Yes, Britain and India! Inextricably intertwined love-hate relationship! Can't separate the two! I'm a yank, I quite fancy this bike. I'm 68.
Your enthusiasm is contagious going to my local dealer to try one out.
Missenden Flyer! Your review on the Royal Enfield classic 500 is partly the reason I purchased my own! Now I have an urge to own a Royal Enfield Interceptor! Cheers!😁
It's made from metal by blokes with spanners!! James May couldn't have put it any better! Loving the RE. Red and Black for me I think....
James May would've probably had it crushed for 'entertainment purposes! '
@@oxcart4172 No! Clarkson definitely. Not May. He's a bit of a Royal Enfield buff.
@@simonthomas5367
I'm seen him shoot holes in an old French jeep thing wondering why it wasn't bullet proof!
James May ha - checks out!
I just ordered mine in ravishing red last week. ❤
A true Retro Retro! Now that's what I want! Great video as usual and thanks for posting
Loving my RE Classic 500 2017 model, now I think I need to add an Interceptor 650 so it won't be lonely in the garage. Thanks for your series of great reviews!
Wonderful, 1970s biking nostalgia. A great round up of the bike too.
So glad you gave honest impressions. I have noticed two bike reviewers have bought the Interceptor and one bought the GT. Added to their two or three others in the garage. Says a lot for the FUN value in the bike and for the low dollars it costs. Thanks for your additional comments :) Still waiting for my Interceptor... :)
❤️ the RE Interceptor so much...thank you for the extra video TMF. This colour has stated to grow on me! 👊😎👍
Just read this week's MCN, and have seen you have taken the plunge and bought bike Number 5, great choice, congratulations and totally agree with your article about simple uncomplicated bikes being the most fun.
Outstanding tmf. Thank you another great review, loving your enthusiasm.. can't wait for my conti gt to arrive... still waiting.. tick tock..
Thanks for the extra video!
Great bike I put a deposit down January 2018 on one finally got one in March this year love it 😊👍
Good video TMF. Like you in my younger days I was a big Triumph fan and just found a Photo of the day I picked up my 1962 650 Bonny
Ask for ECU update in RE Service centre!! It has fixed high altitude issues for RE twins!
Booked the Interceptor 650 after watching most of your videos here. I am based out of Delhi, and yet your videos were the most comprehensive coverage of the machine. Cheers :)
Interesting to revisit these reviews. No surprise that you bought one. Looking forward the big reveal.
Me too!!!
I just bought my wife her first bike - a 2018 street twin in cranberry red - and coming from my speed triple - it is a bucket load of fun! So i now understand why people get these retro bikes! I’d love to try these RE out!
Great observations. I was so enamored with my test ride that I brought it home. Fantastic bike.
Same story here in India, it's home.
I enjoyed this review! Ultimately it is all about how a bike makes you feel. In this case you were so happy!
Agreed Peter...
TMF, I think this may be a new addition to your garage soon !!!! Great review and videos
Yes please... I'll have one. Might just be my next bike. Thanks for the reviews.
It is often said that the older we get the wiser we get.
It is good to stop and smell the roses and enjoy riding a motorcycle for the joy it gives not always for just the adrenaline rush from the speed.
In this day and age of speed cameras and radar not to mention traffic, motorcycle riding is not what it used to be, fast bikes are just too fast now, back in 1985 my GPZ 900 would do over 150 mph on the road and that was 115 HP, now we have over 200 HP, where will this madness ever stop.
Sadly bikes like the RE are like Nokia flip phones, they will only sell to people who realise that in reality that is all you need to make a phone call.
Bravo sir, well said about the truth. BTW currently Nokia is like Triumph to me as per an Indian's point of view.
Come on somebody ,You said it ✌️🤛
Carl Fogarty said years ago that road bikes are way too overpowered for most riders. He is right of course. Most 200hp machines are ridden by people with insecurities. Horsepower doesn't make up for that.
Very well might be my next bike. Great review as always. Cheers!
Excellent series on this georgrious bike, WANT!
I get to pillion on one of these to work... it goes great at "70mph" 😉 2 up. Amazing pops and bangs too 🧡🖤
There is definitely something about getting back to basics. I really enjoy taking my old BMW R90/6 out for a bit of thrashing :-)
I completely understand.
