I won a 2022 EX Sunday night at an annual charity event. I know… I know it’s a car with roll up windows but I asked the the Yamaha contact if possible I would like an FX HO and he said done deal but I may have to wait 90-120 days🔥💯👍🇺🇸
I was ready to pull the trigger at our local dealership but I was blessed with this opportunity. Finally 40+ years of always helping people and always going the extra mile for complete strangers got me a ski!!!🤘🔥🇺🇸👍
WHOA! That's awesome.
Thanks for helping people, sometimes karma takes a while to get back to you..👏👏
Amen! I run a modded 83mph FX SVHO and on cruise doing 30-40mph it's a puppy. I still get great milage. This ski is built to be a big, stable ski that can wreck Seadoo 300s and its been so reliable and brilliant to ride
Sounds like a solid runner! That's rad!
The power is unreal….Go with the SVHO !
Lots of potential in that engine.
kind of odd to me not say anything about costs when comparing these.
MSRP = 5-8$ per hour
gas = 5-6$ per hour (premium)
clutch = 6-8$ per hour
then upgrades to unlock the potential of this engine = 5-?$ per hour
I get it, that boat people often don't care about how much stuff costs. That ongoing costs are irrelevant. But that doesn't change the math.
We bought two new wave runners in the spring of 2021. A FX SVHO, and a VX HO. We put on 100 hours on each last year.
Yes the SV is faster. Yes it is noticeable, after spending some time getting accustomed to each ski. But i still prefer the slower ski because of its handling characteristics, despite less power. The difference is not as noticeable as one might assume. The HO 1.8L Yamaha engine has ample power to motivate these boats. It is possible that spending an extra 100-120$ per day of riding just isn't worth it for some people who work for a living.
Why is there no mention of costs in this video?
Because math is boring.
@@watercraftjournal fair enough. I can see how you wouldn't want to get lost in the weeds of the variables with estimating cost in your video. I still think it's worthy of a comment though. Thanks for what you did do here.
He had a tank of gas for a whole month and I can't ride o day wave jumping. 🤷♂️ magic man turns water into gas . What a bs talking head .
You put 100 hours on a ski in a single season!!?? Holy hell, now your numbers make a little more sense. For the majority of people those numbers don't. I've had 3 skis over the last decade. All private party purchases, usually keep each one 2-3 years. Sold 2 of them above what I purchased and one broke even. That may not be how the majority turn out but a lot of people buy used though.
My average hours per season 18. You're riding almost 6 times that. I'm jealous actually.
The supercharger clutches are the Achilles heel on these supercharger bikes. 42 hrs and my clutches went bad. No mods.
We just bought a 2005 FX HO with only 28 hours on it last week. I drove all the way to Northern Indiana from TN to get it. It looks like a 2 year old ski and runs like a scalded dog.
Thanks!
Welcome!
Yamaha done a fantastic job here , I'm a seadoo guy and they gotta do something special for 2023 models but until they happy & safe riding guys and girls.
What more do you expect?
hope you're feelin better.
Much! Thank you! -K
Put 44 hours on my svho this summer 🔥🔥🔥
Good work!
Kevin, I’m trying to choose between Kawasaki 310 ultra x and Yamaha SVHO. I have had a Yamaha fxho 2020 and the hull bubbled up in the first season, there was a lump of glue at the bottom from the impeller not shaved when the jetski was made, and I tipped it once for 30 seconds the water was all over in the engine and ruined the engine. So I haven’t had a good experience, but it terms of stability on bumpy waters and more of a Cadillac ride is that going to be Yamaha or Kawasaki? And thank you
I have a go H.O. 4 or 5 hours of having the throttle pegged I have about 5-6 gallons left. Much better than supercharged but it’s no Corolla by any means
Very informative ! Would you explain why you would prefer FX SVHO with standard seats over FX Cruiser SVHO ?
My height. Over 6’ and you’ll be sitting on the backrest.
Also.. If it's your thing.. Fishermen prefer the flat seats when spun around facing the back of the ski
What about in 2024? I’m hearing the HO is better way to go. Carandriver says the 1.9 HO has blurred the lines between the HO and SVHO. People keep telling me the super charger will need to be rebuilt every year or 2 years, depends. When I was younger I would go for more horsepower without batting an eye but these days not so much. Realistically when buying a toy like this the extra 3k for SVHO is not a factor. Assuming you’re buying one of these you can afford either model. For me it’s a pretty tough decision. Also, not a fan of the SVHO color schemes in 2024. Minor detail but it’s kinda affecting my decision.
I'm only between them cuz I want a fun ski but I also want a ski with some range to explore
One thing I have to disagree with a statement you, and also what the dealer told me, was that the fx ho can go all day on a tank of gas. I get around 3 hours give or take max .
LOL okey dokey
Weird I get 3 hours on a tank with my SHO in the bay
Have fun filling that 18.5 gallon tank with 93 premium at $100 plus a fill for 2hrs of fun. That's a tuff pill to swallow! News flash, gas prices are about to double! You will not be driving that thing at 35mph. You are going to go full blast, because it's fun and very addictive!
You bet it is!
Thank you, good info.
Thank you!
Good advice!
Glad it was helpful!
Good job on this. As a potential first time buyer, would you mind explaining to me why some makes and models have a waterspout and others don’t and what its purpose is? TYVM.
Only Yamaha WaveRunners are equipped with a visibility spout. This serves as an easy identifier out on the water, similar to a buggy whip on ATVs.
@@watercraftjournal thank you. Never realized it would be something as simple as that. I thought it was an outlet to a bilge pump or something.
Just a safety feature that’s all!
@@mdjak3686 A lot of people put turn off valves on the spout, can be a pain for tubers and around busy docks.
