  • It’s early March here in St. Louis and my bones are cold. I decided to make a ‘Springy’ cake to lighten my mood.
I love working with wafer paper, but it can be tricky. This tutorial shows you how to make it work for you. I made a bird nest out of wafer paper (see below) and loved it - but it was missing something. Eggs of course! I didn’t want to just throw some Cadbury eggs in and call it a day (I tend to complicate things 😁).
These golden wafer paper eggs are perfect! Watch how I made it happen in this tutorial.

HOW TO MAKE A WAFER PAPER BIRD NEST
    What you’ll need:
    • Three sheets of wafer paper cut into very narrow strips. This is a 6” cake. Cut additional sheets if you want a larger nest.
    • Vodka (or any food grade alcohol) in a spray bottle (fine mist).
    • A bowl the approximate diameter of your cake.
Collect your strips and bundle them up. From a distance of roughly 6 inches above, mist your strips lightly. Just a few sprays all around should do the job. Begin to shape your pile into a bird nest. Lightly mist the inside of your bowl and place your nest inside. The moisture from the bowl will help to form a solid base for your nest. Lightly spray your nest again and let it dry. That’s it!
