I'm now off to re-watch all my Atmos 4k movies. 😂
I went straight to the lounge put in Top Gun Maverick with Atmos with the volume down and went through and turned this off. If someone can give me the reasoning for this option and others to only come up when an Atmos source is actually playing I would love to know! It seems insane to me that such an important setting would not only be on by default, But there should be somewhere in bold letters for every new user of an amp with this software to see! Hey techno dad, read up on what dialnorm is, and how it’s a part of loudness mgt. it’s not compressing the sound. If the compression setting is off with loudness mgt on there is no compression. There is metadata from the source that controls what I’m talking about.

Is there a hidden selector for choosing between 4K: Standard or 4K: Enhanced on a Denon X6700H or Marantz SR8015 as is on my Onkyo TX-NR787. Because I’m in the process of returning the Denon because the video appeared soft on my Sony XBR65X950G which wasn’t present with the Onkyo. I noticed on your display of a Denon menu in this video that it appears to be sharper then what I had. 2:57
Yeah I’ve been telling people on the forums if they use Denon or Marantz to turn Loudness Management off for years. I think Dolby requires its default setting to be on. When it’s on the default setting of Dynamic Compression is Auto which means it defaults to whatever is flagged in the Dolby Audio data which I believe most encoders are set to high. I think it’s a big reason why some think Dolby is inferior to other formats. The default settings lower the volume due to Dialog Normalization and reduced dynamic range due to the high flag for Dynamic Compression. I find most Dolby tracks to be very dynamic with Loudness Management set to off.
Thankfully it was already off. Thought this was the new “dynamic volume” at first, but I see that’s still a separate setting. I like that one set to Low for regular TV watching.
I have a stereo system with a 2 channel integrated amplifier. Thinking of getting an AVR with preouts to add .1 channel and increase dialogue levels without adding a center channel. Will dialogue enhancer or dialogue normalization correction offset features help? Thanks!
Apologies if you mentioned in a video i missed, but what is the model # of your older klipsch speaker on the left side and what do you have it assigned as? Video is great advice, but think my X4500 had this off out the box, but great advice- especially for anyone who maybe bought used gear where someone did weird 💩 to the settings.
Hi! That was just being used to give my height speaker on a stick some extra height. Those speakers are over 15 years old. Here's a video - ruclips.net/video/h7NWteMPO5A/видео.html - go to 1:35 in that video
What am I doing wrong please? By streaming I have plenty of Dolby stuff, including Atmos. How do I input them in order to turn Loudness Management off then Dynamic Compression off. If I am viewing them and then press the Setup button on the remote of my Marantz NR1711, go to Audio, I don't see LM. Do I need an input for the signal connected direct to the AVR? Shouldn't the signals from the TV be going to the AVR for processing via the HDMI eARC? I do not play BluRays.
This is like how on TVs, you have to run them in SDR, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG modes to properly calibrate them. In the web world, we have this concept of tabs. They allow you to switch between various settings screens; it'd be nice if I could modify Atmos settings without playing Atmos content. IMAX Enhanced is the same! Does this also enable for DTS:X? What about Auro-3D mode?
Oh yeah, it is annoying. It’s the same with Auro-3D, you need that type of content playing in order to make adjustments to the surround mode. I get what they are doing, but it’s still a PITA.
Hi, I have a Denon AVR-X3700H. I'm having issues making adjustments to get max volume because I'm having trouble getting the on-TV screen display to work. Please help.
Hi Techno, i wanted to ask your opinion, here goes. I have a Denon x6700 (always had onkyo for years but the Denon is real good, not sure if its better than the flagship 5009 Onkyo) but iam enjoying it. I have 5.1 M&K 150s, 150 mk2 sub and ss150 surrounds. Love them, best AV purchase ever, had them 15 years now and still amaze me. If i wanted atmos heights what brand and type if i went 2 heights or would you go 4??? Cant afford m&k for my heights man🙂👍👍 kind Regards Ben UK
Great video! Hmm, I only have a 5.1 system, but my Denon 4700 does display ATMOS when playing an ATMOS Blu-ray disc. Would this tweak apply to my situation? I will say, a regular DVD will generally sound much more dynamic in my system than Blu-ray discs.
@@TechnoDad Thanks, I did that. It seems like my center speaker sounds better now on all multi-channel content. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part!
Hi Techno Dad, WOW, turned off loudness compression, you’ve just transformed my Denon A110 and svs ultra/elevations/dual sb3000, 7.2.8, I can hear Atmos now, so I have to watch my 4k blu rays again.