Great video😉👍🏻
Awesome review and thanks for sharing big love from Australia 😊😊😊
Thanks for watching!
Nice one tmf good reviews on this bike and I like it as well thanks danny
I think that's convinced me to order one! 👍
Which colour did you go for?
As it happens I live very close to The Bike Den in North Bushey, and I’ve been a long-time browser in there. Largely on the strength of your vids I took that very same demo bike out for an extended test ride last week over a very varied route of my own devising. I couldn’t agree more with your assessment; I was thoroughly delighted. Long story short, I’ve put my money where my delight is and ordered one in the chrome and black finish (“Glitter and Dust” is a silly name for it, I think, but it looks terrific). So thank you, Mr TMF, and long may you continue keeping the rubber side down.
I hope you told them where you saw them!
@@TheMissendenFlyer But of course! :-)
Roses are red
Violets are blue
There is always a white van
In front of you
Hahaha
Pog
As said before, possibly delivering motorcycle accessories to the local dealer ?
A white van delivered my first 125 to me, coz with just a CBT under my belt I wimped out of the 20ish mile ride from the dealers along a dual carriageway back to my home !
The van was driven by a motorcyclist, so I'd guess driven considerately of motorcyclists :)
🤔😂🤣😂🤣 definitely 👍
Reminds me of the old Norton Commando with the upswept pipes which I loved.I’ll have to give one a go for sure.Thank you TMF.
Nice little bike, but I want to see you ride that FJ1200 again!! You were seriously fangin’ it!!
My kind of bike. Any bike that puts the grin on your face is a goodun.
I have one in orange as tested. I call it "lolloping along". Great on the road. Sometimes is less is more!
How long are the intervals for valve clearances and if you do it yourself does it affect the uk warranty thanks
@@johnwright6995 have you found an answer?
@@chrisw4215 local dealer Said it would affect warranty if I did the valves a&d motocycles denbigh
He says in a different video, it's 3,000 miles for an interval service and 6,000 miles for a valve check service.
Perfect sense totally agree. Wake up triumph while you still have time ... cheers TMF
Great. Thanks. You and Stuart Fillingham (one of my other favourite bloggers) have both been very positive about this RE Interceptor. Something about it grabs my interest too. I have a fairly new T120, which is good if taking a pillion regularly, but I feel tempted to try this RE which looks like a keeper to just go out and have a blast on occasionally.
But would you keep the T120 and the Interceptor ? If I got a second bike it'd have to be quite different to one I already have. Ie a Triple or four cylinder considering the bike I am soon to collect my is a retro twin. Plus a different look.
So for me a second bike could be a Triumph Street Triple or Honda Cb650r.
karlosh - yes I’ve considered the Honda 650 which is a 4 cylinder. I had a PAN ST1300 once, 4 cylinder, but it got a bit boring after awhile. I had a XRT Tiger, but not mad about triple engines, although i recognise their engine uptake...
It's bikes like that that built the motorcycle industry. i love them too.
Just picked up my interceptor and couldn’t agree more with your review. The guy on the Honda it was a cb350s just like my first bike which the inter reminds me of so much!!
Royal Enfield are on a bit of a roll at the moment. I agree with all you have said there, would have that in a heartbeat - almost feels like it has been made specifically for me!
Buying Ravishing Red next spring for my very first bike. Can't wait!
Yep, like your reviews because they cover pretty much everything.
That's one of a few bikes you've tested that really makes me want to get my money out lol. Sat over one in Bike Treads Swindon the other day, and all I could find no to my liking was the footpegs which stick out a long way, Great for riding comfort but skin off the legs paddling it around lol. Still a brilliant bike, one day maybe. Thanks for this test ride😊
Another good'n TMF and you've certainly sold me on the Royal Enfield. I think they should give you one to keep because I think you're great report will sell them quite a few bikes.
I wish!
I enjoyed that Review
Buying one this month
You made me want it sooner honest enjoyable review
You'll love it - great bike!
Surprisably? LOL. Getting your mucking words fuddled a bit today TMF, must be the excitement of being on the Interceptor ;-)
Glad you enjoyed the RE certainly looks a great bike, slightly different bike but mirrors my feelings about recently acquired Yamaha Mt07, simple basic light bike that is a joy to ride, thanks TMF
I have been very tempted by the Interceptor as an additional bike to the stable. I think I need to get a test ride on one.
