It's not the way the corner is cut, it's the proximity of that cut to the box edge. All boxes have that angle cut, but the newer boxes have that corner flap closer to the edge of the box.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I like the Alpha Philosopher's stone better and then the 1st print beta. Its hard to tell from watching this but it looks too yellow....like the printer wasn't keeping an eye on the saturation. I think the original art is more gold and bronze in tone than yellow. I think Erik is going to have his hands full keeping color consistent with the printer they are using. Regardless, I think the speculation on this game is nuts right now. Paying more for "summer sorcery" seems crazy. I'm convinced consistent color is going to be a problem for as long as they print in China.
Is there a link to get boxes with this specific saturation? Genuinely curious. Opened 9 beta boxes and had a range of finishes. Matte, glossy, undersaturated, oversaturated- all over. It’d be nice to have some consistency.
That's basically what I agreed with in another comment. Printers in China (generally speaking) have terrible quality control and color is all over the place. I've been working with printers in China for decades. Hopefully Sorcery has some sort of quality control in place to get card color more consistent going forward.
@@mattstrott753The counterfeits will be an issue but overall they have control over the consistency. They bought a print shop in China so they're not just paying for press time. All of these choices have been deliberate, I don't like them but they aren't mistakes.
Differences so subtle based on wave of release/print run will not be very sought after in the future as personal preference plays a large role in what we find to be subjectively better looking.
The differences between printer saturations probably won't mean anything long term. Card games have print runs in multiple regions/companies/etc these days and have these same minor differences from saturation to card stock/textures all the time and the markets generally don't care. I think summer magic was only a thing because it's controlled by an individual or small group? That, and it's a rare print run from the 90s which will also be completely different than anything from now in term of volume, nostalgia, and so on.
Value differennces in cards are caused by limited print runs. Misprints are limited because it's something the company tries to stop doing. Can you imagine if only 1 out of 10000 foil Magic cards were pringles? Some people would pay hundreds of dollars for a foil that wouldn't lie flat. What an alternate universe!!
@@chesterfieldthe3rd929 yea I get ya, maybe it was the fact most gsme stores never even heard of it besides two. And the fact the creators said they don’t have any intention for making a competitive scene. I hope it takes off its great
If this is the new print quality going forward and more beta is printed later on then its possible the original print colors will be more scarce and demand more premium long term. Sweet video, awesome seeing a detailed comparison of the 3.
All this caring about rarity of this minor detail vs that minor detail (like what Greek letter is printed on the bottom of the card) is so cancerous. I can't imagine caring about that shit. I am trading my alpha cards down for beta and using the cash to buy AL. When I play at stores, absolutely NO ONE will notice what version of the card I am playing, nor will they ask.
Wow. New print looks great. One of my biggest complaint with Sorcery is the print quality. I hope we see a full run of Beta at this quality, or at least AL matches it. I have to imagine this is a new print as opposed to a release of existing stock. Now my real question is of this came from the normal factory, or an alternative printer. Yeah though, hopefully people don't rip themselves off chasing these prints.
I am confused on the whole "notch" thing. All of my Beta boxes have that notch going back to release day last year. Is it a smaller notch on the Asia boxes? To my eyes that's the only thing that might have been different.
Hell yea I just looked at the 3 boxes I got from Rudy’s kit and they all look like the one you are showing. So these have the Louis Premium!! Let’s gooo!!!
Would have been nice to show the backs. The biggest issue will be if the backs are even slightly different, everyone like yourself playing in clear sleeves will have to switch to opaque sleeves.
They need to get their printers out of china. This is great for counterfeiting. Not being standardized is extremely bad in my opinion. There was a game that I left because they wanted to reprint to the moon so we’ll see if this is moon level.
It is incorrect to compare the saturation and print quality changes to "Summer Magic". I would compare this to the saturation differences in Theros: Beyond Death. Compare the saturation values between Thassa's Oracle printed in Japan and printed in the US / Belgium. NO ONE is collecting deeper saturation Thassa's Oracle. I have 2 of each and they are WORTH exactly the same. I like the saturated ones better, but I don't confuse my preference with financial value of the cards. In conclusion, there is no difference in the financial value between deeper saturated Sorcery:Contested Realm cards and their slightly less saturated counterparts. Interesting video though. Thanks for the info!!
No hate towards Sorcery, but the saturation on these new Beta Boxes is what i wished my Beta boxes looked like, if they had been that deep in color........I'd love this game even more. But sadly I have the washed out Beta cards, still love them but....those new ones, absolute fire.
Ha. You know how many refunds and returns we get from pre release print magic because of inconsistency people think they are fake. I don’t agree with your take on my video attitude as I’ve never really complained about that.
Do you do anything but comment negativity and nonsense? I don’t see how you can live a fun life this way. Magic doesn’t give a single solitary fuck anymore, doesn’t mean you have to take it out on Sorcery and those who play and talk about it. Seriously, find something else to do
It's not damming but I agree it's not great to have this many versions (makes it that much easier to fake). It takes a long time to dial in print settings and consistency is difficult. So far all of these prints have been deliberate choices by Sorcery and we haven't seen any terrible mistakes aside from roller marks and mis-cuts here and there.
@onewhoplaysgames7489 I'm not a fan of this game or its approach. No one can be critical of it because their fanbse seems to take it personally, which is why it will fail.
This is complete horsesh!t from Sorcery, just awful for their quality control. They should have moved one greek letter if their printer was going to change of be inconsistent in print quality/style. Introducing another layer of variation to a product that is not even official out of beta is really a crappy thing to do to collectors.
Not sure about all that, maybe but this was a choice by Sorcery. So far there haven't been maybe qc issues beyond normal roller marks and mis-cuts. Sorcery have consciously been changing the prints to get something dialed in. I don't like that there are now 3 versions of prints but it's a small company with a tiny fanbase so it will work out over time

