must in a battle field be able to fly at least 50-100 yards... This should be done to it if possible than it would be the ultimate tool... But great job...
Looks like it would be no where near as stable as a quadcopter even with the gyroscopes it would probably shake around no way you'd get a steady video out of it.
No. Those are example scenarios of application. We are getting latest videos posted in the next few weeks. But they will not be as wobbly, because of a number of filters and fast capture rate cameras
Thanks Jay... I have been looking at the video of this great invention and it intrigues me no end... another thought (LOL)... given that is prop driven, could there be a way to harness that energy .. similar to the way a wind turbine generator works?.... Cheers
I feel like they spent the majority of their budget making their CG promotional video. There is less than ten seconds of footage of it actually flying.
1:13 'spy on people'; as the camera hovers two little girls! Yeah...that's not stalker, creepy, predator at all!!!!
a few questions:
- How long does the battery last? I guess no more then half an hour.

When he says "spy on people" there's a picture of kids.
Will Eager Something for the high tech pedophile.
Will Eager so fun
What happens when a bird thinks this is lunch and grabs it and flies away?
Looks like a promotion video for funding.
I can't wait to see it actually work.
they asked for 100 grand, got well over a million in funding and have not made anything yet. People are getting angry thinking that they have been scammed
And they were, these crowd funding sites are counter productive
***** Because it belongs to the Air Force now.
Jared Graber Ist Recce ? I would hasten CIA/SOG and others like DEVGRU
Whats SOG?
Defense doesn't throw money away on nutters, they see a future full of nastiness for this little beast.
Hello from 2020! How are you, Dragonfly?
Wow, I just got a months worth of exaggerated claims in one video!
bro.. it's a promotional video than a discovery channel documentary
Simple Rohan
No offense intended, but your comment is too simple Rohan! Is your point that because it is promotional that I should expect exaggeration and therefore not mention it?
Atka59 Respect you from a cynic's perspective... funded by USAF, there has to be strength to it.. exaggeration to some, might be reality to others
This is really awesome but I'm not sure how this could possibly be more efficient then a quad rotor since they produce constant thrust.

Andrelo1111 WTF? You just witnessed it fly at the start of the video, its not fake, its not made of lead is it so it does fly and it costs over a grand.
VIKINGODIN

2 1/2 years later, where's the dragonfly?
+beaglemanzzz quad copters took over.
+Jorgen297 Of course...it's coming out of academia.
+beaglemanzzz I bet you they had major problems putting a camera on this thing, without a stabilizer its useless, and there is no gimbal small enough and light enough to add that will keep the device in the air?
+beaglemanzzz Gone black proberly.
Wow, this raised more than a million dollars. The final product must be amazing.
A great tool for oppressing people... well done!
dont feel oppressed.. feel releeeeeased..
John Ioannou
Beheading people is unacceptable in any circumstances, and so is bombing people.
Only lunatic psychopaths would suggest otherwise.
niklar55, That's exactly my point.
*90% of flying footage is concept CGI, there's your red flag right there.*

Love to see bright young people working toward success.
Even the uploader's name is Giant Rat. How trustworthy
Your name is spider ass, how ironic
haha :D you again. either you are a part of this cheesy scam, or you invested in it. Either way, the pitty
SpiidAcis lol.. just an engineer who builds small robots.. but eitherway I think indiegogo and kicstarter are great platforms and a firm believer
that was funny.
SpiidAcis he is in on the scam. the only thing that you can find on his account is stuff related to this video
Fantastic, young people ! The world's future is you.

What is the battery life during active usage?
What is the maximum operational distance?
What software does the Dragonfly support? Does it have flight plan or waypoint capabilities?
What is the resolution of the attached camera?
Is it G.P.S. enabled?
is it easy to repair on-sight?
Is there a web-sight?
is this all a joke?
this has a lot of potential. i would love to see a larger version.
Nice one Jayant! Wish you all the best.
That is true. We don't expect the video to be as stable given the small size of the drone, esp. if its a windy day.
Stereo camera built in?!!! Okay. Dear Santa, I want this for my birth anniversary !!!
Flying insects provide lot inspiration to modern technologists to mimic and develop similar machines that can be used in many exciting applications.
Nature is the greatest innovator in the Universe.
this is very cool tec,, we are getting better ar the years go by good job guys
Instantly classified. Literally.. we'll never see it :)

