A lot of Nintendo Land's games were actually pretty enjoyable. You could even unlock interactive statues and figures, which were placed in the central plaza area. But most of the fun comes from the multiplayer. Having to use the controller of another console in order to play with a friend was a little disappointing. Of course for people like me who already had a Wii, this wasn't too big of a deal. But if you didn't then you either had to go buy a Wii or be unable to play two player, which sort of kills about half the game. I list the Wii as a requirement because who the heck buys _one_ controller but not the console to go with it? Nintendo Land is the only game I've ever played that had two player functionality but only if you also owned the previous console. To be fair though, the chances of a person owning _two_ Wii U Gamepads just so they can play with a friend in a game that came out like the day before is pretty slim. It's more likely that they'd have a Wiimote.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was ported to the Switch and had the same graphics engine as Super Mario 3D World. TT on Wii u had Wiiu exclusive features that the Switch doesn't have. They made the controls work on the Switch.
You are one of the only people who can just drop a 45-60 minute video and I'll just watch all of it. It's always a treat to see a new video from you on my feed. I think it's refreshing to see someone with similar thoughts to me on these games. I hate the fanboys who justify Nintendo's stupid actions. At the end of the day it comes down to good games and you understand that. You know, the Wii U era kinda sucked, but with the complete lack of new games it gave me so much time to actually play some retro games that I never got around to in the past. It's inexcusable on Nintendos part for this situation even happening to begin with, but at least the Wii U had some great VC titles especially when it extends to the Wii Mode. In the last few years with the Wii U I got to play the Metroid Prime series for the first time which was amazing, as well as stuff like Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6, Super Metroid, Kirby Nightmare in Dream Land, and Ocarina of TIme. I even got to actually play DK64 and realize how disappointing it actually was. It was kind of a nice system to pick up some old games that I couldn't really have easy access to otherwise as well anymore. I liked this aspect to it (despite the choice to not have Gamecube titles being stupid). Like how are you going to sell Wii Games on VC when they're already backwards compatible, but pass up on Gamecube titles? The Switch had a really strong start but in honesty this last year has been a bit disappointing to me, and it's only been amplified with the online bullshit. I feel like they've been using Smash Bros all year as a way to justify literally nothing else worthwhile coming out and people just eat it up because its Smash Bros. Yeah, it's great, but its felt like as far as first party goes, it's been just that. The port spam has almost been insulting too as a Wii U owner, it feels like half their new games are just games I've already played and they just ignore making actual new titles. Then to top it all off, no VC is kind of a middle finger to me. They've recently added NES games to justify purchasing Switch Online, but honestly? Who cares about NES games. Maybe I'd feel different for SNES/GCN titles, even 64 games, but really, NES games is it? The marketting of the Switch and actually getting 3rd party support is refreshing at least. The gimmick is cool too, and I'm glad there seems to at least be a future for it because of 2017. But in honesty, I feel like this last year has also been pretty lacking on first party games also. btw, I agree with you on The Wonderful 101. I don't like it as much as you it seems, but it was a really enjoyable experience that I've even recommended to other people. Baffling how it didn't sell more, it even got cut to $30. I'd probably buy it again if it were ported to Switch, and I haven't even been buying the ports outside of Mario Kart because I really love that series and wanted the new content. Splat2 and Smash aren't really ports, but I do get what you mean that they don't feel super super different. They are definitive versions though.
I've been really enjoying the Switch so far, but the whole online situation is definitely a huge blunder. If they don't introduce some more interesting titles for their online service, I think I'm just going to not pay for it. I don't mind Wii U ports that much, but that's mostly because the Switch has a lot of support from other companies this time around, so I've been pretty happy with the games so far. I think the whole "port/not port" discussion doesn't really matter that much, because really, Splatoon 2 and Smash Ultimate were designed to be the definitive versions of their respective Wii U titles. I mean, obviously, their both technically new games, but they also borrowed A LOT from their Wii U counterparts. They were all built up with the previous games as a foundation, so it sort of falls within this weird grey area depending on how much "new" stuff there is. I mean, the first Smash Bros direct just straight-up confirmed the entire roster of Smash 4 within the first five minutes, and besides Link and Zelda, the rest of the cast has some pretty minor tweaks and changes (in comparison to the changes between Smash 64>Melee>Brawl>Smash 4). It's definitely has a lot of new content, but it also more of the same.
