Great safe for the money. I just bought one at TSC, an upgraded 75-5940 which replaced the 60-5940, providing 75 minutes of fire protection versus 60. It has a beveled edge with charcoal gray metallic paint and darker interior with revamped door pouches. I can't agree with you more regarding value/protection for the money. I see a lot of negative comments below, regarding Chinese vs. American manufacturing. Its neither, rather it is built in Tijuana Mexico. I am all for USA manufacturing when and where I can buy it. At the same time, you have to stay within a realistic budget, so I am grateful this safe is available with such features to protect my firearms and other valuables. These safes are built to keep out small children. Someone breaking into your house when no one is home will break into a cannon with a ply bar in a couple of minutes.
Looks great. IMO it's enough safe for anyone. Add a RING or Blink system to the room and an audible alarm for an extra $150.00 and you're good. ... like 2 or 3 factor security
Be sure to add a gun/personal property insurance added to your house insurance, it's not very much, just video tape your possessions/serial numbers ( like your t.v. ect.) The fireman may not get it out in an hour. P.S. make sure it's a adjusted insurance plan ( for the value of your stuff).
I picked up a Liberty Fat Boy Jr for $1,600 and change. Unless you have about $15,000 to spend we're all pretty much in the same boat with gun safes. The only thing a safe does is make it harder for the burglar to steal your guns. I have an inside motion alarm that sends a text to my phone ($200 from Liberty). The bad guy better pray that the cops get there before I do.
if you bolt a safe down (to prevent carry off and tipping) and prevent access from the non-hinge side and top, you're honestly going to be fine against 90% of opportunity crimes. You got an amazing deal on that safe. I am looking at this same safe at Turners on sale for $900, which isn't bad. You did a sick job with the upgrades. Just wonder how expensive the drill bit is to go though the safe.
I'll take quality over quantity all day long. Agree, can't buy a similar quality safe for that amount, but you do get whet you pay for. 14 gauge steel. No hard plate to prevent drilling. No Palusol door seal to expand during fire or smoke. Also, most of these budget safes are not that hard to pry into. Watched a few videos of two guys prying into a similar model like this in 1 minute 30 seconds. Even though cheap safes are not that secure, bolting them down to the floor does add a level of security. AS well as positioning it in a closet or similar so the sides and back are covered by walls.
People knock cannon safes, but I have this exact safe and I love it. People say it can be pried into or cut open and this and that, well most safes can but this safe will prevent a smash and grab type burglary. We also have a home security system so with that added your typical smash and grab robber isn't trying to crack into a safe and your home security system will not allow them enough time to do so. It also keeps nosey people and children from getting access to your valuables and guns. It's a great safe for the money. As for fire protection.. who REALLY knows the truth behind a safes fire protection claims. There will always be what ifs or this and that is better. For $700ish it's a great safe.
Hay man I got the same one brother.... have you ever thought about putting the EMP lock on it I thank t hats what I'm going to do with mine.... that way you can Can always be able to get in it..
dogofwar2524 I did think about that and I love that idea! But unfortunately I'm not sure that lock will work with this model! I'd call cannon before I spent the money of the new lock
I bought the same shape from tractor supply in 2019 I only open it about two times a month last week when I opened it the shift connected to the spindle handle broke off inside the shape contacted Canon took quite a while to give them all the information they wanted videos pictures receipts even a video of the battery which has nothing to do with why I cannot open it then they finally escalated it to be fixed told me it would take 15 to 20 days before they could get to it my advice is if you need something in your safe before 2 to 3 weeks by another state do not fool with this tractor supply is okay but this cannon warranty deal is ridiculous going to buy another safe and transfer my stuff once they get around to open it thank you for your time
How were you able to transport the safe to your room? I'm curious because the specifications say it weighs 640 lbs. So I assume you needed other people for help. I am interested in this safe, but I was hoping to put it in my basement, but I'm worried its too heavy to move with just me and someone else.
Costco $899 I think, love your set up. How would you get that up on 2nd floor apartment? I guess get costco to drop it off, get professional safe movers to take it up
I got this safe about 4 months ago for $400 cash from a tractor supply.ot has two dents and a palm size piece of paint chipped off.i couldn't pass up the deal
People knocking certain safes just don't understand. It's more of a deterrent than anything. The average crook roaming around is looking for things they can carry away quickly and easily. A large safe, especially bolted to the floor will save you from 99% of thefts. Anyone with the time and tools to break into a large safe will probably get it no matter what brand it is.
