ngl, the recap of how the High Heavens and Seven Hells came to be and the artistic approach is quite impressive. There are details that I liked most:
- the branches from Lilith and Inarius are intertwined to show that they were lovers
- Diablo's branch is the thickest and the only one that was violently cut short to signify that he is truly a threat and how strong he is
- Malthael's branch is the furthest and leaning away pretty much summarizes his betrayal and doubts against the Council
Malthael branch is also covered in thorns and stuff, just like the evli's branches are kinda spike'y, while angelic branches remain well... normal
For someone who knows almost nothing about Diablo this was really cool to watch
From someone who played every Diablo game since it's inception this is a legit accurate telling of the lore.
@@SpaceGandalf342 before they released the Book of Deckard Cain back at D3 launch (which had small retconing) there were story bits in the game manuals of D1 and D2 (later online in the early days of the internet) that told this exact story.
@@SpaceGandalf342 Well it was broken up in the game a bit too but Blizzard was small back when Diablo originally came out... before Activision when they really only had Warcraft and some other games. It's nice to see them staying loyal to what was originally written.
Thats why we really like Diablo 2. there are some cool animated series videos on Diablo also if your interested to see cool stuff.
@@SpaceGandalf342 its not about over and over. its about one time because they are extremely well animated and just cool. you do you dont want be dripping on your cloths or w/e you kids say.
I just had the realization that Azmodan was Asmongold’s great great great great great great great grandfather. Holy crap
The voice actor IS Ralph Ineson, his voice is so recognizable that I don't see how so many people cant tell. And yes he was in game of thrones and the father in the witch.
And the Green Knight! Interesting film aswell
we just dont care... we think its cool and thats that
It makes me want a legit animated series of Diablo
he is also the Knight serving Friede on DS3
Sounds alot like Vin Diesel though, doesn't it?
No one mentioning that Inarius and Lilith branches are doing some uncensored handholding
As soon as I heard Lorath in the beta I was like that’s gotta be Ralph Ineson. Such a recognizable and awesome voice actor.
@@hozza9901 Yeah I’ve seen some of the movies he’s in. Most recent one I can think of is the Green Knight, but unfortunately I hate that movie. I will say he was definitely my favorite part of it.
The aspect of the tree in the story made me view the entire Eternal Conflict in a new light. Despite all the differences between angel and demon, burning hells and high heavens, they all originated from essentially the same source. The Eternal Conflict is no war, it's a family feud.
Yeah it is what makes the Inarius/Lilith story so compelling. They wanted out of the feud. They created sanctuary as a hidden place away from the heavens and hell. I'm sure the next installment will go more into this.
Gives a renewed appreciation to the Romeo/Juliet story.
Lorath is just an anagram of Lothar, the original hero of the Humans in Warcraft 1 and 2.
He was since forgotten as the lore moved on in War3 and WoW, but he was a big deal back when blizzard was blizzard
Also his voice actor is Dagmer Cleftjaw from game of thrones
@@Velshin1986 that was throwaway WoW lore
Before the retcon he was ambushed and murdered by Orgrim after the Alliance attempted to parlay with the Orcs after fucking their shit up in Warcraft 2
Sounds like the father from the movie "The Witch"
It’s him
They managed to make a solid video out of essentially one drawn image. Pretty impressive work by Blizzard overall
To be fair, that image is a masterpiece
That's how blizzard used to be. They did a ton with very little. RTS is one of the weakest genres to tell cinematic, character driven stories and yet they did it every well in the 90s and early 2000s.
I like how angels and demons are part of the same tree, beings with the same roots.
Satan, Lucifer and 1/3 of all the angels fell. They await eternal darkness in the lake of fire.
Was like watching a movie, Had me fully immersed
I think this lore video from Blizzard was pretty good.
Love how Diablo has a thick branch but spawned nothing else because you're the most dangerous out of all of the Prime Evils.
Tyrael says Lorath is still Staring at Kadala.
Evil dragon named Tiama....Tathamet
For as long he wants another mega-yacht, Bobby Kotick will remain the most insedious and I would argue, the most powerful of all Prime Evils.
This was a great lore video, and I just really hope they keep these coming for us. I play Diablo for the loot grind but the lore is a very close second for me.
Ooooh! They will go through the Uldyssian and Mendeln ark and Rathma etc etc! I hope they don't retcon the whole storyline as it is in the books
I have always been envious of those who have voices like lorath it can be both intimidating and reliable
Voice actor was amazing. 🥰👍
The thing about Arsenal is, they always try to walk it in!
