Love this!! "I am the parent and this is how it's going to be" is a parenting skill that seems to be falling by the wayside these days. Thank you for sharing that with the world. A lot of parents these days just want to be their kids "friend" and it's not a good choice. As an educator, I love how grounded and down to earth both of you are!

So you can say "I am the teacher and this is how it's going to be". Teachers should use that. Give them structure in class even if they do not get it at home. They cannot disrupt the milieu. One thing my daughter said always interrupted her concentration was a teacher talking to another student from across the room instead of going to the student or the student going to the teacher. Blake I hope you have a good year teaching.

Loved the question about Laura’s early teen years. I yearned for guidance at that age but my parents didn’t want to be bothered or whatever! To all of you parents out there your children need you to watch over them as teens as carefully as you watched them as toddlers and young children!!! Laura is SO LUCKY to have such a wonderful Mom!

Agreed with this wholeheartedly. The questions about mom/Laura’s relationship really warmed my heart but also made me yearn for that type of connection with my own mother. Bittersweet for sure. PARENTS: your kids won’t remember every name brand item you bought them, but they WILL remember when you were there for their sports and how you cared for them.
Absolutely loving these Q&A’s. Laura, I hope you continue this “series” with mom and maybe even dad too!

    • @KODoch48
      @KODoch48 Год назад +26

Totally agree … You’re not your child’s “friend,” you’re so MUCH MORE important than what a child perceives and defines as their friends! Remember, the job of a parent is to guide your little human into adulthood, thoroughly prepared for a pretty varied and many times rough world out there, and that’s NOT what their friends do for them! A parent’s goal should be in the end of your parenting job when your children are adults … you’d want them as the best of “friends”! Seems that’s exactly where Laura’s and her mother have ended up! 😊👍🏻

I agree Angela Engler. I was #7 of 8 kids and felt invisible as a child and teen and still feel the same at 63. My Mom is a wonderful person, even at 92. It used to bother me that things weren't explained to me. It also didn't help my cause by being excruciatingly shy. That is why I so admire Laura's relationship with her Mom.

Laura & Susan thank you so much for all your great answers. You are such a beautiful family. I am 70 years old and use to be an avid gardener but poor health has made me limit what I can and can not do. My husband does his best to keep up with what I can no longer do . I tried to pass my love of gardening onto my 3 children, 2 sons and a daughter but just the middle child, my son was bitten by gardening like me. My older son loves house plants and my youngest child , my daughter who I had at 42 is just now trying her hand at growing some vegetables. She has two babies, a 13 month old little boy and a 30 month old little girl! So she has her hands full to say the least.
My mom, sister and I had a very close relationship my entire life. Our mom is gone now and I cherish those memories.
Enjoy each and every memory, each celebration of laughter and every day together the Lord gives you all. I am always so in awe at all you do Laura and how you never get tired of mother nature and her gifts no matter how many times you may have experienced it, you always delight in seeing it bloom and thrive again!

These sweet "fireside" chats with your beautiful and inspiring mom are some of my favorites! Well, everything @Garden Answer is my favorite. So much wisdom, inspiration and insight emanates from her. It's wonderful to hear your mom's beginnings and how your family has grown and flourished because of your parents' loving care and strong faith, wisdom and work ethic. And I love her gentile and elegant style of "romancing the ordinary." People always ask why I use my good china, glassware and cloth napkins at family and company dinners. It's just what your mom was sharing. Make every moment as special as you can. Like our gardens, we are only here for a short time. Make it beautiful while you can.

I have laughed hysterically at the "watermelon over the phone" customer interaction. I worked for a short while in customer service for a public service clothing company. A guy calls in and says, "I want a shirt just like the one I have on." After questioning him on what brand, style, etc. he says, "I don't know, it's just like the one I'm wearing." At that point I had to remind him we're on the phone and I can't see what he has on! 😂

LOL Great story! When I was a teenager I worked at a Pizza Place. I was new and still in training and they had me answering the phones. I got a call from a customer that asked me "How much for your large females?" and I hung up on him! I walked over to my boss with a disgusted creeped out look on my face and I said "A man just called and asked how much our large females are" My boss said "If he calls back, tell him he can take Peggy (my coworker) for 20 bucks" and he jokingly punched a male coworker in the arm and they both started laughing. Then he explained that our business phone number was one number different from a seafood place down the street that sold crabs. The guy on the phone, thought he called the seafood place and wanted large female crabs! I was relieved. I was soo freaked out.

I love your gardening channel which I've recently discovered. I'm an enthusiastic gardener all the way from Brisbane, Qld. Australia. We enjoy a sub-tropical climate and can grow a large variety with no need to "over winter". It fascinates me the varieties you grow and cannot grow in yours however, I have recognised some that I have growing in my small garden only with different names of varieties. I've really enjoyed your Q & A series with your mum and dad. I have a lovely daughter about the same age as you Laura, and we have a lovely fun relationship which is treasured as yours is. Can't wait for the next video.