I would like to see how you in stalled your lights or did you go all the way around inside what was the Measurements top from bottom how many light bars do on the sides and on top if you can help me with this that would help me out big time
Good review but I don't see how longer locking bars are better. Being longer won't it take less leverage to bend the bolts? I know the bolts won't bend but the bars they connect too will or where they protrude through the sheet metal door that part will bend.
Aaron Lejuhn The longer locking bolts are definitely stronger. The locking bolts protrude beyond the door to keep it from being pryed open.....it's simple, it would take a lot more bending and prying to get past a 4 inch bolt. This video will explain ruclips.net/video/2qs6x8ppGLg/видео.html
PilotPatriot I watched the video and they didn't go into why longer bolts are stronger. Yes there better then the competitor they showed but have a longer leveraging bar you can exert more torque on them then short ones. Cannons setup is well made but with power tools all "safes" are just locking cabinets until you buy one with concrete or multiple steel layers.
Aaron Leju. They explain it at the 1 min 10sec marl in the video..there is no question that it is more difficult to pry open a safe door that has 4" bolts vs 2". Obviously any safe can be cut into with the right tools. But as far as the locking bolts are concerned, there is no doubt that 4" bolts are better than 2", which is what most competing safes have. The video I referenced clearly shows that.
PilotPatriot they explain it with no science and no explication. I'm not saying it's not a good product but from research when the bolts fail there not failing at the ends that go through the jam. They fail on the inside where they are connected to a bar. It seems the welds break or if there screwed on to rod. Cannons system with the extra plate to support the locking bolts is very smart and I think that's why there so long. Not because longer bolts are better, it's because it's necessary for cannons design.
5:00 That hole for the outlet does not compromise the fire capacity rating for the safe? 5:16. I dont think I would trust that grommet in a fire disaster though. I'll stick with a flashlight. lol
Tractor Supply has these on sale for $599 right now! (06/23/18) Because they have discontinued that model, for an upgraded model. But it is a great deal, right now! Go get you another one, because you have probably filled up the first one by now...
To: jbmoose9- Me too, between a similar model at my local Academy Sports vs. Tractor Supply. Both were the same size, but the T.S. model had a little nicer interior, and better fire rating. So, I pulled the trigger! Now I have discovered that Cannon & Stack-On (both owned by the same company, now) have discontinued making their power supply kits for gun safes! Strange? But Liberty safes still make their power supply kit.
I have had no issues at all with mine! However if you did find an issue Cannon has a full lifetime warranty that would cover any issue! Thanks for watching I hope you enjoy it!!
I almost cheaped out and bought one of these imports. I ended up going with the Made in USA Liberty 1776 from tractor supply. 6’ tall x 42” wide and a few pounds shy of 1000. It costs more but if possible, I’m buying American made. No regrets. You get what you pay for.
Understood, but this video is for people that are on a lower budget. You get what you pay for.......but if you cant pay for it.....you get nothing :-) And as lower priced imported safes go, this is a great one!