This is probably the last comment here. Here we are years later and people still continue to love and enjoy the Wii U. Switch is also a great console and it’s ok to hate the Wii U, but it’s not ok to say that no one loves the console. You 90s & 2000s kids can never bring down the Wii U fanbase but we’re ok with you hating it, as long as you don’t say we can’t have our own opinions.
While I love dragging the Wii U nowadays, it's scary to remember how depressing it was to be a Nintendo fan back then. I'm glad the Wii U's failure gave them a kick in the ass to make the Switch, which is fucking awesome.
WHAT!!! But the problem is the Wii U is Wayyyy better than the atrocity that is the Switch! Don't get me wrong,I LOVE the portability of the Switch and it's hybrid nature but it's game library is awful with lackluster sequels like Splatoon 2 and Yoshi's Crafted World and an over saturation of ports that add virtually nothing and feel soulless.
I've only seen Wonderful 101 gameplay once in my life. My ex-Wife was in a Discord call and one of her friends was streaming it. I watched it because I've always been curious, but not enough to look it up, and I never owner a Wii U. What I saw was absolutely breathtaking. And I don't think I'll ever get a chance to play it. 2022. Recession. No Wii U. No good Emulators. Not a very strong computer even if there were. Goddamn...feels bad man.
I think that I chose a good time to start watching your channel. I got some good laughs out of this video. Me? I actually enjoy the Wii U; I got it in 2014 with Mario Kart 8 and New Super Mario Bros. U to start. Super Smash Bros. is my favorite game on the system, even going as far as being my favorite Smash game. You did spend time slamming the heck out New Super Mario Bros. and a mini rant on Smash 4 near the end, but I found those more funny than offensive. Even with my bias for Wii U, I see the obvious issues. The marketing was terrible right out the gate. From a personal perspective, I noticed that Mario games in general -- while still fun -- had a notion of being a bit too safe and derivative. Some folks proclaim the 3DS / Wii U generation as the weakest point of the franchise. Now, this doesn't diminish my love for Super Mario 3D World or Smash 4, and I even got a kick out of Mario Party 10 and NSMBU, but I digress. Yeah...the Wii U is definitely not a great console when looking at the cold hard facts. Fortunately, I'm a bit of an "idiot Mario fan" and find enjoyment out of the system anyway. I also dig the colorful UIs and general lighthearted atmosphere of the Wii U. Entertaining stuff, HyperCharge!
What do you think about the Wii U's 3rd Party support like Ubisoft's Rayman Legends which was originally planned for release in 2012 as a Wii U exclusive but ended up getting delayed and being ported to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 and eventually to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014 and now a "Definitive Edition" on the Nintendo Switch?
"I've never seen a console get shafted as hard as the Wii U" Ahem Vita and DreamCast and possibly the GameCube got shafted just as much because they did half-assed ports just to be anti consumer and screw off customers with lack of new games. All of those consoles are underrated and great.
The DreamCast and GameCube weren’t anti-consumer. Mainly because the Saturn and N64 didn’t do too hot. They got blown the fuck out of the water by the PlayStation.
The main difference is that the DreamCast and GameCube got fucked by the PS2, which was a monster, not even the DS could outsell it, and that thing had like 3 revisions. Those were completely different situation, both DreamCast and GameCube had good games, some of which were only playable in said consoles, for YEARS. IIRC, not even the vita was treated as badly as the Wii U, at least the vita had its share of games appealing to the japanese market
@@DocTime56 The GameCube is unfortunately so shafted they won’t even rerelease it’s games on the Virtual Console or Switch Online. The DreamCast had its games ported pretty much right when the Xbox & GCN came out. But that doesn’t stop the Dreamcast from being great. The Vita was also shafted because its games were ported to PS3 and PS4 as Sony dropped the handheld market. But once again the Vita is also underrated. All 4 (Wii U, Vita, GameCube, Dreamcast) of these consoles are extremely underrated.
I remember that initial reveal day and remember being like WTF Reggie. I figured it was a new peripheral at first until my head scratching made me go deep dive to discover it was in fact a new console. Didn't get one.
Yeah I recently found your channel and pretty much binged all of your videos I love them so much, I really hope you're making a retrospective on the switch because I would love watching that!
The one thing the Wii U excelled at that I can't deny is that it has an extremely large backlog of virtual console games and some great first party games later down the road. Still, those first couple of years of the Wii U prior to like 2014 were absolutely miserable.