Sounds like Andy Serkis to me
Too much smoking
@@Clouder77 Because it's English? FFS, go listen to gollum vs Finchy from the original Office.
I played Diablo 2 and now I’m playing Diablo 4 so second timer here, I gotta say that video was very informative to someone like me who hasn’t played all the games. I hope they do more of these videos I’d like to know more of Diablo lore
There are Diablo books like Sin War. Diablo 4😂 is much more canon lore based than D3 was. The D3 anime angel council short though was really good.
D3 had more books too. The Book of Cain, Book of Tyreal, and Book of Adria. The Book of Lorath is set to release the same time as the game on 6/6.
I haven't played Diablo since the playstation one days, but this video definitely makes me wanna hop back into the series
Awesome story. Thanks for this video. I for one love the lore from Diablo.
Diablo 4 is my first Diablo game and I love how much they're going over the lore. A lot of long time players say that it's going to suck but I think it's fine
Hardly anyone has said that D4 will suck in fact it has wayy many good positive reviews
i look forward to them cancelling all of diablo 4 pve content! go blizzard!!
I like how the branches of Lilith and Inarius unite ...like they were ment to create the Sanctuary ..Cool.
Nice little detail how the branch of Inarius is intertwined with Lilith's
This was so excellent I'm gonna watch it again with my homie Asmon!
The genealogy tree remembering me about the ent forest from LORD OF THE RINGS movie
4:50 Priceless 😂
The lore tree would make a sick ass back tattoo
How is this only 9 minutes video for Diablo when all other reaction videos are 30 mins - 40 mins...?
I am honestly surprised that they did no retconing of the creation story for the Diablo universe.❤❤❤
I have to say that Lorath is definitely no Deckard Cain BUT he is a worthy and welcome heir to the native voice that is Diablo.❤💯
So it was Anu who wanted to be separate from his evil nature. When you think about it, the eternal conflict was his doing.,
True.
Sure would have been cool if they used that tree for the skill tree model.....
To be fair i'd listen to Ralph Ineson read a shopping list for longer than this.
Exited about what its coming...
I want the Tree as a poster.
Off topic. But in the Uk a major retailer is offering preorder physical copies of the game on PlayStation and Xbox at a discount of 20%. That’s £56 instead of £70. I think if people bide there time you may find you will get a discount on the download version too. Black Friday or maybe before.
If the dev team's goal is to have Tyrael's homeboy Lorath become the new Deckard Cain, this video was a pretty good start.
Diablo lore is much closer to Gnosticism than it is to Christian/Catholicism. The story of aeons and archons is reflected here. The only thing that was slightly retcon is the tathamet watering down, but this video was more about the offspring than it was tathamet.
The best cinematic blizzard has ever done for diablo was the Diablo III: Wrath anime. I do appreciate though the canvas aesthetic being brought back and utilized for D4. It is iconic and although Lorath is no Cain or Marius it still hits and i am excited for the next installments.
The book of LoreArse...
I skipped too much of the story lol.
I didn’t realize that Lorath was the Horadrim who Tyrael told to flee and find you after Malthael attacked.
Damn wonder what happened to our character seems like it's been atleast 30 years
Being a new player this is very informative to get the base logistics of the story & overall lore. It’s giving me WH40k vibes a lil. When it’s nitty gritty, dark, manipulative chaos & destruction. I’m all here for it.
Its interesting to note how in the first game the divide was more akin to the Moorcock division of Chaos & Order.
Demons as physical beings that see chaos and strife as essential parts of creation & Angels ethereal beings who believe in strict order in all things.
~ Librarius Ex Horadrim; Book one. Paragraph 1. (Diablo 1 guide book 1996)
That Anu and Tathamet are latter day edition to the lore that codify the more binary moral status quo. But still allowing demons to play a necessary role in mortal nature.
Extremely surprised to see Moorcock mentioned, those stories are lost now till someone makes a web series out of them I reckon
@@AintNoJustice I'm not so sure. Certainly they are a work from a now distant decade. But the influence of Moorcock is akin to that of Tolkien. Pretty much omnipresent.
Sort of like Conan the Barbarian or Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser its simply a matter of time until they resurface in the popular conscious.
To think all of this lore came out 20+ years ago and blizzard just now decided to show people.
