The diablo lore that was created decades ago can carry this franchise for an eternity...
It’s good, but it’s not that good 💀
now imagine what a billion dollar company could do with that lore....oh damn...
Metzen is the GOAT. Always will be.
@@nekki9228 Too bad it's being used by a small indie developer like Blizzard. 😂
@@nekki9228 Bend it over and bang it like they do their interns?
i cant wait for the diablo 3 one, where we hear all about how a hero threw frogs and spiders at diablo until it went away
What they fail to mention and is pretty important:
1. Tal'rasha decided to imprison Baal within him self at the counsel of his best friend and second in command Zoltun Kulle (the one and only creator of the Soul Stones and their magic - he was planning to use them to steal the prime evils' power)
2. Leoric was turned by Diablo's slow influence and Lazarus' council (also a lapdog of Diablo), not because he was a dick. His story is kinda the peak of tragedy. He never stood a chance.
3. Aidan plunged the soul stone in his own head for the same reason Tal'rasha did so, back in the days with Baal's. In hopes of containing the soul of the prime evil. Not because he was distraught. Unfortunately he got screwed by Adria (Leah's mother) in more than one ways and couldn't resist Diablo's corruption for more than a few weeks.
4. The simplicity of the prime evils' motivations is what makes them great (they are truly prime aspects of evil). Their intricate, complex and twisted plans, that span for eons, is what makes them great fucking villains. Lilith has very very big shoes to fill and I already know she's not really up to the task (even if her plan is honestly really brilliant). But they will try to make her seem like the badass villain we deserve. They will try.. (I do hope I'm wrong..honestly)
5. The word for old Blizzard was indeed "Fucking Metal !". And it was awesome!
#2 is my favourite lore of Diablo. A king that slowly falls into madness and insanity is such a great premise imo 🤓
@@Gorre022 Yeah Leoric story was so good, but we never saw the "other" story were you could save his child from being sacrificed by Lazarus (there are text about it in the game first release + translation books)
@xSparda Lilith can be a really good vilain if they go in "one" direction (for the greater good kind of vilain). Sadly with how act 1 is written i'm really scared too.
Lilith has potential to be an amazing well-intentioned extremist type of villain.
I mean let's see--Blizzard absolutely hit a grand slam with Sarah Kerrigan in the Starcraft series--to the point that one could argue that she was basically the entire soul of the franchise in a similar way that Darth Vader was the soul of Star Wars (at least when it was good)--except instead of dying, Kerrigan became a physical goddess and saved the universe.
Blizzard tried this shtick again in various ways between Arthas, Sylvanas, and maybe Illidan, in various capacities? Arthas was a...decent villain, but...sort of lacked agency? Got his mind taken over by Nerzhul and then was basically a bog-standard evil overlord. Illidan...Blizzard kind of didn't know what to do with him, whether he was an anti-hero or just a shallow villain--luckily the fanbase calling foul got Illidan a great "send-off" in Legion. Sylvanas...well...bleh. "Oops, your good-all-along fork was stuck off in the shadowlands for god knows how long--AKA 18 years or so in real IRL time, so now you're just in detention doing dailies in the maw until the writers need you again".
Somehow...seeing the trajectory from the Diablo lore to Starcraft to WoW writing...I'm not confident the current crop of Blizzard writers are up to the task of creating a compelling villain, when the whole aspect of "Lilith as a mother fiercely protective of her creation wants to wipe out anyone that threatens it, which has unintended second-order consequences that the player needs to prevent from happening" needs a pretty skillful hand to see it done correctly.
As a non diablo nerd
I think lilith is super fucking awesome
Lilith is already better than all other Prime Evils when it comes to the quality of writing for Villians. I know as a Diablo fan you probably have a lot of nostalgia involved, but in terms of pure writing, as someone who only played D3 (never D1/D2), the Prime Evils feel bland and uninteresting. They have no motivation other than they are evil.
Lilith is objectively better written.
I still remember the black and white artworks on the loading screen of Warcraft III. I used to do my best to draw all of them when I was a kid.
