  • Today I’m getting some beds ready for planting. Here in a few weeks our season will begin and we will be none-stop until next fall. We are thankful to have an outlet for this source of high quality nitrogen.

Yes sir. Great video. Can you tell us, how you plant the rows of plants into the beds? Do you start seedlings in pots in the hoop houses?
    I love your farm.

I use a jig with certain spacing to dibble a hole, then I go back and drop the transplants in and cover, super quick and easy!

What kind of mulch are you putting On top of the chicken litter in your rows?

It’s ground leave litter and wood chips aged a year or so.

Do you have any problems with antibiotics being in the chicken feed?

Haven’t noticed anything, but the composting process temperature will usually dispose of any issue with residual feed.

what is the precaution you take to avoid bringing "forever chemicals" on to your property. i am currently sourcing manure and more or less been asking if the animal feed has been sprayed or the bedding. a lot of people don't know. i am thinking of doing a small area of guarding and testing manure first to control any contamination that might take place. not sure what other options are out there. thank you in advance.

Each farmer has to keep a list of chemicals used on the farm for a specific grower, I have never heard of any poultry farmer using a forever chemical on the farm, not sure the grower’s processor would allow it. They are inspected regularly also.

Would be interested what the difference is between cow manure and chicken litter. Which be the best?

Cow manure will work fine, I’ve used it but with any manure make sure it is mature and not fresh-or as in the case of chicken hot as we call it. If there is a difference I couldn’t tell, chicken manure is more readily available for me. I didn’t grind the cow manure though, I just blended it into the row with the tiller. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Cow manure has a chance of containing persistent herbicides and chicken litter tends to be more potent and contains more nitrogen
