After listening to Stuart Fillinghams reviews, I purchased my Intercepted the week before Christmas and could not be happier. I have owned over 14 motorcycles over the last 40 years from Hondas to Harleys, Ironhorse Chopper, several Triumphs and a Moto Guzzi, Ducati Multistrada and several Japanese bikes to name a few. I'm at an age in my life where I just want to go for a ride.....I don't want a key Fob or mode switch, I just want to jump on a classic and go for a ride. Northern California is made for this and I utilize as many back roads as I can. The price was incredibly low for a this Interceptor 650 and truly the best motorcycle deal I have ever made. I've already started to add accessories and upgraded the mufflers to the S&S slip ons which made the bike sound perfect. Not too loud, just the throaty rumble that makes me smile when I back of the gas.

I'm a 66 year old American and I grew up in the era when a Triumph 650cc Bonneville and a 883cc Harley XLCH were considered the fastest bikes around and the ones everybody wanted. I remember seeing small black and white ads for RE Interceptors in magazines but never saw one in person back then even though I lived in a fairly large city, San Diego, CA. I ended up owning Triumphs, Harleys, and assorted Japanese bikes, but to this day I still feel the old series 1 & 2 Interceptors are the best looking bikes of that era. I'm happy to see RE bringing back the Interceptor and I'm considering getting one actually. If I could change something on the new models I would of course want a kick starter added (I'm old school) and I would gladly pay another $100 for the bikes if they would do away with the flange around the gas tank, but other than those two relatively minor things it's a beautiful bike. I've owned much bigger and faster bikes but in the end I have to say my favorite bike I've ever owned was a '66 Triumph Bonneville, fast, nimble, and handled nice. Let me add one more thing, nice honest review, thumbs up!

An interesting comment, supposedly the law re motor bikes was changed at some stage sayng that any bike marketed in the USA must have left hand gear change [well it's logical if you drive on the right] I wonder if your 66 Bonny had right hand gear change in the traditional British style [even old CZ and Jawa had right hand gears in the old? days, odd for continental bikes].

Great review. I agree with almost every bit of what you've said here. I rode one, made a review video that fits your description of most initial impression videos, and then went back to the shop the next business day and bought the bike. It is phenomenal for the price, and good at a couple thousand dollars more. I've got 80mi (about 139km) on the clock two days after picking it up, and plan on the first service by the end of a fortnight.
This bike is outstanding! Enjoyed your video, and thank you much.

Brilliant video Stuart and very entertaining. This is the bike Triumph should have made years ago. Kawasaki tried with the W650 but failed to capture the essence of the classic British twin. Now enter Royal Enfield and take centre stage. This is what us classic lovers have been waiting for. It seems simplicity is indeed the ultimate sophistication.

Kwaks W650/800 recreation of their own take on a 65 Beezer, was arguably a more authentic bike than any Bloor Triumph, and also this RE (being manufactured by the same manufacturer of the original, so to speak) and is a superb machine, but jeez it's expensive, even used
This RE hits the spot because of its price point, right in there with the Guzzi 750 retros
I'm holding my wallet until I see what happens with less restrictive pipes and filters etc, Ideally I'd like 55 to 60 hp

    • @timjohnson1199
      @timjohnson1199 4 года назад

I'm considering the w800 but the price on this one is something to think about.
The dealership availability is an issue as I've never seen a Royal Enfield dealer. The Kaw is pretty sweet and I actually know someone who has one that I drool over. Too bad my present bike (a 2013 NC700X) is still in great but two bikes are almost necessary, right? And, I'd like to have three for a nice balance. Just have to move further south to enjoy them more. Presently in the top of The Peoples Republic of Illinois.

I'm perhaps the wrong one to give an honest opinion, due to the fact it was love at first sight when the first pictures were released, and I'm still besotted with it.
I find it relatively comfortable, but that's the term, relatively.
I was weaned on caff racers, the first time round, when we used to mount the handlebars about 2" above the front axle..........its amazing your tolerance levels when your 17!
That having been said, I just did a 170 mile trip, only stopping to top the tank up, and no problems or aches and pains.
But maybe not for everyone is a fair point.
I went for the R as the price differential made the choice a no brainer given the spec of the R version.
As I say, loved it at first sight, love it still.

I never really paid much attention to these bikes. I went last weekend to a manufacturer's motorcycle show. There were several different Royal Enfield motorcycles there and they were all just my style. Loved the INT650, the Continental GT, and even the Meteor 350. They look like motorcycles made of metal. It's like riding a 60's motorcycle, but brand new, with fuel injection, ABS, and a warranty. Amazing!

Well, what a surprise! My experience with Royal Enfield has been limited to the 1960s when British bikes were the best. However, at that time my opinion, and that of my friends, was that they were unreliable, much worse than BSA, but not nearly as much fun. It was Triumph Bonnevilles and Norton Atlases for us, and an occasional Matchless. While it doesn't sound like this bike will win any impromptu street races, at least it sounds like it will spend more time on the road than in the garage. And at an affordable price.

I really like my interceptor. The only issues I have with it are:
    - Both gauges get very noticeable condensation in cold weather. This seems very common and must be down to excessive humidity when they were built and sealed.
    - It would be nice to have a clock, even if it was not visible all the time and was just an option you could cycle through to on the LCD screen. A gear indicator would also be nice but not essential.
-The C spanner in the factory toolkit is the most hopeless tool I have come across. It's stamped shape seems almost deliberately designed to want to ride out of the rear shock slots and damage their aluminium adjusting ring. I don't know how they got this so wrong.

    • @frodobaggins2852

Yes you are right for the most... India is humid...where it is manufactured.... And recently royal enfield collabbed with google to create a turn by turn navigation system and connected features for their new 350cc cruiser called meteor and also updated their 400cc offroader himalayan with the same updated consoles... So it might make its way into the 650 twins as well.