Oh what a special treat this morning!! Love, Love, Loved this. Laura's Mom (Susan) is such a joy to be around. I learned a few things too ~ "Plant in multiples" not just one or two. Thank you so much Laura for bringing your Mom to us. Hey, we learned your Dad's name today too ~ Michael. You all enjoy your day. I have to go and make breakfast now. I put my spouse on hold until I was done with the video. xo

Laura, I simply love these questions and answer videos with you and your beautiful Mom...💖... getting to know you both, as well as all of your gardening knowledge, wisdom, experience and video's...🥰
You are so very blessed to have such a beautiful, loving, grounded and down to earth parent's and family to continue to learn from, share and bless your families and children's lives...🥰💖🥰... which are one's most precious and greatest assets in life!! Family is everything...🥰💖🥰
What ever you do... each day Laura, with utmost respect and love for you ... let your Mom, Dad, Eric, Benjamin and Samantha Grace (?) each "NEW DAY"... just HUG THEM TIGHT a LITTLE LONGER, GIVE THEM an EXTRA KISS, TELL THEM how much YOU LOVE THEM, how PROUD YOU ARE of THEM, and HOW THEY have IMPACTED your LIFE and CHANGED IT for the BETTER...💖🕊💖🕊💖🕊💖🕊
No matter how tired... fustrated... or ...upset you (we) maybe on any given day... 🤔 please, REMEMBER how extremely BLESSED you "all" truly are...🥰
BECAUSE... on any given day... 😪
"They... anyone of them... may NOT WALK BACK THROUGH YOUR DOOR... 😪 ... WHEN EVENING FALLS!!!!
NOT everyone is BLESSED to have or even know their parent's, or have their spouse or children still with them...🕊🕊🕊🕊
May, God continue to richly bless, guide and protect you and your beautiful families...💖
You and your Mom would be awesome neighbor's...💖🥰💖 I too, love to garden, cook and bake from scratch and love to eat and entertain and spend time with those I love... #making #precious and #priceless #memories... 🥰💖🥰

I understand but if people didn't have an outlet to do something at home people would have gone insane. SO gardening was a life saver too!
Just like the building industry, it gave people things to do at home, I'm sure there was lots of happy wives, finally things were getting done around the house lol!! Grace
I just had a wedding to do in the summer and it was vintage style so I was googling the night before how to do vintage style bouquets and arrangements and it's changed my floristry forever !! Love love it!

When I first started working at a garden center 27 years ago my manger told me the same as your Mom to read the plant signs when I was watering to learn the stock. It helped that I had just moved from a zone 7 to a 6 and had already did a lot of studying over the winter to landscape my new yard. Then I took the master gardener course and once I had enough work hours became a Ohio certified nursery technician.

I also have to say the multiple camera angles and editing are fabulous and so adds to the feeling that I'm there with you. And while I'm commenting (this is my first Garden Answer comment), Thank you so very much Laura and Aaron for this channel. Yes, what a special treat. I think I would spend many a hot day respite under a shade tree reading these journals to my little grandgirls & boys. My grandmother's journals were not shared; and, she was the best gardener I ever knew, ever. I loved being in her "yards". I remember the transients from the railroads knocking on the back door knowing she would have fresh produce or canned produce she would share with them; having their tattered hat in hand saying, "Bless you Ms Kathrine, bless you". I also learned about hard work, pride and how to bond toward the wise ones. I only wish I knew whom (Aunt Terrie) had hidden my grandmother's and great grandmothers journals, and would pass them down to me and my daughters, and soon to be my greats. They would mean the world to me!
      Yes, a precious gift indeed.
I better get back to my own journaling. Lol, my journal is a gardening tragedy, ha ha ha ha, until I found Garden Answer in 2017.

Love part 2 of q&a with Mom…fyi, After I plant something, I write on the tag: where I bought it, the date planted, location planted, and toss the tag in a pretty decorative box. I then can enter the info into a garden journal on bad weather days!! It’s worked REALLY well whether they are entered in the journal or not!! 🥰

Hey Laura, I have absolutely enjoyed these sit down chats with your mother. I've been wanting to do a road trip out your way and would love a peak at your gardens. Now I just want to sit down and have a cup of coffee with your mom!! 🙂I am closer to her age and appreciate her hard work and parenting. I am so happy you followed her guidance. Isn't it a blessing when you follow what God says when he said "Children Obey your Parents." Look at how he has blessed you for that!! Love your sweet relationship. You two made me laugh and cry on this one. 🙂
PS...Tell your mom, sometimes God allows these set backs (broken leg) to bless us. Same thing happened to me! Two "set backs" turned into awesome life long blessings!!!
