Hei. Happy to see the review. About the food, Lido is like a bistro, fast not expensive and quite good. The herring salad is unusual for foreigners, but not everyone in Latvia loves it. It's a matter of taste. We do eat fish often, because of our location. But usually it's meet and vegetables sort of meals. About the friendliness, the thing is if you need some directions or suggestions then approach the younger persons. Approximately 18 - 30 years old. The older generetion doesn't speak English well or at all. We aren't rude or something, just a introvert type of people. If You need any tips feel free to ask.
Hey Jolanta!! Thank you for your great insight! Yes I had a better experience the next day, currently editing that Episode now lol. Next time I’d like to go to Jurmala! 😁👌🏼🇱🇻
@@TomSolfester Jūrmala is a great place to visit. Just hope for the weather to be wright. Now we are having a anusal cold summer. Usually in July it's 26-30C°. Still hope You enjoy the stay.
True, but Latvians should make a better effort to be more friendly and welcoming to visitors, also the hotel staff need better training to meet international traveller standards.
Nice review :) As Latvian, I liked it. seeing an other point of view is very interesting. regarding Latvian friendliness - yeah we are a bit introvert. But if you gain the trust, you will be pampered like a little baby :D
Great video. Come back to Latvia, Riga is not the only place to see, its a bit overrated. We love nature. Anyway best wishes, great video. Take care mate. :) sorry if you felt hostile, we are not like that, im sure ppl didnt speak english, im sorry you felt bad :(
@@TomSolfester i have not been to that place so i really dont have idea abt that but i hope when u will go there u will definitely have tips to share with me as i m planning to fix my next destination 😜
Yes, people in Riga are "grumpy", especially, in catering/retail sector.. If you go outside of Riga, the vibe changes... And Latvians , definitely, are not homophobic..I am Latvian and Riga feels a bit Russian to me, except, Old Riga.. Went to the bank in Riga once, and the girl ,behind the counter, struggled to speak Latvian..Asked the Russian speaking lady in the supermarket, what country salmon was from, at first, she gave me a look and next thing I remember- I was gesticulating and telling her off for being rude😂😂..Yes, you will get more Latvian vibe outside of Riga..Aww, I crave Apperol Spritz, right now.. 🤗
Hey Tom! Regarding people - it's strange that taxi driver was unpolite - because they usualy like to talk. In Lido - it's fast food chain and they are interested in selling more in shorter time - so you shouldn't expect to get information on food - etc - your best bet to talk is some more fancier restaurant or pub. Hotel personel hard to tell never stayed in Riga hotels ;) Latvians ar like Scandinavians - we dont like crowds of people and are slow to trust, but when we open we are realy warm harted.
Vilnis Salzemnieks No such thing as Opera Park. Bastion Hill park just like Kronvalda Park is located within Canal-side greenery. And those are the only two parks within that green belt.
Blank looks because In Latvia there are only 62% Latvians and 25% Russians (and in Riga Latvians 47% and Russians 36.4%) In Lithuania there 84% Lithuanians and 6% Russians. So in Latvia they don't speak English as much as in Lithuania. Russian is preferred language if you don't speak Latvian.

It's ok if you compare Latvia and Lithuania, we're similar.

I think that Lidos salmon is ok
Yes it’s actually very good quality and cooked to perfection! Great value! 🙏🏼😁

That is changing though thank goodness that English is becoming the preferred language ( other than Latvian ) with the younger generation.
Lithuanians don’t have only 6% of Russians. They have just as much Russians as Latvia, only they pay the Russians to take the Lithuanian passport.
@@robertaandersone2363 this is some next level bullshit. I honestly want to know where did you hear that?