Yup bought this bike same color in India & I m enjoying every last bit of it ...
This biked topped the MCIA registration stats for naked bikes with 144 registered in UK for May alone, it also came top in the 126-650cc sector. A lot of these could be dealer demonstrators but is still a healthy number for RE. Wonder how many were registered in Indian? Good luck to RE and thanks TMF for informing us in the usual professional manner!
6000+ sold till April end, 1400 delivered / month rate. This not including orders in waiting
Perhaps I need something like this to steady me up a bit, certainly looks good.
Someone is in love :) When is your new Interceptor being delivered??? ;)
It is a lovely bike...it sounds beautifully.
I'm going to buy one now 😎
Just a suggestion - perhaps as part a bike review, you could add in the ease in which tyre pressures can be tested and tyres inflated. My V-Strom was a pig to do, had to buy a set of angled tyre valves so I could get my electronic tyre pressure gauge on the valve. It is something we should all do on a weekly basis.
Why did I subscrib to this channel...?
Bcz its TMF that's why.....
Loved it.....
Great review, £5.5k doesn't seem a lot of money for a new bike
I was in Goa a few years ago got talking a mechanic in a bike hire company and he said that the Royal Enfield reliability is fairly good ( not quite Honda C90 good) and was improving all the time
I've had a look at Itchy Boots what a great channel
Good to see you can go on a world adventure and you don't need a pair of GS's, camera crew, support vehicle and a massive budget.
It's almost as if you know my situation and are trying to sell me the bike! I'm a mature(ish) new rider and after doing my direct access went straight onto a '99 Honda Hornet 600, and i'll be honest, it was too much bike for me, it encouraged me to go quickly, and I just didn't have the ability to go with it. The inevitable happened, and I came off it, breaking 2 fingers and fracturing one of my vertebrae. I swore I was done with bikes, but the urge to get back on one is strong. I love the classic look, and this RE Interceptor sounds like a much better bike for me. It looks the part, it sounds the part, and its not too quick. Love your videos as always TMF!
Realscot I know your pain!! Started riding at age 60 and 2 years in, I came off and torn rotator cuff. Thought I’d quit but at age 72 have gone trough 20 bikes since then (mostly used) It’s a wonderful disease
Yep love this was looking at the 350 but this is defo the one for me 🥂
You absolutely hit the nail on the head. The 1000cc superbikes are dangerous toys that can tempt you into trouble and you can't use any of the power legally over 5000 rpm. 650cc hits the sweet spot, it's got enough power to entertain, and you ain't worried all the time about getting a scratch on it or getting it nicked. Good old fashioned wind in your hair fun biking. Great!
Maybe Triumph should have a good look at this and consider introducing a modern 650 Bonny. If they got the pricing right I reckon it would sell.
I agree. A future 650 Bonneville should put out 47bhp so it's A2 compliant.
It would take away Street Twin and T100 sales, but Triumph might be losing sales of those to the Interceptor anyway .
If Triumph had made a 125 I might have bought one of those last year. Time to bring back the Triumph Cub name.
Yes I agree. They would be daft not too.
Gary T if they also use water cooling as they are using on there classics they might also go for a 500cc street twin, i think they would sell well. There aren’t any 45hp modern classic to choose unfortunately.
@@ripmax333 Forget the water cooling. Just keep it simple & old school like RE have done
@@garytilley3217 Triumph have the 865 engine. Maybe "fettle" that down to a smaller capacity and the compulsory euro 4 compliance.
I would love one. A bike with traditional styling, an air cooled engine, and modest power without a Harley-Davidson price tag. I guess Moto Guzzi is similar with their modest prices and same old engine. In the States, I don’t think dealers are plentiful, but this could be nice bike for new riders that has enough power to maintain their attention beyond the learner stage.
I bought the GT 650. I love it! My last bike was a 1600 Triumph Thunderbird and this is just as much fun and at lot safer speeds to boot!
Couldn't agree more with the comment about riding a small capacity bike to it's full potential. I purchased a KTM Duke 390 off the back of a TMF review. 18months on it still puts a smile on my face every time I ride it.
