John just learned that he'll be doing a comedy stand-up segment this coming Saturday at Shenanigans Comedy Theatre in Huntsville, Alabama. It starts at 8:00 pm. I'm sure I'll be there just to make sure he has at least ONE person there to clap and pretend he's actually being funny! :-)
Is there any way I can like this twice? I hope that, on some level, you understand how beloved you are. I miss my dad, but I can always have a fine time with Hickok45.
My dad was a teacher with much the same personality as Hickok. Great humor, self effacing, patient, compassionate. But, you knew he meant business when he used "the school teacher voice" as we called it. I would give much to spend an afternoon at the compound. Someday perhaps.
Listening to you talking about the days you taught english has really made me upset cause I couldnt have cared less about school when i was going through that stuff as a student but hearing you talk about it makes me realize how much i loved it deep down inside and how i wish so much that i could live those days all over again and appreciate them like i shouldve
Dude get a grip and grow some balls ,i too had issues in school it was a real fist fight every dsy, but thsts life try being shot twice but i dont blam you & he was sharing his life experance & that wasnt about you rathdr about him, we all have shit and tdrrable shit we gi through, di look @ it like i did or rather do , whatever dont kill you makes you stronger. Scott Boxer: I think what you said was most profound and it reflects my views, I loved school even though bullies made it difficult, I grew up immersed in violence and had to learn to fight at an early age, sad that one has to learn to hurt others at age 8, no regrets.
@@carminemurray6624 I got bullied in school so did a friend of mine so bad I all most shot them so I know about being bullied and it still going on with the national forest in California there are bullieing people that are not there friends abusing there power
This is like one of those old cooking shows (can't remember which), but for men and about guns and life. Some shooting, and some sage wisdom. Always enjoyable and laid-back. Thanks Hickock!
My dear sir please continue to speak your life experiences. The youth need to hear life before this madness. I love you grandpa lol;) God bless you and your family 😇😇😇 we need more of you!
What an amazing video. I never thought I'd ever sit through to hear someone talk for this long. As you said, some of us are here to see and hear about guns, but boy o boy, can you talk and did I enjoy it. Growing up in India, with mostly apathetic teachers, I didn't enjoy school a lot. Your wisdom about doing what you enjoy doing should be heeded by everyone. Your own 'Last Dance' story was engrossing and touching. I hope you do this for a long time because you'll have someone who looks forward to not just shooting part but also to hear you talk. Thank you, Mr.Hickok.
wow i am so glad you are talking about hunting... what is it about firearms that makes everyone think we all hunt? i don't either. my ex, who knows more about firearms than anyone i ever met, doesn't either. we shoot paper and other targets. thank you for bringing this up and i totally agree!
Wow, I’ve been subbed to you for Years! And it brings me so much joy to see you’ve made it to over 5 million subs! GOD IS GOOD! I Love sitting out on the back porch listening to your talks man.
YES, another Sunday shoot around morning! Haven't even finished watching the video, just had to say you made my day when you stopped mid sentence to pull and empty then reload your carry 9mm. 6:50-7:10,most important 20 seconds in life.. I am now calm and at peace. Bless you.
Great program. One of my favorites. Sounds like you have had a blessed life in Jesus Christ. Speaking of English class and literature reminds me of the novel we read my junior year in High School 'The Scarlet Letter' by Nathaniel Hawthorne. This was required reading for the entire junior class of 120 students. Each student had to pick a character and write a report defending his/her position. Out of a 120 students I was the only one who chose Rev. Arthur Dimmesdale the village pastor. Poor Hester had to suffer alone with her shame. Yet I was able to defend the Rev. to the point that our teacher resent her order to hang the good Rev. upon sight. Keep up the great work and thanks. I truly enjoy watching your show.
Thank you for sharing. I drove a school bus for a couple of years. Preschool through high School. Four different schools. I really enjoyed it. (The middle school was the most challenging.)
Boy the 45-70 hits the gong with authority, you can see the muzzle flash from the Federal ammo. Nice to hear about careers I am on my 3rd and the one I enjoy most and will retire from👍👍👍👍
Greg, I read your CV. You’re too humble about your basketball history. A man of many mastered interests. Thanks for all you do here. Sundays are a real pleasure with this format.