If you are reading this and have a cheap safe and think it is enough to protect your investment, then good for you. This post is for those who are considering purchasing a cheap safe, particularly those made in China. (The box-store Cannons I have looked at are Chinese). I have done hundreds of hours of research on gun safes both online and in person. Some comments on here have valid points, which I will expand on. 1) If you have a large investment of guns or whatever and you think you can't afford a good safe, think again. Anyone who has the means to buy tens of thousands of dollars of guns and ammo, has the means to SAVE UP for adequate protection. Would you buy a $80,000 sports car and park it under a canvas and aluminum frame carport? Of course not. 2) Most fire ratings of foreign made safes don't actually exist, because no testing is done. They just slap a sticker on it with a rating according to how much fireboard is in it. Though most American safes are not UL tested, at least a decent attempt by most manufacturers is made for an accurate rating with in-house or independent testing. And the gypsum board from China has incredibly high levels of corrosive content. That's what you are smelling when you open that door. 3) Gypsum/sheetrock/fireboard is not acceptable as adequate protection in a fire. Add that to thin steel, and your investment (no matter how close the fire department) is almost certainly doomed in a fire. Only ceramic fire blanket coupled with fire liners and an inner steel shell with thick exterior steel will provide adequate protection. I have a Champion Triumph. And although it is an incredibly high quality safe for the money, and it's label says 90 minutes at 1650 degrees, I am dubious of its contents survival if my house went up in flames. Because it is lined with gypsum. 3) Take your time when shopping. Inspect everything. Paint. Weld quality. Fit and finish. Gaps. Lock brand. If you can torque or twist the door even slightly when open, its junk. Stay away from composite doors. If there is play in the bolts when extended, it is crap. What most people fail to do is remove the inside door panel. It will reveal plenty about the manufacturing quality or lack of it. Cannon safes are notorious for thin hinge mounts and pathetic tack-welds on them. Remove the panel and look. It's your money you are about to spend, so it's your right to do so. 4) Don't be fooled by bolt size. What matters is how strong the bolt connection is to the lockworks behind the door. And the thickness of the jamb/door casement (which the bolts sit behind when extended). A company may brag about twelve 3 inch bolts. But if the casement is only 10 or 12 gauge steel, you can pop that door open with a crowbar. That steel WILL bend and those bolts will do nothing. Anything is only as strong as its weakest link. My Triumph's 10 gauge sides are vulnerable if accessible. But the door is double-step 1/4 inch on 10 gauge with a 3/8 inch reinforced casement. That door and its bolts aren't going to budge. 5) Cheap safe manufacturers like to use "Lifetime Warranties" as a selling point. Don't believe the bull. Read the fine print. Call the company for details. These warranties are seldom honored or if they are, it is at great expense and great inconvenience to the customer. The best warranty you can get is a HIGH QUALITY safe that won't need repair, and will actually protect what you put inside of it. These are just points off of the top of my head, and I hope they are helpful to anyone considering a safe purchase. I have been studying safes from the Sturdy Safe company for sometime, and I like what I have been reading. Does anyone reading this, have a Sturdy? Expensive? Yes. Am I wealthy? Far from it. But I have stopped buying firearms and am putting that money towards a better safe. If I can do that, so can you! Thanks for reading!
Shaun, I own a Sturdy Safe. They are the real deal for the money. They have 4 gauge bodies...not 14 (like a filing cabinet), or 11, or 10 gauge (about 1/8 inch) or even 7 gauge (about 3/16 inch) but 4 gauge which is about a 1/4 inch of A 36 steel. Made in USA (California). The door bolts are supported in the same way as a TL 30 high security safe, but at a more reasonable price. Family owned company for 3 generations. Love my Sturdy Safe. Plenty of RUclips videos about them.
Scott A I wouldnt put anything with a pistol grip such as an AR. I had issues with it coming in contact with the door, but a normal hunting type rifle should be fine.
unfortunately no, but the keypad battery is accessible from outside the safe and is easily replaced if battery goes dead. Just make sure you keep an extra handy!
I bought this safe a few years ago. I'm having some guys bring it down 3 flights of stairs and down into my basement. I'll be honest I'm pretty nervous it's going to break the stairs...
@@deadpulldadmaximumeffort4742 10guage is not 1/4inch, 10ga steel is about 9/64 of an inch! Either way...I don't think there is a federal requirement on safe thickness...especially since many "gun cabnets" and tabletop safes, wall safes, etc are much thinner...like 18ga. Liberty is the #1 safe company in the country, I'm sure you would agree they make good safes....and their best selling safe (the fat boy) is 11ga. Not much difference
@@deadpulldadmaximumeffort4742 that is a standard from the CALIFORNIA department of Justice and thank God the rest of the country doesn't follow California's laws!!!. There is no FEDERAL law about safe thickness, in fact there is no federal law that says what is and is not ok to store your guns in at all. Like I said Liberty uses 11ga, Cannon uses 12 ga. That's a difference of 0.015 inches!!