I'm going to have to admit it I was begging my mom for the Wii U eventually got it in Christmas 2015 I was begging her all 2015 and I was kind of begging her 2014
Great video, but no mention of Xenoblade Chronicles X and Tokyo Mirage Sessions? To a lesser extent, Nintendo also released NES Remix Pack and finally brought Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings to vc.
Oh God, I legitimately forgot that Xenoblade Chronicles X and Tokyo Mirage Sessions came out. I heard good things, but those games were completely off my radar when they came out. I was thinking about mentioning the NES Remix Pack, but I think I would have just repeated the points I made with the other games (not driving enough interest in the console, ect.) You know, Earthbound was pretty cool, but I guess I never really understood the hype, because anyone who cared that much about Earthbound would have already played it off an emulator or something.
@@ianeons9278 really? As someone who loves the Wii U, I could never have been bothered to play my copy of NES Remix Pack. I’d rather just play the actual fucking NES game instead. And honestly, the NES Classic became a thing soon after as well, and the system had a pretty good virtual console, so I don’t know why anyone would give a shit.
I actually read the entire official nintendo magazine review of wonderful 101 and I dunno... It just didn't look that fun and the writer didn't really convey how amazing it was. I wish I had asked for it...
I bought Wonderful 101. I didn't finish it because something else came out at the time, but I did enjoy it! I was actually surprised they didn't include Wonder Red and Blue in Smash Bros. Also, my friends and I really loved Nintendoland, but I agree with the weird controller and player counter limitations... I played quite a few of the games you mentioned so I wouldn't say it was a waste (at the time), but seeing how they ported everything at this point with Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD ports just announced I think I just heard. Oh well. I'm getting sick of Nintendo's shit at this point. Full retail price for the same games with sloppy executions.
I would never have bought the wii u - in fact, I never did, I was gifted it to my bewilderment - but I enjoyed it well enough. I liked playing 3D world, mario u, pikmin 3, smash, all the virtual console games. It's even where I played BotW. but I'd have long since retired it if it weren't for the INSANE modding community. @@ianeons9278😂 the WiiU is trash, you can love it if you want I am glad Nintendo will never revisit that dead end.
Alternative title:
Hypercharge VS. Wii U fans
I was legit about to get mad when you mentioned The Wonderful 101.
Great video.
I bought a Wii U in 2019....Love it, ha!
Good news Wonderful 101 is coming to PC, PS4 and Switch thanks to a successful kickstarter Platinum created. So happy that this game is finally getting a second chance
And now there really is no reason to play the Wii U. The only game left that I want to see ported is Xenoblade Chronicles X.
@MrSupersonic2012
Wii U is best Nintendo console.
the wii u made me cry
In a good way because it's a great console.
You know, im happy that you Hypercharge chose to make something original insted of becoming like another one of those cookie cutter vloging channels. (with there doofy looking hair cuts.) sure you might have more subscribers but you would have just but you would have just blended in with the crowd. So what im trying to say is thanks for being original.
Wii U never failed,WE failed the Wii U.
Not “we” it was Nintendo who failed it
Smash Ultimate is not a port. It's a new game.
This makes me hope for a w101 sequel on switch
Atleast you got it ported
I can't wait for the Switch Nintendrone.
Wonderful 101 is on switch & PS4 now
Time to throw that Wii U in the trash then
When Sam slammed the table ranting about Super Smash Bros I fucking lost it
I loved my Smash 4 machine!
It had way more games than that bro.
Yeah umm what’s your Wii U user name I want to play with you when I get one
When Super Mario 3D World gets ported, there will be no point of the Wii U besides the streaming apps that the Switch don't have.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was ported to the Switch and had the same graphics engine as Super Mario 3D World. TT on Wii u had Wiiu exclusive features that the Switch doesn't have. They made the controls work on the Switch.
Walther Penne The Wii u is 30fps.
@Walther Penne just commenting to give you a heads up that you might want to delete these comments while you still have the chance...
Wii U era didn't suck you suck for talking trash about this amazing console!
You're just bullying Wii U fans you troll.
This video is so underrated.
No, the Wii U is so underrated, not this video.
Best retrospective on the Wii U, right there.
Worst*
@Walther Penne You’re an idiot if you don’t understand the Switch’s innovation
Considering your other comments though, can’t say its shocking
Seems like in the mario maker section you forgot most people got it to make levels as well as playing it. that was the best part for me by far
People may not care about the Wii U now, but give it 5-10 years and people will be desperate to collect for it.