This is probably why you're such a good instructor because of your teaching background and your passion for a sport and you want to educate others about the sport
Hickok, thanks so much for talking about "We are all in this together" and "The new normal". My wife and I have also got to the "gag" phase in our lives hearing those words. 100% agree with your points that those are not areas of our lives we need or want. I had to stop the video when you said that and show my wife what you said. She said "good for him". "My kind of guy"! I think the final straw on that statement was when all of the personal injury attorneys started using it in their commercials. I don't think so !
Thanks for explaining why you don't hunt. Like you, I don't either, but it's not because I'm "anti-hunting" it is just not something that I find appealing. You gave me a lot more food for thought about the whole issue of the extremes to which this is all regulated. The extent of my hunting includes shooting an innocent turkey that happened wander into my field of view while I was shooting my 5.56 at a buddy's property. I was surprised how many rounds I had to put into him before he stopped moving. I really enjoyed your talking about your teaching career. My parents were both middle school teachers and my mom was a brilliant English teacher and instilled in me a lifelong love of language, writing and reading. She is 88 years old now and she still plows through books like nobody's business. She has read War and Peace so many times I try to find new translations of it wherever I can!
Mr. Hickok, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this video about your teaching career, and what it was like for you. The description of you and your kids reading a novel in class, reminds me of one of my experiences as a young student... I was in third or forth grade when our teacher would have the us kids go in front of the class and read a few pages of whatever book we were studying. Well I was very shy then, and I didn't like going in front the the class to read. I could read well, and I understood the meaning in the novel. However, I noticed that when a kid stumbled all over the text, the teacher would ask that student to sit down and she would proceed to the next student to read in front of class. So I figured if I pretended to not know how to read I would be asked to sit down, and my problem would be solved! Well, after a few days of that the teacher asked a group of kids to meet her at her desk, myself included. She informed us that we would be attending another class room for english and reading, then we would return to our regular class. I remember standing there and wondering why I was there with all the dumb kids from the class. When we attended the "other" class we were asked to read sitting in a circle, which was fine by me. When my turn came up to read, I read without a single misspoken word. I was asked to read some more, which I did. Then again. Finally that teacher asked why I was in that particular group. My reply was that I didn't know. I was asked if I could read and my reply was, "of course I can read." Then that special ed. teacher asked what had happened in class when reading came up. I answered that I didn't like to read in front of the class and I noticed that when other kids didn't read well, they were asked to step down and were not asked to read again. So I pretended not to know how to read, and was not called again to read in front of the class. The special ed. teacher then asked me to read more advanced books which I did. As long as I didn't have to stand in front of everyone, I was fine. After reading more advanced text, I was then transferred from the remedial english class, to the advanced class where all the smart girls were... So, that was the start of me trying to beat the system, which even though I am now retired, still haunts me! lol
You know when I was in school it was the exact same way because I started school in the 70s and to listen to hickok45 explained and the way he does makes it sound so exciting and bring back so many memories that I can listen to him for hours literally thank you
I must say that I appreciate your commentary on new shooters. I remember when I was one. The gentleman at the range was great and helped me get comfortable - never made fun of me ever. Wolf range in NH. I will never forget it.
Hickok45: "I'm not a great shot." Several previous Hickok45 videos: proceeds to put 15 rounds of 9mm on a 6 inch target 100 yards downrange. Me: "I'm a terrible shot."
that's just a master at work being modest. you go into any workshop of any sort, as the workers "what'd you break" that guys that don't know squat get real defensive and say "oh no I didn't break anything!!" the guys that know their stuff will just go "oh you know I broke all of it just trying to see if I have all the pieces still" lol meanwhile they're ripping through all the work almost effortlessly. just sort of think of Hickock45 that same way just based on how he talks about himself
Hickock45, I wish I had a literature teacher like you. I know you made literature interesting and enjoyable unlike the ones that taught my classes. Enjoyed your Sunday Shoot and Round! Many thanks, sir!
Good morning, H45. Happy to see you. There is a company making fifteen round magazines for the 43x and I believe they are flush fitting or close. Shield Arms if I remember correctly.
I've often wondered what happened to the Colt that Hank Williams Jr presented to Johnny Cash on The Johnny Cash Show? Thanks for another week off to a good start- plenty of food for thought!
I have a prospective buyer for those laminate trees! My dad put a Colt Woodsman in my hands in the 70s and under strict guidance I learned to squeeze the trigger. I am specialized in a particular field of work...and I don't envy those whom are better than I at any particular subject, I do however strive to be the best that I can be at ANY subject. If I fall short it's just human nature, for we are all fallible and full of fault. Thanks Mr. Hickok45!
