Midnight Resistance (1990) was a rather lackluster attempt at making a Contra-esque game, ported later to Sega Genesis. Still, it manages to preserve some of the genre's core values, and therefore is well suited for a TAS.
Selected quotes from the author:
Story: an evil enemy kidnaps the hero's family. The hero is pleased, as this gives him a reason to wear a tight sleeveless shirt and blow up stuff with big guns. Игры
“Midnight Resistance”
*Some of the stages take place at daytime*
😂😂 the irony
I gonna be honest the sountrack is pretty good.
So was the one in Contra... 😂😂😂
They really went all out on the run animation
I remember playing this on an arcade at the video rental store while my dad was deciding what to rent. Must have been around 1990 as Strider was the other game they had. Both games came out in ‘89
It may move a little slow and play a little clunky, but this game _really_ took the _Contra_ formula up to a whole new level. In short: _Midnight Resistance_ is awesome.
And this TAS is just as awesome as the game. Nicely played, adelikat!
I can't believe that I've never seen or heard of this game, my friends and I were Contra freaks back in the day. Sweet ass music and some fun looking game play.
7:55 This has to be the funniest villain threat i've ever seen, i can only imagine the line being said in a cartoony voice lmao
The music in this game is tops
That was a quite entertaining TAS. Thanks for sharing.
Absolute Classic! . . . and those Chiptunes Rock Too, Damn!!!
Great Speedrun!!! 😃🎯👏💯
I like the quotes from the author
Nicely done \w/
It’s like a slow paced Contra game
The clouds on the tree stage look like the Mario Bros 2 clouds you can jump onto
That last boss looks hard.
Watchable and enjoyable at playback 1.25 speed.
Cool
action hero is a slow walker, yet he is still faster than a jeep
The music really didn't have to go that hard.
Especially contrasted against the slow-paced action.
Music sounds like it was meant for a shooter game, not a run-and-gun game.
looks like they made heavy barrel into a side scroller...
It uses the same sfx (in the arcade at least) and key system, so yeah
Fittingly, both games were by Data East
Jesus Christ, this game run in slomo?
Less slowdown than the arcade version, that's for sure, lol
This would've been a good port if it weren't for the lack of 2 player and EXTREMELY BAD color choices. The first and second stages are literally on a universal 16-color palette (only 16 colors onscreen. Think of it like the Atari ST in terms of color capabilities here), but imo, the lack of multiplayer hurts it more.
At least there's no slowdown unlike the arcade version and the music is better, but still...

SECOND
Already beat you to it
@@Formula_Zero_EX i know
I've always loved the music in this game, Genesis only, the arcade music sounds like trash by comparison
The arcade music isn’t that bad, though yeah, Gen/MD kills it
It's too bad the animation looks so cheap, the game looks like it plays fairly well.
It mainly came from the fact the arcade version could barely run this game to begin with
Overproduced-yet-still-somehow-low-rent Contra clone dies in screaming agony, film -at 11- RIGHT NOW.
lol what? If this game was bad i would agreed it's over-produced. This is not the case though.