The only problem I’ve had with cannon is their warranty, they say lifetime on parts and labor, and fire and floods. This is not entirely true A close friend of mine , who is in law-enforcement has a Canon safe with the lifetime parts and labor warranty. The key keypad gone out on his cannon safe , and he had all his duty weapons stowed away in the safe. he went through the process of making a warranty claim with Cannon He then found out that they do not, repeat do not cover labor for replacing or removing a faulty keypad. he ultimately had to pay over $350 to a private locksmith in order to have the safe drilled and opened so that he could remove and replace they keypad , and then he found out that the replacement keypad was not the exact one as the one that was used in his safe so once again he had to pay more labor cost so the new modified keypad would fit and work I do love cannons products I’ve owned quite a few their safes , but they are very misleading on the warrantee information , I repeat they do not cover any labor cost unless you bring the safe or ship it to them. that’s very expensive to ship a 600 pound safe that is completely loaded up with firearms and then there’s a lot of legal ramifications for the logistics of that shipping a safe full of firearms
Yes that's true! You can do the same with a Liberty safe though and it will cost a lot more. If you want something that can't be cut into you'll have to spend about $10,000
I bought same safe , Circuit board for the Lock broke after 6 months, absolutely no help or support from Cannon's Warranty dept.sent them the info they asked for, nothing, dead air, called a local locksmith, who was no more than a butcher, now I have a $1,000.00 storage box, Spend the extra money and buy a good quality safe ,I have a Browning safe I paid twice the amount for in 1999 with a combination lock, still works great,
Well obviously the combination lock still work great lol, no circuit board! But that suck about your cannon. Mine worked great for years but it was just a stepping stone for me, I've upgraded now

Nothing wrong with a low budget option to keep your valuables safe while you save up for a better option! I have a couple new videos coming out in the next couple days i think you will appreciate! Stay tuned!
you should check out Champion and Superior safes. Better protection, better fire rating, and isn't a box store safe. Do your homework on gun safes, these companies like cannon and pretty much any box store safes are after your$$$$ and don't care what goes inside your safe. check the fire ratings, paper burns at 451 F Even inside a safe.
The title of the video is Best large gun safe under $1000,. Not best gun safe ever...lol. Fire rating on this safe is 1200 F for 60 minutes, that's perfectly respectable and on par with many more expensive safes! It's not the best safe in the world by any means, but it's the best large safe for the money.
I don't think anyone has a misconception regarding these safes being as good as one that costs thousands of dollars. If all I could afford is a thin metal stamped locker-style "safe", I probably would buy it and maximize its security as best as I could. I feel very fortunate to upgrade into a 645 lb behemoth I bolted to my foundation, with much greater level of security and fire protection than others. If you can afford to spend thousands on a safe, a tip of the hat and more power to you, I would likely do the same. I am very glad we have more choices safes than ever before.
Thats not a safe, that is known as an RSC. Safes near that size start at $6000 and quickly get to $30,000 depending on quality, size, and design. Safes dont get broken into with an axe. A thief could chop the side out of that in a few minutes.
Junk RSC. Look at the weak hinge design. Worse is the bolts on the right side (hinge side) are just for looks. There is no flange or door jam that they secure to, they're purely for looks. Meaning the whole right side of the door relays on the small, weak hinge.
I have that exact safe. Got mine about 2 yrs ago at acadamy for 630 out the door tax and all. Great deal and a excellent option for the price.

Refrigerator dolly and 3 friends
Please tell me it comes with a back up key to get in during a key pad failure?
Great job 👍 good info
Costco $899 I think, love your set up. How would you get that up on 2nd floor apartment? I guess get costco to drop it off, get professional safe movers to take it up
I got this safe about 4 months ago for $400 cash from a tractor supply.ot has two dents and a palm size piece of paint chipped off.i couldn't pass up the deal
Hard to beat that!!
How much is it now? Looks like price went up
I would like to see how you in stalled your lights or did you go all the way around inside what was the Measurements top from bottom how many light bars do on the sides and on top if you can help me with this that would help me out big time
Goes on sale at academy for $599 on Black Friday and usually one other time each year.
Awesome!! Thats when I got it was black friday, $699 at Tractor Supply, Academy and I think Costco or Sams has it too.
But, its not the same model! Different fire rating, and interior! And they were on sale again, 2nd week of june, 2018.
PilotPatriot check out this video you'll see what I meanruclips.net/video/6LgKThatkjM/видео.html
when is the best time for sales?
Nice safe. Is door removable to lighten it up for moving? Does it have a key back up?