Question, which one would you recommend for fishing. No super charger
That’s tough but the Trophy is a heck of a machine
Hi, I just got am2020 Yamaha FX cruiser Ho, I have a Y.E.S warranty extension till 2024 on it and my question is if I change the stock ride plate by à Riva ride plate, is it going to void the warranty?
No.
Kevin I have a stock 2019 FX SVHO. Is there any way to stop or reduce the bow spray? As soon as there's any mild chop, it just sprays the rider on every wave. My past Seadoo GTX seemed to deflect more of the spray away. Are there any bow spray deflectors for the Yamaha I could add? Thank you. Love your videos...
It's your ride plate pushing the bow forward. Kevin's discussed this in detail on other videos. Gotta change ride plates.
@@watercraftjournal thank you! Any chance you can point me to a video where Kevin discusses what ride plate to get? Or just let me know which one so I can order it. Thank you!
RIVA Racing
@@watercraftjournal Thanks. Ordered the ride plate, ECU tune and Engine Breather Upgrade kit.
@@andrewsilver Andrew - I would also add the sponsons as well. Not a lot more and they will significantly improve handing now that you’ve got more speed.
Been waiting for this 🙌 😂 thanks
Hope you enjoyed it!
The SVHO has an expensive supercharger service at 200 hours right?
You definitely want to keep up on your regular service.
Only con for svho costs more, if you really like speed then boost is the way to go. And fuel cost
If the cost of fuel is a deterrent, you're in the wrong hobby.
@@watercraftjournal lol, so true. I made the jump from a Wave Runner III to a Ultra250X, and I was not prepared/warned about the amount of fuel I was gonna buy that first year. 70hrs in that first year and if it weren't for slow/no wakes I could have taped that throttle to the grip that's how awesomely fun your first supercharged ski is!
Getting a 2023 Fx Cruiser HO in a few months. I saw Riva has a map tuner stage 1, any thoughts on this? I’ve heard great things saying it practically brings it up to 65 mph top speed. Might be something down the line that’s worth looking into for myself. Thanks
You'll be forced to run 91-93 octane at all times.
Iv seen 64mph on my stock 2022 fx crusier.
@@wickedsoysauce 64mph in your dreams only. 98 km or 60.8944 miles is all you can get out of a stock fx ho
fx scho vs gp1800r svho? I just ordered gp1800 svho 2021. i live in hawaii,
You bought a ski designed for closed course racing. It's a lightweight racecraft. Hope you're ready for everything that goes with that. ;)
@@watercraftjournal the ocean is my closed race course. thanks for reply. I enjoy the content.
Why the FX and not the FX Cruiser?
Besides colors and a bolstered seat there's zero difference.
Fuel costs are different, super fuel costs a lot more. I have 600 hrs on a 2018, it visited the dealer once at 10 hrs. Runs like new.
Great!
Just purchased my first ski fxho cruiser audio package 2022 it’s actually the first toy I’ve bought brand new!! I went non supercharged as I don’t need it yet I hope i made the right choice!! Pick up the bumblebee 🐝 Monday
Solid choice! Have a blast!
How is the hull on the VX HO ?
GREAT. Identical to the GP only slightly thicker, so it absorbs bumps a little nicer.
What’s the difference between your recommendation for fx svho vs fx cruiser svho?
Colors and seat. The Cruiser used to ONLY have the pop-up cleats, but they're not on the standard FX as well.
FX SVHO with Riva Tune and you will always have way more than you need
I disagree that it doesnt wander. I love mine but its a little like riding a spoon. It seeks a little too much in its tracking and can be squirrelly. But it is a very predictable ride and very easy on ya. Very versatile as well. I would suggest an HO if your whole family is riding or you are wanting to ocean ride and havent before. It has all the speed you would need up to and including advanced riding speeds. SVHO is good if you want to grow into an SC and you can use speed control for the rest of the fam.
At no point is the FX hull "squirrelly" and I've ridden it extensively in a variety of water conditions and speeds since it's redesign in 2019, including tuned 86mph builds. I'll literally fight you in an alleyway like a drug-addled hobo over this. -K
@@watercraftjournal
How well does a drug addled hobo fight..?
@@watercraftjournal 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lol 😂 😆 😂
@@watercraftjournalThis is the comment that earned my subscribe!
All jokes aside, great page and excellent content. I appreciate how hard you try to be unbiased.
FX or GP SVHO ? What would you prefer
For what? Incredibly vague question.
@@watercraftjournal For long term excitement, resale, durability, you know just the greatest fun factor because these things aint cheap
FX will hold longterm value more. GP is a one trick pony. Incredible fun but long distance choppy water, FX wins all day
Nice
Very nice
Thanks for the real
You bet!
what's going on at Yamaha? I put a deposit in February, still waiting. Yamaha is sending me 2023 model info.
Yeah, because you're about 5 months late for orders for 2022. You're getting a '23.
@@watercraftjournal You should call your dealer and ensure your on the list for a 23'
Hey kevin, what do you think about these test results comparing the HO to the SVHO. How is it that in this test the SVHO went further than a HO in perfect water conditions??
ruclips.net/video/pbPaDDBOtkU/видео.html
He's using Jetdrift's results, which are (from what I've seen) the most correct of current MPG standings. It's also vital to understand that the SVHO is the one supercharged engine using the least amount of boost (8psi @ 7700rpm) compared to Kawi and SD. So effectively, you can run up to 40-45mph without really getting "into the boost" making it (more or less) an HO for half of the operating power band.
@@watercraftjournal
Awesome! That's good to know.
Svho eats gas like a V8 80 mph on water for what honestly?
Of all of the supercharged engines, the SVHO is still has the best MPG.
