This game has not been treated well by time, compared to other games for the MD/Genesis. The arcade version is still fun to play, this one is a bit of a chore to play with it's continue limits, and the fact your health doesn't refill between stages.
Yeah, and not of late, has been like this forever. Most send in only a normal double-res version of their old-school longplays. Like in this case - this game's native res is 320x224, so they encode and upload a 640x448 (or x450) version to the site, which then admins put on this RUclips channel. RUclips doesn't have 400p or 450p, so it defaults down to just 360p making it look even worse than 450p would do (and 450p would look bad as well, IMO). I personally upload two versions, one for the site and one for them to put on this RUclips channel that is in HD so the pixels are clean/crisp/sharp. There's games with even lower native res and OMG, they are just a garbled mess on RUclips as they weren't uploaded in a HD version. People who complain usually get the reply "Just go to the site and download the source video", which of course will look better.
@@iamironclaw RUclips simply can't (won't) handle low resolution with high bitrate. Even if they supported 450p it would look bad. YT seems to think low resolution = low quality video so they don't even bother to preserve. I just wonder why this channel doesn't simply fix that. Since they don't do dupes they essentially won't improve. Just seems like there's no effort put in on their part.

My brother and I played the shit out of Altered Beast as kids, but could never beat it. Man, I miss this game.