How old of a Denon AVR would this apply? Mine dates back a ways. It's the AVR-S720W I bought somewhere in the mid-20teens. I'm using Polk Audio speakers in a 5.1 setup in my smallish apt. I would need to go through the settings but I don't recall seeing it. . Also, from time to time, my left surround channel cuts out while all the others are fine. It's been going on for several months. i thought it was oxidized speaker wire because it was pretty green so I replaced it. It seemingly worked but not for long. It's frustrating having to restart it or go the audio test setting, crank up the volume until it kicks in, then drop it back down again. I'm not an electronics troubleshooter on that level. It could be a FET, some other processor, or even a circuit board trace. It replaced a Yamaha RX-V867 when the sound would go completely out sometimes when using the DVR. I don't remember if it happened when watching DVDs. I was so long ago but it may have had to do with the circuit that handles the HDMI inputs.
Please help me i bought the second amplificatore denon and Onkyo subwoofer not working at all while the subwoofer is working on 4 ohm + 4 ohm not 8 ohm thanks for the advice to us across all videos from Italia
I've had at least 3 different Denon/Marantz receivers and this setting has ALWAYS been OFF by default. Are Sound United are sending out regional configurations ? Or are people just switching it on without knowing what it does.
I have a Denon X4400H, I set it to off. I even set Cinema EQ to off. But didn't notice anything different. Played 2 movies on atmos parts back and forth toggling with settings on and off in comparison but didn't hear anything different.
I guess I need to ask what about if you're not running atmos you only got seven speakers hooked up are you able to get in this setting I guess when I get home I'm off work I'll check it out

I noticed on your display of a Denon menu in this video that it appears to be sharper then what I had.

I find most Dolby tracks to be very dynamic with Loudness Management set to off.
under "surround parameter" there's only the option to turn on or off the sub, nothing else.
Thankfully it was already off. Thought this was the new “dynamic volume” at first, but I see that’s still a separate setting. I like that one set to Low for regular TV watching.
Yes, dynamic volume helps with regulating volume levels, especially for TV commercials.
Had this all the time “on” from now it’s off. Thx m8!
You're welcome.
I have a stereo system with a 2 channel integrated amplifier. Thinking of getting an AVR with preouts to add .1 channel and increase dialogue levels without adding a center channel.
Will dialogue enhancer or dialogue normalization correction offset features help? Thanks!
Thank you Techno Dad!
Any time!
Dad, you truly PASTA test!! (A little humor).
Hello, just turned this off on my new denon. Do I need to use the setup mic again or not?
YIKES! Techno Dad does it again!!! I've had my Denon for over a year and thought It was properly set up. Thank you my friend. Keep up the great work.
Glad to help!
Turn off HDMI-CEC on tv then you should get on screen display, then turn HDMI-CEC back on when you have finished
Mi e x4700h only offers Low Frequency Effects under thecAudio/Surround Parameter.
WHAT DO I DO?
Loving all thr new Vids.
Thank you, Davon.
Hi, please Denon avr or marantz avr which one is good for music under $600 please help me and thanks.
But wait, how do you actually set new db levels? Using the pink noise from the denon receiver or the pink noise from the disc you are playing?
Jesus, the difference in my 4800 is enormous!! Do I need to run the calibration again with this setting Off?
Yeah, probably…
Hi how about Onkyo AVR should the Loudness Management be off?
thanks for tip, will have to check my Denon
Giddy-up!
Hi! I would go 4 heights if possible. I wouldn’t know what speakers would match the M&Ks…other than M&Ks. Can you get used M&Ks?
Great video! Hmm, I only have a 5.1 system, but my Denon 4700 does display ATMOS when playing an ATMOS Blu-ray disc. Would this tweak apply to my situation? I will say, a regular DVD will generally sound much more dynamic in my system than Blu-ray discs.
Hi! I would pop in one of those Atmos blu ray discs and make the change. It won’t affect all your content, but at least it will change the Atmos ones.
@@TechnoDad Thanks, I did that. It seems like my center speaker sounds better now on all multi-channel content. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part!
Game changer. 👍🏾
I think so!
Thanks for sharing I have to check my settings for that.
No problem 👍
@TechnoDad I have the Denon x4500h and it do not have that setting. Thanks anyway.
Hi Techno Dad, WOW, turned off loudness compression, you’ve just transformed my Denon A110 and svs ultra/elevations/dual sb3000, 7.2.8, I can hear Atmos now, so I have to watch my 4k blu rays again.
Awesome! Great news!
I have a Marantz SR6013 and sadly i dont see this, all i see is the cinema EQ? I have a 7.2.4 system?