Same. I spent hours on that troll berserker
To anyone who wants to know it's Ralph Ineson's voice. You can see him in movies like The Witch - he's pretty awesome.
was he in game of thrones?
@@kreedsutherland4207 I believe so. He's also a vocal Leeds United fan.
@@LastSamurai80 I went and looked it up he was the nights watch dude thays saves arya in season 1.
he is also in a bunch of non-speaking background roles which I find ironic like a death eater in Harry Potter and one of the ravagers in guardians of the galaxy
@@kreedsutherland4207 no he’s dagmer cleftjaw, iron islands guy from season 2
To be fair, Baals prison was the best and longest to hold out.
Tal-Rasha was a GigaChad. It was all Marius' fault.
Tal'Rasha was the only vessel of the prime evils who was actually imprisoned. Tal'Rasha could never have resisted Baal for eternity, but his body AND the tomb he was in were enough, without outside interference of course. Mephisto's stone was just standing in that Hordric Tower(Later known as Durance of Hate) and his corruption was spreading and affected the High Council of Zakarum. Diablo's stone was just tossed in a Labrynth which was later recovered by Lazarus. Baal's prison was the only one doing it's job. But oh well the Horadrim did the best they could.
I never thought they could replace Deckard Cain. And then Lorath showed up.
Lorath is alright but he's not Deckard Cain. He doesn't ask me to stay awhile and listen. I miss the old man.
@@MrZerk815 Nah instead he's like "Get a pint m8. Lets shoot the shit about some demons."
@@Pirokh yeah i dont drink ....
Im a palladin ........
Nah, Deckard Cain is iconic. The Lorath actor has a good voice, but Cain is in a class of his own.
You can never really replace Cain. But Lorath is a good addition all on his own.
Diablo lore is astonishingly beautiful
D4 HYPEEEE
Hated how Azmodan army was defeated so easily in D3 considering he played a prime role in banishing the prime evils. You can say his army is more powerful than all 3 combined as he is the general.
@@Jeez001 We play a nephalem in D3. We play the realized potential that made Angels and Demons shit their pants at the beginning of Sanctuary history. There's a reason the high heavens wanted to exterminate us all.
Beautiful?
you got to thank Warhammer for it
Blizzard is basically a wealthy kid who inherited a huge amount of money from his dad after he passed away and that's the only thing keeping him alive. He isn't making anything new or trying to get a new job, just eating away on what he has left from his father.
If Blizzard didn't have Warcraft/Diablo/Starcraft, no one would remember them. And fortunately, these 3 franchise will just carry them forever.
Blizzard North, the true creators of Diablo. It was real back then.
16:55 when the epic speech happens.
Leoric sounds like a guy who was forced to work retail all of his life and never leave.
Smoking 10 packs a day
God bless Metzen's creations of old. And those original Deathknights were original Paladins brought back to life by Gul'dan now serving under his rule. Fucking metal dude.
Deckard Cain: "Stay while and listen"
Lorath Nar: Pour me a drink
Tal Rasha was, in all respects, that guy.
After the Lore trailers, I'm more convinced than ever that there will end up being two-factions on Sanctuary and the players will have to choose. The Cathedral of Light led by Inarius and the Dark Triune Cult led by Lillith. Both will be attempting to secure Sanctuary for themselves, whilst defending it from the Burning Hells and High Heavens. This would explain the rumours of Demonic and Angelic items in End Game, probably faction rewards.
I think this could be why the Paladin has not been included in Diablo 4 at launch. There would need to be serious narrative lifting to justify a 'Holy Warrior' even entertaining the choice between Light and Dark. They can do this properly with an Expansion dedicated to the task. The Expansion could focus on the various Paladin Orders and how they've kept out of the War due to their dedication and Faith to High Heavens. This could be shown to be political and one of the Orders has been corrupted by Lillith, enforcing the stalemate to prevent them joining the War. Narrative uncovers this plot, or starts with the Demonic Order breaking free and joining the War under Dark Triune. As an alternate, could also discover the High Heavens have abandoned man and Sanctuary, forcing the Paladin Orders to feel their Faith betrayed, and it is this truth that causes the orders to split between Inarius or Lillith.
