    lost battalion... the group of 9 companies of the US Army 77th infantry division who were part of a major offensive against German lines in the Argonne forest during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. They were surrounded by Germans when the batallion advanced farther than the French forces on their flank were slowed. of ~550 soldiers, only 197 survived, the rest captured or killed in combat. The fighting was so fierce and with German forces sabotaging communication lines for the battalion, the only choice they had was ato use carrier pigeons to communicate with the rear.

    • @RayvenQ
      @RayvenQ 4 года назад +12

      And they were saved from being wiped out by the messenger pigeon they sent, named Cher Ami, delivering the following message "WE ARE ALONG THE ROAD PARALELL [sic] 276.4. OUR ARTILLERY IS DROPPING A BARRAGE DIRECTLY ON US. FOR HEAVENS SAKE STOP IT." Cher Ami delivered this despite being shot down within minutes and then flying 25 miles to make it home. She lived past the end of the war, dying at the age of 9

    What is really fun about Sabaton, is once you learn what the song is really about and do light research about the event/person, then go and listen to it again. It is like you are listing to the song for the first time. There is just something about learning the history of the song, and then listening to it again.

When last Sabaton album come out, I listen it, over and over and over again and cry like a little kid (I was 23 at that point, now I'm 24 years old). You probably can't even imagine, how long (since 2016 and The Last Stand Album) me and, maybe, other Sabaton fans are waiting for Great War or any Sabaton album. And they didn't disappoint. At least for me. Greetings from a dedicated Sabaton fan from Murmansk, Russia!) Keep up the good work and stay awesome!) Sincerely yours, Nikita Pavlov, aka Nikko1900)

    Such a good song, one of my favorites from The Last Stand. And it's just as good live, too. I love how they used actual guns and bayonets to create the drum sounds.
    The song in the outro is "The Last Stand", the title track from that album (which is three years old now, and preceded The Great War album).

    All of the songs of Sabaton are about real battles and people, for those who didn't know. You can basically google the battles behind any of their songs. In this one their own generals told them to surrender, and even the danged German's offered to let them live, basically under house arrest, in a few nearby mansions and treated as well as German officers for their bravery and prowess in battle... and they still refused to surrender.