Hell yea that was good. Give me netflix series alongside the release of the game haha
Got damnit that was good, the story of the Diablo series is so seductive.. Im gonna have to play through D4 for that alone. 😄
D3 was a big disconnect for me so hopefully the storytelling is better in D4. The scinematics that I saw online from the beta look intriguing. 👍
drop the S in "scinematics" and you will have spelled the word correctly. cheers mate
Now I want this tree tattooed xD
3:19 the games are literally titled Diablo lol. So of course Diablo is the most evil.
Inarius to be the new aspect of justice?
That was so good, It gave me chill's.
They forgot to mention that mephisto is the oldest Brother.
Mephisto is probably the coolest of them all from the games. Also, he was responsible for the corruption of the horadrim which is impressive.
Baal had a better cutscene (iconic) but that is because it came long after the mephisto one. I think I spent the most time farming mephisto vs any other boss in the whole franchise. Gosh, D2 was so good.
Imperius defeated Diablo not the other way around.
"You've travelled a long way to be disappointed" 😂😂 Should be Blizzards new company slogan after recent and not so recent developments 😅
Nah this voice actor sounds like Paarthunax or whatever his name is.. That Dragon from Skyrim damnit. 😂
It's finchy from the Office (uk).
This was so well made, holy shit.
Asmogold you going to Blizzcon on November 3-4
And here, where Anu and Tathamet slew one another... BLIZZARD CASH SHOP! A mountain-sized trash heap of infinite shamelessness.
The Book of Lorass, i want that book 😂.
Blizzard's art team W
Anyone else reminded of the narrator from Treasure Planet?
Voice actor hard carry
Looks like the book I got when I bought Diablo 3..
The book of lorath is a book indeed but im sad to say i cant read Chinese.
when vindiesel was the voice of this ??
Amazing voice acting and even better considering it is replacing deckard cains goofy ass
The first good thing from Blizzard in a while
now go imagine Innarius mount Lilith! pop n mom of sanctuary....
People are going to view this a lot... they're going to... overwatch it.
Voiiiiiceeeee fryyyyyyy
Lilith canonically the only good higher being in the entire damned realms, lol
“Good” lol, corrupting humans to slaughter each other is not that good
I would be fully supportive of this, if the word (ideology based) RETCON would not echoing inside my head.
Lol this are similar to current destiny 2 lore videos😅
9:01 "Stealing Christian lore and changing it!"
BOI, I HAVE NEWS FOR YA!
I would love one day that they make a game called "Tyrael", basically like diablo but playing for the evils and killing the "good" twisted in a good story
Not even christian lore it's almost Sumerian
Sick
Has he watch Arcane allready ? what is this traller behavior
Very nice
Based on a number of different lore. Sumerian being the main one for Anu and Tathamet. Seven headed dragon, cosmos was torn asunder after the battle... yep.
To be honest the moment they say Azmodan.....instant thinking Asmon in the game finally?
Like hes farting into the mic
this is literally 10/10 content and story telling. Well done Blizzard… A lesson to other developers. Diablo 4 can’t come soon enough.
All this lore came from Diablo 3, though. So nothing new so far.
so much better without this dudes confused commentary, watch it from the Diablo channel
Any bets on Lorath getting killed by a goat?
Bruh
It seems Diablo is the only card left for Blizzard. If this Diablo fail, they can be left for dead as a company
Which makes me think of blizzcon will be canceled this year since they have nothing to show
@@godofdeath8785 I pre ordered the game but to me it seemed really bland as arpg.
Fail? Lmao 😂 there are more than 5 million copies preordered, this franchise will sell around 30 million copies.
@@edubogota1 riiiiiiiiight
epic
Azmongold
How lazily and crappily the text has been slapped on the page at the start triggers me.
yes, I noticed that too, but reddit would've got triggered if the font went wavy and followed the page.
How about a diablo live action series blizzard ????
An animated series would be much better. Kind of like Castlevania
The voice sounds like the guy needs a cough drop. It’s not good having a sore throat and having to narrate
This is good for new players. For veterans is just wikies put together plus a bit of d3 recap. I knew like 95% of all that was said in here.
the book of lore ass
This lore is weak sauce.
Stealing Christian lore? It's closer to Greek or Norse mythology.
"Stealing Christian lore and changing it" LOL That guy doesn't know much about Christian lore then I guess as most of that is stolen from pagan lore.