Paladin's could select one of the Orders to join (like Rogue's Guilds or Druidic Spirit animals)...including the Demonic Order, now working for Lillith. Could be a Blood Knight but honestly, Demon Knight, Dark Paladin or Unholy Warrior would make more sense and Blood Magic more like a Skill Tree etc.
Paladin of Zakarum - Holy magic focused, bolstered by Holy Auras and some Combat Skills (shapeshift Ultimate - 'Angelic Mage')
Crusader of Akarat - Combat Skills focused, 2H weapons in one hand etc, bolstered by Holy Magic and Auras. (shapeshift Ultimate - 'Angelic Knight')
Dark/Unholy Knight [of the Faithless] - Unholy Magic, Demon Summoning, Blood Magic - Auras and combat abilities. (shapeshift Ultimate - Demonic)
From a young age I thought the lore from Warcraft 2 / Diablo 2 was just outstanding. The artwork was on the edge of realism / dark and I loved that. Now everything just feels out of touch. The storylines, the characters lol. Idk. Hoping D4 can bring back some of that feeling.
Not playing D2 is an actual crime
Meh
True
soy post
then call me a war criminal i ain't played any of them diablos
I hate D2.
All this Diablo Lore is so good
Lol. ’Big hairy sweaty men’. When Asmon makes a video game one day, I hope he calls it this.
And then we fought a butterfly
a lot of this Lore is in the books and up until really Minute 9 is all before / during Diablo 1.
and now in D4 you clap for guards, how the blizz have fallen
Since the beginning of time, there was a wallet
And the ones who payed to win
The only reason Diablo & Mephisto were able to come back on their own & Baal wasn't was because they didn't have anybody to talk to.
Wow, altho that's some good story telling. I'm kind of disappointed that they skimmed over probably the most iconic and the most important characters that started all of this in the first place. Nothing about Uldyssian sacrifice, Mendeln's involvement and Rathma's help in fighting his mother. Nice recap story series but its definitely skipping over extremely important details that personally I think they are worth knowing especially since Lilith is the main antagonist in the D4
This video was recapping the story of Diablo 1 and 2 , I guess that was the intent.
pretty sure they're releasing lore in segments to make it easier for new players to get caught up, hopefully they'll cover more before Diablo 4's release
Isn't that stuff supposed to be unknown to mortals? Which would be why Lorath and company don't mention it.
@@Pirokh Ooooh, you might have a continuity point there. But then again, The Sin War was directly mentioned. Hopefully throughout the game we find out tablets or snipets about those characters and their deeds.
You are definitely right! I was asking myself the same thing.
Early morning post gotta love it, was already watching your videos
Leoric was not a dick...he was corrupted. Diablo always took pleasure in corrupting the most pure or just of people..to break hope. And yes Asmon..play Diablo 1 and 2. They have very good stories.
I really think u should look up why Asmon stopped playing diablo 2 and its the stupidest reason u will ever see in your life.
@@Zesmas tell me why he stopped
We need World of Diablo!
To be honest... Warcraft got it's ideas from Warhammer Fantasy -- Even Starcraft was originally supposed to be Warhammer 40k, or perhaps 30k in those days really...
Asmon "its just the way it" "blizz pays me to say this" gold
Actually it is a smart move to imply the whole story in, so if the player do not played with the previous games, it will also know what the hack is going on.
People really missing out not playing D2 yet. Or D1 even. i bet 90% of diablo playerbase is from D3
Dude i playied d2 and its great.
I like both d2 and d3.
Asmon took so long to know that the this story began before D1......
What's next then? Is the Jailer coming? Was it all leading up to this?
Most of this was in D3 too if you paid attention to lore there
Which vid was his rant on big sweaty men?
This grim dark lore is awesome and *I FUCKING DIG IT*
So am i supposed yo believe Lillith is a villain cause all shes done so far is try to help humanity resist the angels and demons.
0:44 Shadilay intensifies
Which studio is going to have the balls to develop this show?
nice that the map is so big :)
13:25 Diablo his own legs about to stab him lol if he stands up or tries to run
The way that video tells the story of the Sin War is cool and ez to understand for everyone but also turned into something more casual. The FULL story of the Sin War is wayyyyy better than that.