Does the saturation affect the backside?
Are you selling any of the new beta boxes?
Differences so subtle based on wave of release/print run will not be very sought after in the future as personal preference plays a large role in what we find to be subjectively better looking.
Nah, as long as a version is significantly rarer than another it’ll be more valuable

Hey I’m curious if sorcery is a dead game? It’s my first tcg I’ve ever played and love it. But it doesn’t seem to have caught on
It just started lol. After Arthurian Legends it will be ALOT more visible.
@@chesterfieldthe3rd929 yea I get ya, maybe it was the fact most gsme stores never even heard of it besides two. And the fact the creators said they don’t have any intention for making a competitive scene. I hope it takes off its great
The Beta box that I purchased from Rudy's second promo has that corner cut that you described.

Is there any place to buy Sorcery in the EU? TCG Player's euro equivalent, Cardmarket, doesn't have a Sorcery section.
The contrast is better. That's the term your looking for
it's just over-saturated lmao

Haine from Wizard's Den did an excellent video explaining the differences, using his usual scientific methods. :) Recommend watching it.
Second the haine video. It’s much better than this one 😂

I personally like the newer print. Curious to see how this plays out and how much was printed?
The Beta foils looked good but the normal cards were awful! 😅
I'm glad they're improving it but I haven't held onto any Beta because of that.
OMG! Spire Lich! you just cracked one of my favourite cards!! (same value but awesome)
💯 agree that this "version" of pstone will be more... sought after. But in terms of scarcity... yeah. This is NOT codename: Edgar.
Good stuff
Did they go from RGB to CMYK? Who knows, guys?
Would have been nice to show the backs. The biggest issue will be if the backs are even slightly different, everyone like yourself playing in clear sleeves will have to switch to opaque sleeves.
How do you buy these!?
Reach out to me on discord I have some :)

Alpha foils were WAAAYYY better. Not sure why they changed it.
The second print foils are better. I will probably pay a premium for second print foil philo stone, but have to find one first.
Alpha looks better imo.
The inconsistencies are damming. If this was an mtg product, Louie would have titled this video, "WOTC can't get it right"

@KitchenTableTCG Sorry for expecting better quality from a company that only releases ONE set a year.

@le.med: lmfao get a life
dont know or care about magic still Summer Beta
OMG!! Summer Beta > Beta > Alpha. Only alpha speculators will try to convince you otherwise.