Hey TheMissendenFlyer great bike youve got there, im all about those retro/classic looking bikes! But as a beginner rider 650cc is a bit too much for me, maybe by any chance you can review some Mash Motorcycles 125cc, 250cc?
Watched this after your big reveal; your comment mirror my feeling on my 2013 Honda CB1100, and makes me wonder if an Interceptor should join my fleet too. :)
that's it. i'm getting one as my first bike when this pandemic is over
Good choice!
Check out the chrome or silver one, my word they're pretty.
I bought this year from local dealer last 2020Interceptor 650 Mark Three .
I want to say, its very comfortable, beatyful, elegant easy handle bike and powerful enough.
Just ride and enjoy.
Good aren’t they!
I had a continental gt 535. Very cool bike. I still have my Classic 500 Pegasus. I have been considering the new Interceptor
Watford is only a short trip down the M1 for me. Seriously tempted! Thanks tmf.
Street Twin is more expensive, but then it has a lot more power, traction control and is probably built better. Service intervals are better on the Street Twin.
The question is are all of those worth an extra £2600?
(I slightly prefer the more modern look of the Street Twin but I do quite like the look of the Interceptor)
@@karlosh2422 I like the whole Bonneville range, but have to say it's the price of the intercepter that makes it so attractive.
@@leanatale7251 I can certainly understand that . I was going to look at an Interceptor until I found out about the waiting time. You could get a second hand Street Twin for not too much difference in price. Admittedly the 2016 to 2018 Street Twins (54BHP) don't put out much more power than an new Interceptor (47 BHP), but the Street Twin has a lot more torque, so it easily pulls without too much gear changing. The 2019 Street Twins put out 64BHP, so that's a good deal more power than an Interceptor, but then not everyone wants masses of power . I guess it depends all on how you intend to ride.
The clutches on Triumphs are lovely. I've ridden a 2019 Street and Speed Twin. They both had clutches as light as the Honda CB125R that I've just sold . The training school Honda CB600F I just passed my test on had a clutch where I felt like I was training my left hand to crush billiard balls ! I can't say I know what an Interceptor clutch is like , but it could be worth comparing to a Street Twin.
I found the standard 760 mm seat height a bit low on a 2019 Street Twin ( I'm 5 foot 11 inches / 180 cm tall ) . Although Triumph sell a bench seat that makes it higher (something like 30mm higher for £300 more !). For some people the height of a Street Twin seat is ideal.
@@karlosh9286 I've just had a test ride on the intercepter, was mildly supprised, how good it was. I've got the cash to buy outright, and am really tempted. But you are so right, could pick up a nice used t100 or street twin for same money.
@@leanatale7251 I wonder what will depreciate more , a new Interceptor or a second hand T100 / Street Twin. The new Interceptor is just too new to know its depreciation or long term reliability reputation.
Nice review going to my local dealer to check it out later today😎🇺🇸
Hope you enjoy it...let me know how you get on....
I love that bike as I really like the simplicity of older unfaired bikes. And you have to hand it to the Indians. They did a great job with this bike. Gorgeous.
Agreed - although it was designed at their British tech centre.....just sayin’ ;0)
Designed by the Brits though, the best of both worlds
I can’t wait to see what the 650 Himalayan brings to the table. I absolutely love the current Himalayan but on these large US highway stretches between adventures it can be a little too slow.
Bruh this bike goes faster than any posted speed limit in any US highway.
@@iamrobot396 bruh, 80 mph is at its upper limit and sitting near redline all day to maintain the speed limit can't be good for it.
@@URBANAMERICANTAC What do you mean?? Its top speed is 105mph, 80mph is like its ideal cruising speed.
@@iamrobot396 you clearly didn’t read my comment. I’m talking about the Himalayan. The Himalayan which I ride all the time, does not cruise at 80 mph. Trust me.
@@URBANAMERICANTAC Oh my bad i thought you were talking about the Interceptor 650
Needs to be more dealers in the USA. Seems like a cool bike.
I love your optimistic sarcasm at the end. The mirrors have been replaced huh? When I test drove one a couple of weeks ago I thought the mirrors were one of the weak issues of the bike
I loved my test ride on the triumph scrambler - if this is better , that's I I'm havin one.
