  • Part of the 6,000-mile journey around America's Great Loop includes two open ocean cruises, and the longest is here. We are crossing from the forgotten shores of Florida's panhandle to the West Coast. There is no longer enough depth to cruise near the shore like most of our ICW cruising, so we have been planning this leg for weeks.
    Thanks for watching!
    Cheers from the Loop,
    Jennifer and Elliot

    ABOUT US
    Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
    The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
    Thank you for following us along our journey!

    Great video.. but I'm not sure why everyone thinks crossing that part of the Gulf is such a big deal especially in a boat that big. I have been fishing the Gulf for 10 years out of a 25' Hydra sport going out on overnighters sleeping on bean bags over a 100 miles out at the floaters. We have been caught in many storms and just rode it out. We have been in 3 to 5 seas and it was uncomfortable but we never felt unsafe. We did have to get behind the floater rig Boomvang for about 10 hours so it would break the waves. It is 90 miles out from Freeport in 6000 ft of water.

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  6 месяцев назад

      The gulf crossing is a big deal because it can get very rough, very fast if you do not choose a weather window. You are over 40 miles from any shore (in the overnight crossing) and not in a channel, meaning there won't be boats around. Will your boat sink? Probably not unless something dire happens, however, will it be extremely stressful? Sure! Also keep in mind that the winter typically has more winds and less good weather so its different than other parts of the year. In general, if you consider open bodies of water to not be a big deal, is a dangerous point of view. All the time, water should be respected. Anything can happen out there!

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  6 месяцев назад

      Also consider that you've been doing it for 10 years, you know what to expect. Most Loopers only do this once, and not in the best season, those two things are very different.

    I'm a big fan of y'alls channels and I'm glad to see a have grown so big with subscribers, wow. They come faster the more you get, so I know you'll make 100k before you know it. I'm having a problem staying subscribed to your channel. Almost every time I log on and check your channel, I see that I'm not subscribed. Then I resubscribe, only to check a few days later and find myself not subscribed again. I waited to send this message until I'd confirmed that I wasn't doing anything different or wrong, but I'm still having this experience with your channel. I have been checking other channels I'm subscribed to, and nothing like this is happening to me on any of the other channels. I just wanted to let yall know what is going on, and give y'all some love with these last videos as you finish your loop. I can't wait for the next stage of y'alls life in the Van, but one day I see that van public a trailerable trawler like a Ranger. You can pull it up to the Northwest and cruise to Alaska, or the northeast and cruise to Newfoundland and points east. With the great lakes and Gulf of Mexico in middle, you can get to live in the Van between the stints of boat life. I like your idea of a trailerable bo at, because you cruise to the 4 corner of America and everything in between.
    As far as my problem staying subscribed, I wonder what it is and if anyone else is experiencing this. It doesn't seem like your numbers aren't rising as fast as they were, but I might be wrong. I just wonder what this issue is?

    • @richardstever3242
      @richardstever3242 6 месяцев назад

      I suspect they would say that the North Channel of Georgian Bay would be the most beautiful cruising water but living there would be a different story. It is so cold and icy right now. My home waters are in the south end and snowmobiles dominate the scene in the winter.

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  6 месяцев назад

      We see our selves in so many of the places so we couldn't really narrow it down much. As Richard said, the North Channel was incredible - a great place for a cottage. The Tennessee River was incredible for its location close to family so that would be another option. Otherwise, Oriental, North Carolina was a super cool small town.

      Do you mean other than crossing a large open piece of water, where we had to meticulously plan the weather and crossing for weeks? You may not understand, but it being so smooth and relaxing was exactly the outcome we worked so hard to achieve! Many loopers do not have similar gulf crossing experiences, just because of how hard and in some ways lucky, you have to be when doing this crossing with these types of boats.