Sir, i love guns. Your teaching skills on the subject are nice to see. My grandfather was my teacher and its nice to see anyone else in the world as knowledgeable. But ya knocked me out my boots with your history and passion of being a teacher of english. Id suggest a hickock45 english class for adults. Id love to read a book and bounce things off well rounded folks. Ty Life is good!
I spent a year in "middle" Tennessee, attending a reform school that charged tuition- Bell Buckle. Best thing about Bell Buckle was that the school allowed you to bring firearms. Subsequently graduated from the commie pinko school of the south, Emory, with a BA in lit. I have been a "gun nut" as long as I can remember, and it's always marvelous to watch these prayer sessions Hickock 45 conducts on You Tube. Thank you. Please keep up the good work.
Thanks for another great video, totally loved your comments on the reason for not hunting and other conservation woes. In the state of illinois its a nightmare just going into any king of woods or parks. Morel mushrooms are great to eat and hunt for, yet a county over arrested and fined a middle aged couple when a county sherff came across them, 500 dollar fine, and court hassles. Use to be against the law for taking fallen branches for a camp fire. A warning usually would do the same. Thanks. Have a safe memorial day guys and gals.
just love your videos... watched the auto AK one and just had me laughing! it's great to see someone so incredibly knowledgeable, joyful about guns, yet with no ego like some guys on youtube... just laid back southern style. have learned alot and when i have a firearm question this is the first place i look.
Liked the teaching stories. You sound like a great teacher. You have made a difference in a lot of peoples lives and it is clear they have made an impact on your life. A teacher made me read Of Mice and Men and i hated the assignment but i loved the book. I remember her and that was 41 years ago. I started reading novels because of her.
Just watching this in Early September 2021... What a LOVELY Story of a large portion of your life here "Hickok"!! It takes a Big Man to talk that openly about his life experiences and your Teaching Heritage comes bursting through. Let us face it, you are STILL Teaching really, aren't you??... You especially are teaching those of us in Countries with much more draconian laws relating to Public Gun Ownership than your home one of the USofA... where I come from (the U.K.) being near top of the pile there!! Long may you keep doing this and entertaining thousands of us online. Kind Regards...
I love to watch the Sunday shoot around with coffee on a Sunday. Really like that lever action reminds me of The Rifleman. My mom was a teacher for 35 years and taught hundreds of kids I think every teacher misses it to some one degree or the other. Im over the politics of this Covid on all sides to be honest.
Its also one of my favourite books I wasn't born in 1984 , but then neither was the book It was actually written in 1948 by the author George Orwell Dohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...............................................................................................
Would love to see what you think of the Marlin 1895 SBL.

Love mine, got a new early 2020 production model and it is really really nice. Paid $940 for mine a couple months ago but good look finding one for less than $1400 now though, hell good luck finding one at all...
So true about finding a career that you enjoy. I had an opportunity to advance in a career that I didn't enjoy 9 years ago, but also had an opportunity to get into the fisheries world and went with that. I make probably half of what I could have, but I love it and don't wake up dreading the work day. It gives me purpose and you can't put a price tag on that.