Not sure about the door, and unfortunately there is no key backup on this model
Yes
When do you have the Cannon 64 gun safe on sale?
What happens if the battery on the electronic lock dies? Does it have a key back up?
You just replace the battery! Keypad comes off and the battery is behind it!
5:00 That hole for the outlet does not compromise the fire capacity rating for the safe? 5:16. I dont think I would trust that grommet in a fire disaster though. I'll stick with a flashlight. lol
How is your safe holding ggv up 2 years later
Hi ! Do you have a link for the dehumidifier ? I can’t seem to find a slim one - great video thanks
Yep! All links are in the description!
Thanks for the review 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Just got one used for $400 bucks almost brand new
Nice!!!!
did you hear about what liberty safes did recently
Tractor Supply has these on sale for $599 right now! (06/23/18) Because they have discontinued that model, for an upgraded model. But it is a great deal, right now! Go get you another one, because you have probably filled up the first one by now...
Ive been watching them slowly go out of stock at my local stores. Cant make a decision!!!
Strange? But Liberty safes still make their power supply kit.
there a crappy safe
its like buying a crappy pc or a crappy phone or a house that is bound to fall down. save the money to buy a decent safe.
I just picked this safe up a week ago. Have you had any issues with the electronic lock? Love the space just worried about reliability of keypad
I have had no issues at all with mine! However if you did find an issue Cannon has a full lifetime warranty that would cover any issue! Thanks for watching I hope you enjoy it!!
I have a smaller cannon safe with the same electronic lock..... 6 yrs without a problem
It very good safe I want one
I’m currently looking into safes. - Liberty fat boy,on sale today, is 4K… 😮
Hope you didn't buy it. Liberty just coughed up their master code to the FBI after essentially saying "Please."
good deal..happy for you..
@ PilotPatriot, You migh be right, maybe not a 20.00 new grinder from good all H.F but for sure with a used 30.00 dollar Makita from Offer Up, and 10.00 bucks worth of blades...if in doubt, check out some fun videos of how to open the sides of a gun safe...there here on RUclips also
I got mine ordered today! It was $600. It was on sale. I pick it up this week abdca video will be upnon my channel if yall wanna check it out.
Also Checkout Titan Pistol Vault for handguns, best ever made.
im thinking of getting this one.
can you tell me how wide the opening is for the sides with the long guns? inner diameter. thanks
Good points, Actually in the process now of building a solid concrete gun room! Subscribe and stay tuned!
@@PilotPatriot Nice! That's the BEST option. Good luck with it, and enjoy it!
Not a bad starter safe at all!
how is it holding up?
Sold it a few years back to get a bigger safe but the guy that has it now is still enjoying it
How many rifles do you think can really fit in this safe?
Probly about 44 depending on the type and if they are scoped.
Any idea why type of door storage kit would fit to replace this? Just looking for more storage for mags and better pistol holders
Does this come wit a back up key by chance?
It does not! But you can access the keypad battery from the exterior to change batteries if they die.
Do they deliver and set up or did you manhandle it yourself, thanks
Awesome review, thanks..are you still happy with it?
I am!!
@@PilotPatriot man they are back up to $900 now..ugh
@@kwmulligan just give it a month or so, they go on sale All The Time!!
@@PilotPatriot ok.. thanks!
Do you have any issues putting guns in the front row? Will the door still shut
Scott A no problems at all!! There is plenty of room in the front!
PilotPatriot great, time to wait on it to go on sale at tractor supply here in Georgia!
Scott A I wouldnt put anything with a pistol grip such as an AR. I had issues with it coming in contact with the door, but a normal hunting type rifle should be fine.
I got mine this week for $599 plus tax.. 👍👌
Where did you find it that cheap?
How many guns can really go in this? Some with optics others not. Y’all think it’s possible to get 30 or 40 in here?
I think you could fit 40 long guns give or take a few, but deffinatly not 64. And alot more handguns if you ad pistol racks!
Nice
Perfect
Picked one up today for $599
Nice ....👍🏾
Does it have a key entry?
unfortunately no, but the keypad battery is accessible from outside the safe and is easily replaced if battery goes dead. Just make sure you keep an extra handy!
To: Rob. No they don't have keyed entry like Stack-on makes. But a good thief probably can find those keys too!