They raised over $1.1M on an Indiegogo campaign in Dec. 2012. Haven't shipped a single unit. Nice videos but not much more.
Damn.
+Dan Tuchler if you read the fine print on the video, paypal and indiegogo is holding their money
Wow! That is pretty awesome!!!!!
Wow! Mom, I want one for Christmas!
Awesome! The lower sound output is a huge benefit compared to multi rotor rc's. I think you should add mentioning that feature in your demo. What is the db output? Now let's see one big enough to carry 200+#! ;)
Glad I stumbled up in here!
This technology is really promising, good effort!
That is not a bad idea at all! It is infact very well thought of.
thank you for helping us reach the next level. Cheers!
the wings are the only dragonfly design, and it will be 100 years before that thing is as agile as a dragonfly. its neat though
OMEGA has GPS, and yes you can control it with just GPS alone. the 2.4Ghz RC is capable of 200-500 ft of control, more can be achieved if you have wi-fi networks in the vicinity
Very awesome. I have waited for sizes like that :)
This is brilliant. Great job guys!
dude if you made this rideable that would be epic
"spy on people"
>shows kids
did NSA order some?
felixccaa probably
Bas Wijkstra they're gonna be disappointed then
Quite an interesting concept.
a crow will grab your dragonfly and tear it apart.
it actually is now real but I'm not sure of how good the quality is but it seems pretty stable during flight
They claim it's so light-weight and small.
If so then it probably can only fly for like literally 2 minutes max.
Good question! That's exactly what I would like to know. The one I ordered is Gamma mach 2 (so does not come with gps).
Im sure it flies under 8 minutes and the motors are lower than 65% efficient do to the size
I'm totally getting one to fly through my house from my bedroom, and watch how people react.
I have numerous questions...
1. When will they be available for purchase?
2. Do the different wing styles work together (i.e. Bat wing + Dragonfly wing)?
3. Does the camera on the Dragonfly send live video feed to the controller?
If you would answer these questions I would be very happy :D
Haha that's my major as well. Just bought an ornithopter too.
I love it.... Well done guys...

It doesn't look very robust . But I like the tech.

Shit, how did I miss this?! Will have to wait when it's commercially available :(
THAT IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOL!!!
On their website it says: "With 20 environmental sensors, cameras and GPS capabilities, it can be developed to track athletes, outdoor events or integrated with an App as a fun way to plot or retrace a day of skiing, hiking or whatever you like." So I'm guessing the answer is yes.
I highly doubt I can put this in my pocket and take it out in one piece
its way too big for spying. my grandmother would knock it down with the sweeper
spy outside the window
Or fly near a bush or tree to conceal it.
When is someone going to build a "GORT" type robot? THAT would be impressive!
Nice idea!
still not delivered a single dragonfly to the supporters :(, hope they deliver ASAP
Very cool. I want one.
I wish I could have grabbed one of these from the campaign, didn't know they had this going :(
That was a funny video. They show this thing that looked like an unsteady windup toy, then show video from a quadcopter with a GoPro camera on it. Sure that little floppy thing took that video, sure. Yeah... I thought that in-flight footage looked suspiciously stable..
CPS2 . Of course it isn't stable yet, have you even read that it's an R&D initiate by people, not your typical Big and huge toys like Quad-copters carrying heavy camera payloads

I suppose the military grade ultra capacity battery isn't available?
ohh thats such a great toy, i must have
are they developing this still? or has it entered production? This would be an interesting RC aircraft to own
its your force of te feature , creation design , i like your job ,
They got over $1M from Indiegogo. Over a year and no delivery. People are complaining about lack of news and progress. I build quadcopter as a hobby, and I know this is not going to be an easy project. Realistically, I don't even think they have a flying model.
but when the wind hits on!! this will go down
"Each iteration gets smaller, and more efficient."
We live in an age where our children might legitimately exclaim, "Mom, a frog ate my robot!"
Its taken humans this long to only mimic the simplest task of nature.
ähhh it took nature much much much longer to develop wings
elc2034 Was going to say the same thing. (: We've begun a whole new line of evolution.
elc2034 Humans knew wings beforehand
Funny how you think flying is simple.
I don't think it's simple. I implied that it was simple for nature.
have you heard about the japanese 雀蜂 Suzumebachi or Hornet , it is really as big as a japanese killer bee , really as big as a japanese hornet, just as not noisy as the real thing. using solar panel batteries , with video camera onboard gps and it can walk too. noway is that dragonfly footage, i want to see gimbal?
I have seen these in my back yard. That would be Phoenix AZ.
My cat would like to have one of those as a toy xD
There it will meet other drones who will program it in the air itself to track down the guy who send it :D
Love the design though
TECNOLOGIA INCREIBLE
What a great invention! I would like to buy one for my house security but how is it going to work? Marine Biologist Jo.
Very nice
I agree with Aaron, pollinators would be good right now...
I would still rather fly a quad copter over this dragonfly.
And the scientist who were in on atomic energy thought he was doing a good thing for humanity too.
Well try Googling something called " Image stabilization " under computer vision. It's used on every camera system in the world right now.
promise me doc, do not develop a skynett otherwise our world will be ruled by robotic terminators.
Fantastic discovery. Now, we need to stay alert, ensuring no dragonfly proximate to us.
how the hell did i ended up here and why i need 10 of these things
Cheers