I'm recently widowed and rather that dispose of his weapons, got interested in gun proficiency and concealed carry. I plan to learn and use them well and acquire a few more. Sure is fun to watch and learn. Currently ignorant, cautious, and learning. Appreciate the minimal gun snobbery or know-it-allness but yes guys will be guys, love your videos👍
I do a lot of hunting and I'm glad that you dont act like some people who dont hunt where they go around saying you shouldn't hunt thank you for all you do for the gun community
My 8th grade English teacher was the best teacher I ever had. He rode a Harley to school and had a mustache, and was from Kentucky. I lived in Xenia, Ohio back then. He was also my home room teacher. I’m now 62, and still think of him occasionally. I was lucky to have had him as a teacher. I can still diagram a sentence! I know your students were lucky to have had you as their teacher too,
Loved hearing about your teaching experience very much. You may have gotten out just in time! I wish I could just sit down and talk to ya about your thoughts about the direction of education. I taught for 12 years and was very successful but all the sudden a few years ago things just went a very bad direction, in my opinion. You could see it changing, and change is good for the most part. But it came to a point when I feel like I my job went from pushing students to do their best and create an interest in what I taught, to being more of a babysitter. Instead of holding them accountable for not doing work or making a poor decision, I was expected to give everyone a good grade no matter what. There became an excuse for everything. The students begin to hold the power over teachers and they knew it. So what had always worked for me wasn't going to work now. Students always learned that I cared for them and by the end of the year they all liked and respected me. That always meant a lot because I never did things for students to like me, I did what I did so they'd be come better people and responsible adults. Sometimes that meant being tough on them when they didn't like it. But now, there's no being tough. Unfortunately, nobody wins in this scenario. The good teachers are forced to lower their standards, and the student body will not learn the value of hard work and overcoming adversity because they are reaching the desired outcome without the hard work. No homework, no accountability, and no productive struggling. Finally a year ago, I had to call it quits. I couldn't be a teacher in the world that education has become. The bar is being lowered everyday, and now administration appreciates the teacher that pushes less and gives free time more. If I cant have high exceptions from the students, I cant be a teacher . I taught in a very tough district and was successful until all these new changes came. The chromebooks did nothing to enrich student learning. Like anything else, when you give someone something they don't appreciate like they would if they earned it. Over a fourth of them work broke within the first 9 weeks. I hate to say it but most of it was politically motivated, and I don't understand why we are doing this to our youth? I better quit rambling but this video hit me like no other video has. As you said, the students were never the problem, it's the adults, administration, and the government that finally convinced me that I wont survive in education anymore. I try to remember all the good times instead of the last few years. It really was a good profession but Im afraid of the direction its going. Thank you for sharing your experience .
Wish I could have had a man like you in my life when I was growing up I was asked to leave home when I was 14 never knew my father but I'm glad I found you now I've learned so much on my own but I still have a lot to learn I'm not new to firearms but there's always something to learn even at 35.
I will look into the giver thank you for the suggestion. My English teacher made us read rumble fish and then we got to see the movie when we were done. The sweetest little old lady to always remember.
Ok Woke up late. Monsoon here last night. Was sucking water in basement for a few hours last night. Rain gauge said 4 1/2 inches in an hour. No Biggie and no damage. Anyway thats not the point. I"m about 35 mins in and I keep getting lost in the beauty of that Marlin! Wow! I gotta find one! I've always loved your property Hickok! No better way to showcase a hardwood forest! Just gorgeous! Lol I am in love! I know you love it too!
Greetings from north carolina usa simeon. Im on the n.c. Tennessee border, probably about 1 to 2 hours away from hickok's home. Beautiful here, i bet its beautiful over there in Africa, unless your stuck in a big city, anyway just wanted to say hello to a fan from another country, merry Christmas
English teachers are incredibly underrated and underappreciated. I thank the Powers That Be for the teacher I had all through High School, Miss Niell. She was a towering Amazon of a woman, at least 6 foot 5, with a fiery temper and red hair to match, but so many tons of knowledge and appreciation for literature. (And grammar!!!) I did well in her classes, and surprised her one time by sneaking into the classroom early and writing out the poem "Jabberwocky" in total, from memory, on the blackboard. At the time, it was a bit obscure - but she appreciated it!
Hey Hickok, I may have suggested it before but you should see if you can get your hands on either an Air Force Texan .45, Seneca dragon claw .50, or a western bushbuck .45 for a video. All are air guns that produce enough energy to hunt deer. It would be super interesting to hear your opinion on these kinda new class of weapon.
You are one cool guy, love the gun evaluations. My first time watching, I will definately subscribe. I was a teacher at one time and can relate, it was my first love. Love the content and getting to know your character. Keep it up!
Ive never felt dumb in the 3 or so years ive been watching your vids. Although I have learned a lot about life ,humbleness and especially firearms in these 3 years. I will admit to having good days shooting at my range, only to realize im not the marksman I should be after coming home and watching you ring the gong with a NAA Mini revolver.... But Im workin on it. Keep up the good work ,Guys. Wholesome entertainment. Ground hogs beware.

I've seen many videos showing the 45-70 and each time I'm amazed at the power of the round.
I was the same way about 2 years ago.. Bought a Henry 45/70 with the CCH finish and a matching 30/30.
Two of the best smoothest shooting rifles I own!
On the laws about hunting, YOU ROCK.. VERY WELL SAID.

Yeah, thought that was funny....
