I saw the title and remembered reading about Spidersman, the version of Spiderman where he falls into a pit of radioactive spiders that gain his sentience and move as just a huge mass of spiders in a suit. Horrible, just horrible
I read this, and immediately thought of the "three kids in a trenchcoat" gag from old cartoons.
Like, the "hero" is just a six-foot scale model of a huge Mecha, driven by a crack team of Special Operations Spiders.

Which is sadly useless in Ocarina due to the low money cap, the fact that only a few things in the game are expensive, and the fact that money is really easy to find in that game anyways.

It gets sadder. Once you own Quelags soul the blind sister "senses you" with it and assumes it's her.
She thinks you're her sister regardless of whether you have either the Soul or the weapon you can forge with it. She thinks you're her sister when you wear the Witch's Ring, which Quelaag has a copy of.
They mentioned in the video that she thinks you're her sister, anyway.

I Think that shelob could actually have a human form, if she really wanted. Shelob is said to be an “evil thing in spider form” and it was offspring of ungoliant, a primordial spirit in spider form. But I think she would never be a sexy girl but a fat drooling woman, and she wouldn’t try to intervene in the fate of middle earth like that cause she only lived to dwell in darkness and eat.
That Oxford Green city joke made me laugh more than I probably should have done 😂

I'd argue the noble on OoT did learn his lesson. He gave away money as a thank you, if he was still worth being cursed he wouldn't give anything but a pat on the back
Either that or he hoped to get rid of the cursed cash by giving it to you, risking you while staying safe.
I say he didn't, because the lesson should have been that money isn't valuable to life... And the ultimate reward to doing the tedious task of killing all them golden spiders? Money... Literally worthless when you could have spent all that time earning money instead of lifting his curse. I would have hoped he'd have at least given him a Rich Man Wallet or something to hold the maximum amount of gems instead of killing the last 50 or so... Or a rare something or other. Not literally the thing the moral of the story is telling you is not worth a curse. I usually save the entire family, but the father that gives 200 rupees... Because I could make that much doing anything else and still have fun doing it.

I always felt bad for The Fair Lady in Dark Souls. Made me happy to see her and Quelaana in DS3
Actually, the whole "Shelob is a cosmic being that got to choose to be a spider", while obviously not what Tolkein had in mind, doesn't really stretch the canon much. Her mother was an ongodly cosmic power of ultimate darkness more than a match for any of this setting's equivalents to Archangels / Greek Gods which just happened to take a vaguely spider-y form. I'm betting Ungoliant could have opted to wear whatever form it wanted to and went with Spider, the same way tons of Maiar got their pick of shapes and went with 20 foot tall demon monsters, while their peers went for "basically just elves".
It's the thing everyone treats as them trampling all over the lore, but in reality, it's more like them going for some of the Deep Cuts of the cosmology/history most people will never read (because the Silmarillion isn't a great read, or even full of great ideas.) and making a couple of fairly reasonable guesses.
Yea as much as the shadow of mordor/war games feel like breaking the original lore they fit into the canon pretty neatly once you think about it. They just expanded it a little and nestled there own lore in spots that were not really defined before.
The Silmarillion isn't a great read or full of good ideas? You do realize that Tolkien literally spent almost five decades of his life working on it? It was an obsession for him. He was constantly tweaking the smallest interactions in his legendarium between the most insignificant of creatures and the most important. If Tolkien himself were alive to see how his characters were malformed by these companies, he probably wouldn't allow another adaption to be made ever again...
At the end of the day, the guy provided so much source material that there is literally no conceivable reason to add to it other than base narcissism.
If you appreciate anything he did with the Lord of the Rings, you should at least read the damned book before you go trashing it.

I'd say Webber from Don't Starve is a good example. He was just a boy at one point, but then a spider ate him.
Given that his title is The Indigestible, it sort of makes sense that both boy and spider survived, boy now wearing spider as a living skin suit.
Disturbing when you think about it, though Webber doesn't really mind. Neither does the spider.
Not really a transformation, nor really a spider, but Nosk from Hollow Knight intimidated me greatly. You're like "oh man it's doing some mindbending stuff! I can see me! I'm probably gonna have to fight myself, that's cool." Then BAM! Giant horrible slime spider.

It might be pushing it to call the Mother from Dragon Age: Awakening a horrific spider transformation. Given that she's a terrifying mishmash of flesh and tentacles that is embedded in the earth around her. But she does have those legs growing out of her back and her face peels away to reveal a horrific set of mandibles. So... partial spider transformation?

@@irimac1806 Honestly? Tolkein wrote Ungoliant and Shelob as beings of magic who used spider-like forms because they liked them, and never actually said what their "true" forms were. So yeah... the game is actually right to say Shelob can take human form any time she wants.
It's the people who think she's actually a spider making Tolkein spin in his grave. :p

Entry 3: house of skulltula... Luke... he did learn his lesson. He got cursed because he was greedy about money and the act of GIVING it away to Link as a reward is proof enough that he was even willing to let go of the money he so greedily coveted in the first place. Now if he held onto that money, than yes! He would not have learned his lesson cause he still wants to keep it! But no! He gave it away dude!
The point of the curse was to teach the man that money has no value when compared to one's life, whether the risk be death or a fate worse than.
Value or Not, he still gave it away and didn't keep it so he still learned his lesson.
I do love how the dark souls games can have horrifying monster after horrifying monster after irredeemable creature, then slap you upside your murder hobo face with sad bosses as well.