Exactly
I was literally looking at your videos yesterday wonderwing when you would post again.
Alright dude. Now let’s see the video of you trashing your Wii U since Wonderful 101 is coming out this month for Switch.
This follow-up video will happen at some point. Don't you worry!
HyperCharge lezzzzzzzz goooooo I cant wait for when u drop the vid 😂
@HyperCharge
You won't do a follow up because Wii U fans are to angry at you.
@Adolf Von HyperCharge-Ussilini
No
How can you possibly have not enjoyed Wii U,It had so many amazing games!
It's not hard when it's a shit console
I've only seen Wonderful 101 gameplay once in my life.
My ex-Wife was in a Discord call and one of her friends was streaming it. I watched it because I've always been curious, but not enough to look it up, and I never owner a Wii U.
What I saw was absolutely breathtaking.
And I don't think I'll ever get a chance to play it.
2022. Recession. No Wii U. No good Emulators. Not a very strong computer even if there were.
Goddamn...feels bad man.
Cemu isn't a good emulator? Huh?
You know it's good day when there's a Hyper Charge upload
I WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS ONE
Poor Wii U, I love my Wii U! While I do have a switch, my Wii U is still great and relaxant for virtual console, netflix, and other great games guys!
YES HYPERCHARGE UPLOADED
What do you think about the Wii U's 3rd Party support like Ubisoft's Rayman Legends which was originally planned for release in 2012 as a Wii U exclusive but ended up getting delayed and being ported to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 and eventually to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014 and now a "Definitive Edition" on the Nintendo Switch?
"I've never seen a console get shafted as hard as the Wii U"
Ahem Vita and DreamCast and possibly the GameCube got shafted just as much because they did half-assed ports just to be anti consumer and screw off customers with lack of new games.
@@DocTime56
The GameCube is unfortunately so shafted they won’t even rerelease it’s games on the Virtual Console or Switch Online.
Yay you uploaded
I remember that initial reveal day and remember being like WTF Reggie. I figured it was a new peripheral at first until my head scratching made me go deep dive to discover it was in fact a new console. Didn't get one.
You missed out on your childhood. Never became a true gamer.
@@ianeons9278 I was 23 when the Wii U was released. My childhood was well provided for by the N64!
@@JoelJoel321 same for me and the GameCube
I like your channel. 🐾
Yeah I recently found your channel and pretty much binged all of your videos I love them so much, I really hope you're making a retrospective on the switch because I would love watching that!
For a second I thought that you have reuploaded your wii video :P
Love your channel man. Keep it up been sick. Been binge watching your videos getting me through the days lol
He sure hates the Wii U but for me it brought me to play games I never played before and some of those games are still worth going back 2
The one thing the Wii U excelled at that I can't deny is that it has an extremely large backlog of virtual console games and some great first party games later down the road. Still, those first couple of years of the Wii U prior to like 2014 were absolutely miserable.
I'm going to have to admit it I was begging my mom for the Wii U eventually got it in Christmas 2015 I was begging her all 2015 and I was kind of begging her 2014
Great video! I bought a Wii U a year after it came out. I had most of the games you went over.
I will still use my Wii u
i think he threw his wii u in the trash
No
I haven't even watched the entire video yet, but thank you for making videos
The name stands for Wii as in us and U meaning its also an experience of you. According to Reggie
Great video as always. I Look forward to all your new shit.
No
Tbh Mario Maker should have been a launch title.
Along with Splatoon
I doubted that Devil Third, Dragon Quest X, Fatal Frame 5 and yakuza 1 & 2 was pretty amazing game too....even though some game only regional locked.
@HyperCharge
They drove plenty of interest into the Wii U! They just marketed it horribly.
I was just waiting for this i love you!!!!
10:07 is so hilariously true lmao
The Switch’s release basically banked on Breath of the Wild being successful
Wii U is still better
Just admit it nintendo likes November
I would never have bought the wii u - in fact, I never did, I was gifted it to my bewilderment - but I enjoyed it well enough. I liked playing 3D world, mario u, pikmin 3, smash, all the virtual console games. It's even where I played BotW. but I'd have long since retired it if it weren't for the INSANE modding community. I can honestly say I love my wii u, and use it daily ... to play my gamecube games lol
Wii U is best console modded or not.
Amazing content dude keep it up.
This video was mostly trash
