  • Following up on how the Naturehike Vik 1 worked for a taller (6’3”) camper like me, especially in bad weather. The tent held up exceptionally to the snow!

    Just ordered one of these and is on its way. Think is a neat tent and wanted to try it.

      Awesome, let me know how you like it when you get it! I do keep hoping they will make it just a little longer, just 3 or 4”, but still a 1 person tent.

      @@smithe68 I got the 2p model. Was only $70 so figured was reasonable and have other tents can use. Like the green version but don’t want to spend that much when really don’t need it. Just thought be fun tent on right conditions

    i've read online multiple times that the naturehike vik 1 is too short for people 170cm tall or more, is this really true?
    i'm 174cm and don't wanna touch the walls and get my sleeping bag wet...

    • @smithe68
      @smithe68  2 года назад +1

      That surprises me, I am 6’3”/190.5 cm and I fit “ok” as you can see in the video but it’s tight. At your height you would have a lot of room. The sleeping pads I am using are almost 183cm if that helps get an idea of the room inside. Let me know if you have other questions.

      @@smithe68 thank you,maybe these people pitched it wrong? some say they dont fit with 175cm,strange

      @@ChrisLowResDream hard to say but even not staked out well I can’t imagine it wouldn’t fit you. It would be no good for me though! I sold this one to a friend who is about your height and he has a lot of room. I regretted the sale and bought another one 🤣 It’s solid for me in nice weather but, I wouldn’t do wet weather as I am VERY close to the ends.

    I tested it a couple of days ago in the mountain range, near Santiago de Chile, Yerba Loca sector (2800m), external temperature -6 C approximately. The tent condensed the water excessively, the tent froze inside due to the excess condensation, with an internal temperature of -2.6 celsius. My tent is Vik1 with a snow skirt

    • @smithe68
      @smithe68  3 года назад

      Interesting, I am guessing the skirt kept there from being any airflow to help with the condensation but I really don’t know for sure? I have a couple single skin tents now and as long as I have good airflow my condensation isn’t too bad. I don’t generally camp in high humidity areas which also helps I am sure.

      I have not had it in the wind, yet. I know #summitornothing has way more time in his Vik 1 including some pretty heavy winds.

    Does the VIK 2 has double door? (2 vestibule)

    • @smithe68
      @smithe68  3 года назад

      I don’t know, I wish I did! Someone in the 3F UL Gear/Naturehike group on Facebook has ordered one so I am looking forward to seeing what they have to say about it. There is one picture of it on the Naturehike site and it doesn’t show the other side although it does show that it has some sort of hybrid double wall at the ends.

      Hi was led to believe it was not suited for beginers in back packing as with any single skin tent .More suited for the experianced camper who knows how to protect himself along with his kit . I have not used it my self but seen one or to reviews about it .like yours all pretty positive .looks ideal for a overnight camp though.

    • @smithe68
      @smithe68  3 года назад

      @@fatwhitebloke9851 I think you are right, not for beginners! Anyone using this tent needs to understand ventilation and the proper use of it. I really shouldn’t have been using it in heavy snow that’s for sure! I think overall it’s a fantastic tent. I would love to see the design of the 2 person come to the 1 person in an update.

      I own other NH tent, but I was looking through all reviews - apparently Vik2 also has only one vestibule (at the back) and only one door.

      So you must backpack as well then? We’ve got snow coming next week, maybe even a fair amount. I have done some winter backpacking on snowshoes but it’s been a few years, hoping to get out this winter. I have a couple single person tents, I like the weight and packing size but there usually isn’t a lot of space for me and gear.

      @@smithe68 I'm right there with ya in height and am over 200lbs, so I feel ya with the size issues.
      We do the few day canoe camping trips down the Delaware Water Gap at the Appalachian trail. Always a blast.
      Have done some backpack camping, but only have 1/2 the stuff needed in the ultralight category.
      I have however never camped in the winter. A buddy and I did trip beginning of spring last year and it was getting down into the 30's at night. Want pleasant with my 3 season gear. Lol

      @@skubyvision That’s pretty cool, I have wanted to do a kayak trip and camp but haven’t ever committed to it.
      I’ve got some decently light gear but I doubt I will ever go truly ultralight because I like my chair too much 🤣 It’s really small, low and light (16oz) but it has a freaking backrest and that makes all the difference for me vs the whole sit pad thing or leaning up against a tree. My favorite tent right now is a 3F UL Gear lanshan 1 pro. It’s a great 1 person tent for a single wall trekking pole tent, it’s nice and wide in the middle so plenty of room for gear and stuff but still a relatively compact tent and only 24oz. I bought a hammock at the start of the year to try that out but with a bad knee I got no trips in, next year I plan on getting out a lot!
      No that would not be fun at all with 3 seasons gear, been there done that myself 😂 Bought a high R value pad and 10 degree bag so I can extend the season after the last time I spent all night trying to stay warm in all my extra layers.