I bought this safe a few years ago. I'm having some guys bring it down 3 flights of stairs and down into my basement. I'll be honest I'm pretty nervous it's going to break the stairs...
Looks like a pretty good sized gap for the crowbar thief.
That safe is thicc !
no its not, its made to look thick. the thin fire walls act like the body of the safe but they arent
What about the gauge Steele thickness?
12 on the walls
PilotPatriot that’s the least allows by law and federal. That’s not good it should be at least 1/4 inch that’s 10 gauge thickness.
PilotPatriot ruclips.net/video/KHCJzV8n4jU/видео.html
@@deadpulldadmaximumeffort4742 that is a standard from the CALIFORNIA department of Justice and thank God the rest of the country doesn't follow California's laws!!!. There is no FEDERAL law about safe thickness, in fact there is no federal law that says what is and is not ok to store your guns in at all.
Like I said Liberty uses 11ga, Cannon uses 12 ga. That's a difference of 0.015 inches!!
The only problem I’ve had with cannon is their warranty, they say lifetime on parts and labor, and fire and floods. This is not entirely true
A close friend of mine , who is in law-enforcement has a Canon safe with the lifetime parts and labor warranty. The key keypad gone out on his cannon safe , and he had all his duty weapons stowed away in the safe. he went through the process of making a warranty claim with Cannon
He then found out that they do not, repeat do not cover labor for replacing or removing a faulty keypad. he ultimately had to pay over $350 to a private locksmith in order to have the safe drilled and opened so that he could remove and replace they keypad , and then he found out that the replacement keypad was not the exact one as the one that was used in his safe
so once again he had to pay more labor cost so the new modified keypad would fit and work
I do love cannons products I’ve owned quite a few their safes , but they are very misleading on the warrantee information , I repeat they do not cover any labor cost unless you bring the safe or ship it to them. that’s very expensive to ship a 600 pound safe that is completely loaded up with firearms and then there’s a lot of legal ramifications for the logistics of that shipping a safe full of firearms
Emp gonna keep u from all it tho! They need sell the duel access emp lock separately !!!!
you can upgrade and get a new emp proof pad/lock for about $200.00 though
@@bryman31 I was about to say, if you’re that worried about an EMP you shouldn’t mind spending the extra money
Currently on sale for $599
Ouch the price of this safe skyrocketed
You can cut them open in like 10 minutes with a Harbor Freight battery powered hand saw :(
Yes that's true! You can do the same with a Liberty safe though and it will cost a lot more. If you want something that can't be cut into you'll have to spend about $10,000
@@PilotPatriot good video btw. I just hate how they can call them safes when they're just "really strong boxes" with safe doors.
@@willx1987x Thanks, yeah I understand what you mean.
Mine worked great for years but it was just a stepping stone for me, I've upgraded now
@@PilotPatriot What did you do with your cannon?
@@bullard73 sold it
Check the rear locking lugs. They dont lock into anything lol
@1:11 😂
FYI- the dehumidifier needs to be at the bottom of the safe to work properly. Remember, heat rises.
True but in the bottom it got in the way of my guns! It still gets the job done where it's at.
I have a tl30 kaso I bought for $1000 check mate.
Lol! I guess you got me there but im not sure we can count that just because you got an amazing deal on a used safe. Lol. With just a quick google search i didnt even find a used one for under $3000. So you got a heck of a deal!
@@PilotPatriot yep, right place at the right time I guess. Found it on Facebook Market. It's a model 260 and weighs 3800+lbs it cost more to move it than the safe itself.

I read along time ago one of the best statements regarding safes fellow said "If you going to store $ 20-30k worth of guns in a $1000 safe your prioritys are fucked up "
DO NOT SKIMP ON BYING A GOOD SAFE AND SPEND SOME MONEY.. ITS A INVESTMENT
I KNOW weight and placement matter not eveone can put a 40 gun Fort Knox in their bedroom on the second floor.
I don't care if you spend 500 or 5000 and if it has 20 locks 10 in long on the door,,,,most sides are pathetic of how thin they are...
Junk RSC. Look at the weak hinge design. Worse is the bolts on the right side (hinge side) are just for looks. There is no flange or door jam that they secure to, they're purely for looks. Meaning the whole right side of the door relays on the small, weak hinge.