I'm so bad at shooting that I couldn't hit the broad side of a padded wagon at 200 yards.
that's just a master at work being modest. you go into any workshop of any sort, as the workers "what'd you break" that guys that don't know squat get real defensive and say "oh no I didn't break anything!!" the guys that know their stuff will just go "oh you know I broke all of it just trying to see if I have all the pieces still" lol meanwhile they're ripping through all the work almost effortlessly. just sort of think of Hickock45 that same way just based on how he talks about himself
i really appreciate you sir.i love my teachers so much...not just mine but all sufferer hard working and affable teachers like you sir.god bless you
That shot hit the gong quick, with a massive punch. Well done Hickok!
Always love the Sunday shoot around. Thank you
Hi. Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos and the informative history you give with all your presentations Many thanks, Chris. UK
Hickock45, I wish I had a literature teacher like you. I know you made literature interesting and enjoyable unlike the ones that taught my classes. Enjoyed your Sunday Shoot and Round! Many thanks, sir!
What a nice genuine guy too! Loved your videos.
Ty
Life is good!
I can tell you were an awesome teacher. You’re still teaching us.
I really enjoyed this being a teacher who got back into guns because of you. Stay well and continue the good work.
You nailed it with the safety bit. More has been changed in the last 20 years under the guise of safety it will be the end of us..but we'll be safe
Good morning everyone 🙂
Nothing says good morning better than some fried eggs, an Irish coffee, and hickok45 shooting a 45-70 lever action rifle
Wow this is the first shoot a round I’ve actually watched and this is awesome. It’s such a personal vibe
just love your videos... watched the auto AK one and just had me laughing! it's great to see someone so incredibly knowledgeable, joyful about guns, yet with no ego like some guys on youtube... just laid back southern style. have learned alot and when i have a firearm question this is the first place i look.
Ten thumbs up! Love hearing your thoughts and experience as an educator.
Isnt that the best looking rifle ever
You took me from grabbing my cast iron skillet, to my last sip of coffee this morning.
Thanks for the kind words my friend!!
1984 is one of my favorite books. Also is my birthyear. Love Homer's Odysse and Illiad.
Anything by Jack London, just about ...
Its also one of my favourite books
I wasn't born in 1984 , but then neither was the book
It was actually written in 1948 by the author George Orwell
Dohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...............................................................................................
Keny Charles. call of the wild made me cry. Ole buck was a bad ass dog.
@@J_Braz_ I was a little fella when I read "To Build a Fire".
@@kenycharles8600 never read that one. Any good?
Hello Hickok, I would not want to be a zombie walking on your property. Watching from the UK
I have to believe even a zombie would have enough sense not to wander onto this man's property
Hickok45 love you man°°°° thank you so much for everything thing you do. I've watching your videos
I agree 100% Hickok; The Giver is a fantastic book with a fantastic message. Everyone should read it.
I'm still pretty "ignorant" and "learning," too. Probably not "cautious" enough, though. :-)
Thanks for another great video!!! Nice rifle as well, throws some big hunks of lead
I really enjoyed this video. A lot of great points were made. Thank you.
Love your Sunday morning videos
Great way to Wake up
I was so glad to see a new video thanks again. Your videos are good and man can you shoot all those different guns. Awesome
You're still a very good teacher. Too bad I didn't have a Mr. .45 as a teacher in school. Probably could have been a genius by now. Love every video.
In small towns most of the teachers with kids are cool.
Love the sound of that lever action...never shot a 45-70 before...nice looking gun!
You know you been watching this channel for a long time when your wife screams "Can you stop watching Hickok45 so loud , he shoots to fast" ...
Couldn't agree more. I hate that phrase "new normal".
ME TOO
It may be 3 am for you American patriots, but in South Africa its 12 pm at the moment so the video is perfectly timed 😉😂
it would be 9 am
It’s about 9 pm
welcome to america
Greetings from north carolina usa simeon. Im on the n.c. Tennessee border, probably about 1 to 2 hours away from hickok's home. Beautiful here, i bet its beautiful over there in Africa, unless your stuck in a big city, anyway just wanted to say hello to a fan from another country, merry Christmas
@@brandonwhitson1611 Merry Christmas Brandon. Africa is really beautiful especially when you get further and further away from cities!
Mrs. Warren's profession was one such story I read on my own back in middle school 🏫.
The ring that .45-70 gets out of the gong is impressive.
Sunday gun day! I love to have one just like the one you have.
Love your stories, love that gun , wouldn't mind owning that myself.
Good morning always good to see you!
I really appreciated your video’s and I learn from a lot more about how to carry gun
Life, is good. Good morning. Enjoyed.
Hickok would’ve been such a cool teacher. He reminds me a bit of my history teacher.
