by the graphics, soundtrack and level design i can tell this was probably made by a sonic fan. love how it turned out.
Lots of little Sonic nods, like the results screen has spiky graphics top and bottom, a ranking system, and the vanishing panels

Because in their old different games, some has different rules and different things. In Mario Maker, among different styles doesn't make you feel like you are playing Mario Maker but rather making you feel like you are playing an old Mario game with some minor to big updates

I like those really wide blocks that make a bunch of coins when you hit them. It feels like something Nintendo legitimately would add. Hell, this whole thing feels like something Nintendo would legitimately make.

This shows up Nintendo for how lazy they've been with re-releases and to an extent NSMB, this fan project looks beautiful and more appealing than any of Nintendo's retro offerings!

NSMB is the laziest series ever, if they put in it half of the attention and resources they put in their 3D titles, it would've been so much more than it is.

@@rasta7655 True but the last big fangame they removed, AM2R, then lead to them making a remake of Metroid 2. They use fangames to spot when fans want a game, at times. It's the one and only positive aspect of this. If they take notice, they "take notice". That this is what fans want. Or maybe that was coincidental luck... Either way, they're asses.
@@TailsClock Nintendo removed am2r not because they were making a metroid 2 remake. While it may of been a small part of it most of the reason they took it down likely was because it was a free way people could play a game of theirs.

This is all I've ever wanted: a new 2D Mario game with a unique 2D-animated artstyle.
That's why hopefully Nintendo just leaves it alone and doesn't cease & desist them. It's frustrating that for all the things we can love about Nintendo, the company often won't give fans what they want (e.g., back catalog on eShop) and seems determined to stop anyone and everyone who *does* try to fill in those gaps, no matter how well-made it is or even if it's not being profited on.
This reminds me of those old Mario Games where you’d collect stars at the end of Levels to progress to get to the Boss whether it’d be Bowser, or King Boo. The memories huh?
The way this game combines a health bar with the power-up system is something I've wanted out of a Mario game for years.

wow the sprite work is on point. the added detail like Mario bumping his head on the blocks and how he looks upwards when clinging on walls.
Oh I am LOVING this soundtrack. And the way the green paratroopas are just loving life

I love how the intro of each stage shows mario do a pose, then the black screen goes away to reveal the level, just like A Hat in Time did! Such nice attention to detail.

My problems with this version :
Some of the updated graphics aren't the best. For instance I don't like the new shell hitting enemy's anamation and burning the enemies animation. (I dont know why I just don't...) I also think they should of kept the going through a warp pipe animation and used the other one for only going into the level's...
The first level I wish was more like the old version. Let me say my reasoning just in case mors or anyone in the team is looking at this comment. The 2018 first level is clean and nice while in my opinion the 2020 version plays more like a lost level's version. The 2018 version is less compact making it easier for the eye to enjoy the pixel art while in the 2020 version it's more complex and makes it a lot harder to see the little details. I found myself enjoying the 2018 a lot more then the 2020 version and really hope they consider going back to it.
The other level's are fine imo.
I like the old fire flower a lot more. I think it made the game slightly more challenging and fun in the 2018 version. It was changed probably because of the lost level's feel to this new demo has and how hard it would of been if they did keep it in.
I don't want to sound greedy but no Green Mario? I'll even be fine with Bowsette just give me another character to play with!
Also yes I'm one of the people who actually want Bowsette in the game. (Go ahead leave your comments.)
Almost everything in this game feels official but that ending result screen just feels so lazy. If they did ever fix it they should definitely shouldn't make Mario come up to the screen. (Like it was in the old one.) He should just stay there after he does his backflip.
Ok this is more of a question then a complaint. Did they get rid of the somersault? Since I remember doing this big jump thing that wasn't the somersault. And if they did that'll just be ignoring for me since I liked it but all well.
They had the screen showing you the control's but I found other people who played this getting confused. It'd be nice to have a level that show's you how to slide etc etc.
And that's all the thing's I don't like about this new demo. Everything else is perfectly fine. Most of these thing's don't matter at all either really. I mostly just have a problem with the difficulty of the first world. I know I sound critically harsh since flashback went on break for a little while and also coding is hard. I'm also very aware the flashback team didn't really like the 2018 level's so I understand if they never even use them again.
The art is great and all, but man that MUSIC IS FUNKY and I love it!
i really wish that 2D mario games were more like this because this definitely makes them feel more exciting as 2D mario games are a bit boring

The only thing I truly dislike about this is how shrill the sound effect is for the disappearing platforms. Beyond that, this is an absolute treasure of a game.
I would have greatly preferred that Super Star Saga be recreated with this kind of art style. A bit more room for situational slapstick

Remember, while Nintendo's pumping out 60 dollar emulations and shady business practices, people are making beautiful fan games for free and encourage people to support the official release.
Very fun and pretty-looking game. Definitely more challenging than the original Mario game, as turtles dropping off the ceiling come much later than the 2nd level. Only critiques are that the coin counter at the end of the level is pretty slow, and stacks of goombas should be more fun to ground pound in one go.
I can groove to the remixed main theme all day...