I cried when I had to fight her after the DLC and she recognized you and was just trying to save her friend from making the same mistake as the first one did. T_T
Luke, I was in fact amping up my Silmarillion to combat the inclusion of Shelob in this list instead of the horrible aberration from Tomb Raider III, but then you made me laugh to the point of incoherent breakdown with the description of green Oxford and Sauron's bed, so... hats off to you, sir, you win this round. But also why is the horrible spider hybrid from the Tomb Raider III finale not included?
Aw, I went there too. Shelob is a being of magic who changes forms to whatever she wants!... she just likes being a giant spider for some reason. Her mother Ungoliant was so powerful she made Smaug look like a wimp!

By the time of the Lord of The Rings we are in the third age which by that logic must be less magic and cool than the second age and the second age is less magic and... you can see where this is going.

@@marhawkman303 Shelob did not simply choose the form of spider for some reason. She, as well as the spiders of Mirkwood, were spawned by Ungoliant mating with monstrous spiders. Even if Shelob could change her shape (which is debatable, but not impossible), her original form most likely would have been a spider, just like half-Maia Luthien had an elven form.
Side note: In dark souls, you're tasked by quelana, the only daughter not horribly disfigured to kill her sister that quelaag was protecting, it being a mercy killing as she is in tremendous pain. Thats not the worst part though. If you do take up this task and kill "the fair lady while wearing the witchs ring, you'll hear her dying words which are a mixture of confusion as to why you, who she believes is her sister quelaag, would do this. She spent her entire life in pain and in the end died in pain believing her sister had betrayed her.

I vaguely remember an arch in the Spider-Man comics where Peter's spider powers continue to mutate into an advanced form. It starts with him waking up with six arms and ends with him transforming into a 10ft tarantula.

Apologies for the necrobump a year later, just putting this here for anyone else who comes along later to find the correct game if they want to.
Steps to experience my last last few minutes:
1- Be an arachnophobe
2- Start watching this video
3- Wait for freaking spider to drop from ceiling out of nowhere for no absolute reason and on top of your key board
4- Scream and jump out of your chair and wait for someone to get rid of the spider almost that almost made your keyboard their nest
5- Continue watching while scratching all over your body and looking every direction at once

I feel unbelievably sorry for you.
I'm not a huge arachniphobe, but scratching my body feeling for a spider and looking all around when I hear the slightest noise are things I have done.

Once had a random dungeon group in Warcraft patiently wait for me to return after I typed BRB SPIDER. I expected them to kick me from the group, but they waited. Someone even told me to be safe, lol.

I never helped that family in OOT because I was too scared to actually go in that house a second time once I found out what was in it. tbf I was 7 at the time when I played OOT.

I wasn't expecting to see Spider William Birkin, but there he is.
Genius scientist, working on sensitive high-level research, seemingly killed by automatic gunfire from people who wanted to steal it,
only to put his work to use in preserving his own life at a terrible cost.
Also, I was expecting to see Driders on here somewhere. It's weird how many spider-people there actually are in fiction.
Great writing and gags in this video, a nice counterpoint to the nightmarish subject matter.
Speaking of nightmares, who remembers Dirge of Cerberus, the Oh So Edgy spin-off to Final Fantasy VII? One of the daft new villains is Nero the Sable, whose superpower lets him banish his foes into a screaming void of darkness. He can venture into the void himself, and once inside he metamorphoses into a colossal cyborg arachnid for some reason.
Arachnero isn't the most horrendous thing in the game; it's not even the most horrendous thing about Nero personally. But it is a fairly memorable spider transformation nonetheless.
Its been so long since I played that, I only remembered the other edgy guy who had those huge fights with Sephiroth in cutscenes. It was weird. Then you fight him, then he becomes a roulette thing.

If you believe in Vaati's shared Soulsborne universe theory, Patches survived the Demon Slayer remaking the nature of the world, all of the cycles the Dark Souls trilogy spans, but moving to the painted world of blood took him becoming a spider man.

Here's the question that'll REALLY bake your noodle.... "Who is Shelob's FATHER?" Like Luke said... she was BORN in Middle Earth to her mother Ungoliant... after Ungoliant forged an alliance with Morgoth. But Tolkein never explained who her father was... could it have been Morgoth himself?

While not quite so on the nose as the others here, The idea of the character Webber in Dont Starve is just horrifying. Dude was eaten by a spider as a child but survived and now just kinda has to live a weird symbiotic relationship
Of all the changes that have been made in "adapting" Tolkien's works, making Shelob a Maia (probably) who got stuck in the form of a spider is one of the more benign.
Making her in any sense good, on the other hand, is a bit of a stretch.

Man-spider was my favourite arc in the 90s Spider-man cartoon so this video makes me laugh :P Also was worried about what you'd put poor Ellen through so was happy to see she didn't narrate anything haha. That Hunt: Showdown one really was something else though o_O
I enjoy that the cover of that magazine says "Bushido Burrito" in Japanese. Right between Biohazard 2 and Final Fantasy VII.
The Hunt: Showdown spider reminded me of the similarly awful human spider from Dark Wood
