Water types are very abundant in the Pokemon games, but quite slow on the whole. With that said, what if we got access to the full spectrum of Water encounters in Pokemon SoulSilver, could they beat the game's hardest challenge - a hardcore nuzlocke with only Water types?

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon SoulSilver Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Water types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

I saw already many of your nuzlocks from HG/SS and have one tip for you... Actually you can have Oran Berry for Falkner fight. After picking escape rope in Bellsprout Tower, go to ruins of alpha and use in cave with puzzle. In unlocked room you can find berry

Since you said you just noticed the connection of Blackbelt Nob, if you didn’t know Nob is actually in most of the first handful of gens. He was the primary translator starting in Gen 1, Did You Know Gaming still works with him and covers all his translation Easter eggs and all the times he’s appears!
There's also a Hiker Nob on Kanto R25. Nob! There's a handful of guys with fond memories of their schooldays.

Soulsilver was my very first Pokemon game. I found it on the sidewalk at my other mom’s old apartment. When I started playing, there was already a save file, and I was stuck at the Nature Park where the bug contest was held for aaaaages. I did find my way, but I restarted the game so I could experience it from scratch lol…but it became my favorite game and it STILL holds its #1 place out of all the pokemon games throughout the years

In your SoulSilver/HeartGold runs you show the Kanto starters as pokemon you can get in the game but not the hoenn starters Steven gives you one after the red fight same as oak and Kanto starters

Nuzlocke idea…on Pokémon X/Y you can catch 1 Pokémon per route per normal, but you then must Wonder Trade it for something random. Could be a different twist on a randomizer and also get some cool encounters you otherwise couldn’t get.

Loved this challenge! I've recently finished a water-only challenge too and my team was: Feraligatr, Shiny Politoed, Gyarados, Ludicolo, Kingdra and Starmie. But your team was really good too!

Furry cutter on croconaw makes this fight trivial if not a little cheesy. As long as you avoid metronome shenanigans, fury cutter builds and hits stupid hard by the time miltank comes in.

I recently watched a randomized nuzlocke where the Pokémon evolutions were randomized and even the moves! Super goofy and no real way to plan for anything but it was fun! Hopefully you can do one of those one day

I want to see the calculation that told you you would survive a seventy power stab crit from scyther if a non stab quick attack crit put you around 1/3. One has 80 power and the other 70x1.5x2. Are you sure you would have survived that?