I owned a Norton Commando Interstate back in the 80's. Loved the sound, torque and handling. Bit of a shaker despite the Isolastic Suspension though, had to braze a crack on the side cover bracket. Replaced the Amals with a single Mukini and added a Boyer electronic ignition. Wish they punched this one out to 750cc. I know S&S Cycle has come out with a kit, though. Hmmmm.
Andy I read in MCN that you are getting one as a new addition to your already amazing collection. I am Soooooo jealous. Work and home committments aside I hope to test ride one soon and also potentially add to the garage.
...well spotted! Glad someone reads my articles!
@@TheMissendenFlyer I'm confused now as you have a new Triumph. What did I miss🤔
I know this is off piste but I was looking at an e bike alternative for my Trek mountain bike - the equivalently equipped bike to my current model with electric motor and battery added is £6200 ! This makes this Enfield at £5.5K a steal - and no pedalling involved. It really puts how we are overcharged for innovation in this country into perspective.
Same for riding my two bikes. You don't have to be going fast to enjoy the riding experience...
Seems that an awful lot of riders are liking this bike...
They're getting good reviews all around.
Not true!
Hey TMF, have you been following Noraly (itchy boots) on her round the world tour on a Royal Enfield Himalayan? Testament indeed to the rugged durability of these bikes. Watching you both on one, it would make us all want one!
That sound is identical to a 1998 honda vtr firestorm I had , love the sound , I'm really contemplating one of these , stuck between this or a triumph t120 🤦♂️
one for your garage andy , vintage and a budget bike, watch your video back with the mrs, ride safe matey
....liking your thinking!
I agree, sometimes less is more. Although I ride a gtr beast, great for long 2up trips. Most of my time I'm on an 04 (non abs)wee strom 650. Back to basics -ish. Welsh mountain roads, nowt better.
Funny as i rode the Interceptor last week its a nice bike and did remind me of my old CB350S! (but with more power) Lacks any of the characteristics that the 500 single gives real value for money but i will stick with my Himalayan for another year. (there could be room in the garage though for the Bullet Trials 500!)
that what I miss today simple , air cooled bikes...I think I gonna buy it while still possible,.
But does it make that TingPingTing sound when it’s cooling down after a great ride?
Loved falling asleep to that when my GS1000 was parked under my bedroom window back in the 70’s.
And the smell of it after being washed with Gunk.....Ahhhhhhh.
Thinking about trading in my RS1200GS ... (honestly...!) Again, today I found myself doing silly speeds - just because I can. But what for?
Cheers for another great VLOG.
Yeah... guess you are right. Can't describe it better. ;)
The old Honda was probably a late 80's to early 90's CB250. They were a solid little bike. The heads were the weak link - in Australia they used to overheat and burn out valves if you didn't keep the valve clearances correct. I had an 86 Model and it lasted me for 17 years.
My brother had a special super dream. God that bike was lovely
this is the third or more time watching this vid, i like the t120 and speed twin just like you and others , am not a sado who keeps doubting and re- watching but the re does seem to be close to the premium brands like triumph and kawa w800 and still comes in cheaper even with upgrades, ,,, keep doing the vids please.
Will do Simon!
This would make for a lovely weekend second bike - not giving up my Versys ever but am struck by the idea of getting a just for fun bike...
Loving the look of this bike, I feel the need for a second bike, also liking the look of the fantic 500 cabellero flat track any plans to road test one ?
Yeah I love the look of those too....getting hold of one is the issue....
Before I could watch this video there was an advertisement for a Honda Goldwing. Unintentional irony aside, juxtaposed against each other it REminds me about what got me into motorcycles in the first place . . . fifty years ago.
Tempting indeed!
Were you on your panIgale the latter part of last week in the Wooburn Green area ?
It's the spiritual descendant of my '72 Triumph Tiger 650, which I think had 39 or so bhp. I also noticed recently it's still on the road, so if you see JML 47K, give it a wave.
Had the pleasure of doing a test ride on an Interceptor a few days ago. I enjoyed it for what it offered above and beyond my RE 500 Classic. I put a deposit on a "Glitter and Dust" Interceptor.. won't be here for another month or two.
The classic is the most beautiful looking bike ever...now imagine if RE mated this 650 engine to it.