I didn't notice much, if any, difference between loudness management On and Off in a 7.2.4 setup with the X3700H
Will try it when I get home
Woot!
Thank you! This worked for me.
Nice!
Not on by default
Please help me i bought the second amplificatore denon and Onkyo subwoofer not working at all while the subwoofer is working on 4 ohm + 4 ohm not 8 ohm thanks for the advice to us across all videos from Italia
I've had at least 3 different Denon/Marantz receivers and this setting has ALWAYS been OFF by default. Are Sound United are sending out regional configurations ? Or are people just switching it on without knowing what it does.
I’m not sure! Could be regional, could be a random update that turns it on.
I have a Denon X4400H, I set it to off. I even set Cinema EQ to off. But didn't notice anything different. Played 2 movies on atmos parts back and forth toggling with settings on and off in comparison but didn't hear anything different.
It’s harder to hear with normal content. I used pink noise because it’s easier to notice the difference as it’s all frequencies at once.
Ok Done but do you have to re-calibrate the speakers using the SPL meter ???
It's up to you, but I probably would.
Thanks very helpful
So did you have the compression on the whole time you've had that receiver?
Yes…
I guess I need to ask what about if you're not running atmos you only got seven speakers hooked up are you able to get in this setting I guess when I get home I'm off work I'll check it out
Are you ever using Atmos blu rays?
@@TechnoDad I will have to look at the Blu-ray movies I have the new Star Trek and Transformers I did not know if the Marantz 8015 has to be set on a certain selection I just got it a week ago
You're the Best TD 🎉🔊🎊 Thanks!
Thank you for watching!
I will change this on my Marantz 6014.
Nice!
I'm gonna have to check this on my Pioneer. Ive noticed atmos is always quiet. Especially on dialog
Yes, please do! Also, let me know where it is in the Pioneer menu. I don't have my Pioneer anymore...
Its under audio adjust in the dolby section. Mine was already off.
I'm not real thrilled with my pioneer in general. Was hoping it was part of the issue.
What is the Best Sounding Value 7.2 AVR you would recommend ?
Are you looking to go Atmos with a 5.1.2 setup? Also, what other features are you looking for?
@@TechnoDad yes, 5.1.2 atoms is this okay. I am in a small 12x12ft room. Does not take allot to over power this room with sound. So I only have room for bookshelf speakers i can hang on walls. I want some good value budget speakers to handle 100 watts I think. With good clarity and sound separation. Also a good avr ( denon or marantz ) I am on a limited budget so I want the best sounding products for money. I currently have a Onkyo tx-nr5060 avr that I purchased at Costco but I don’t like its sound. I want better sound quality and I am using some cheap Dayton bookshelf speaker I purchased 10 years ago for surrounds. I have 2 klipsch 12-inch subs which is enough for this small room. So I want better bookshelf speakers and avr
I leave Loudness Management turned off on my Pioneer receiver too
Just to clarify, this is only for Atmos? Or does it. Impact Dolby 5.1 and other formats, too?
Atmos only...BUT...it's really whatever surround mode you have one. If you have DD 5.1, or DTS, or Auro-3D, play content that uses the surround parameter and go into that menu. You will find different settings depending on the surround mode.
@@TechnoDad Very interesting, thanks!!!
Hi.. should I keep Cinema eq off as well..?
Hey im using Onkyo RZ 50 and i was watchinh Reached in tat.. but after calibration with dirac i dint even hear any sound frm my surrounds . As for now im usiing 5.0 set up ! I kept more decibles too. This s be becoz of lossy audio thru prime video or any setting i need to look up !?! Kindlt clarify
That’s pretty odd. I had the Pioneer version and it was able to run 7.1.4 with Dirac.
I bought a cinema 40 and always thought the volume on atmos was off .. Now I know why😂 thx for the tip
Giddy-up’
Where did you find the setting? I have a cinema 50
found it nvm ty
@@McRibHunter Nice!
I did switch it off on my cinema 50.. and wow the beginning of Bladerunner opened up even more.. :-) very good tip!
Well I'll be a sun of a beeeotch.... That's a horse of a different color! Thank You. Mr techno Pappi and Mr Magic Beens for your tutelage!
You are very welcome!
That was a great tip. Thanks
No problem!
have a ? to ask so i have a pair rp 1400 does it matter if the sub are inside and tower are or the other way which is better
this is off topic, but when I look out to decide to buy an amp or an AVR, it's boggling the mind that an amp, like the Bluesound Powernode Edge at $649, providing less wattage power, having less ports and speaker outputs, costs more than an AVR at $300 that could supply more watts