Rhykker has a full serie about Diablo Lore and the Sin War in covered in part 4 and 5. Its a real delight for Diablo fans.
voice actor at the beginning sounds like cid from ff16.
Whats the music that starts playing 16:55?
Khadgar's plan theme
I know it’s a lot to ask but can we get an edit where all 3 of these videos are put into one long video…..
Leoric is a janitor.
I imagine the difficulty of making the D3 shit lore into this metal storytelling.. a true hardcore challenge
This shit right here is why us diablo 2 Andy's remain ultra defensive of our game. Shit was hype as fuck lol
Asmon giving Big E - "Big meaty men slappin' meat" vibes here
Where is hell? Underneath
agreed 100% metal af.
I just want to play already...
Asmon really oughta check out warhammer 40K or warhammer fantasy lore he’ll be blown away lol
That voice actor is awesome
This is the good shit blizzard needed to go back to!
Diablo should go dark souls style imo
The narrator sounds a bit like Vilhelm in DS3 Ashes of Ariandel
Glad we are finally able to explore the new area of Kekistan!
In other words. There were no druids and so we hate them so much that they are nerfed xD
Baal loves his job
Hate fantasy, love dark fantasy! Btw why not do D2R? At least for the story part)
When will Asmongold play Diablo 2 Resurrected?!?!?
The lore reader sounds like an alcoholic that drank at least 5 cups of whiskey a day starting from when he was 7 years old.
This is how you print money
I like how they are just skipping the Immortal story all together even though it was billed as the in-between of D2 and D3. It's so bad even the other Diablo teams disown it.
let me guess next one will recap D3
*13:11* Every Demon going gangsta until Kabraxis Arrives ☠
The fact that even the Prime Evils fear him, the only way they can defeat him is to banish him to the void
I just hope he will become expansion main boss in the future.
hes a fun fight in the MXL mod for D2.
This diablo lore is good.
sorry but I have partially disagree with the no furries thing with the caveat that back the druids were Metal as fuck, they used what we would call a natural disaster a s a basic ability summoned entire packs of wolves and turned into bears that dwarfed trees
So I was right, D4 is a prequel
Kinda but not really? It still happens after D4, but it focuses on story from earlier in the lore.
no furries were spared in the destruction of sanctuary
Back when Blizzard had BALLS
Blizzard went soft with the D3 lore
I liked the previous games enough to get the new one.
So they really cant make one better than diablo 2
I cant wait a new version of Diablo 's lore, for modern audiences , where Belial is in reality an antihéro played by young girl who lectures everyone .
Hope they don't pull a Blizzard
I quit WoW in WoD when they released the selfie camera toy. I couldn’t engage in the fantasy anymore.
Yeah I mean the reason why old warcraft lore used to be so brutal is because it's a wh ripoff, as soon they strayed from the og material.. it became some pussy shit
Present day warcraft is a comedy.
When is Asmon going to just play D2 😂
I was hoping to hear something about Uldyssian and his brother Mendeln as well as Rathma, because they had a key role in the Sin War. Particularly Uldyssian's self sacrifice for humankind was a crucial moment that changed the fate of the universe. Tyrael vote for humanity would have been different otherwise.
How long until we have r34 inarius and lilith porn. ty blizzard
Would love to see Asmongold react to Rhykker's version of the Diablo lore series.
Asmodan The Balding Death
HUGE
Francis Magee must be one of the most successful voice actors of all time!
It's Ralph Ineson, sorry to break your dream.
I'm ready to fookin slay demons
The issue is that Blizzard saw that women are playing World of Warcraft, and their response to a female audience is that they need to put in shit that panders to a female audience, completely ignoring what drew women into playing their games to begin with. The women who played OG Blizzard games loved big hairy men maiming each other.
You should really do a playthrough of Diablo 2. why not? Just all three difficulties at least once
ATC LETS GO
YES my teenage memories, "don't worry about the rating mom it's not that bad"
The Lore:
D2 can be played through in 4 hours. Just do it dude.
I wish Lillith had huge "lore"
recap: we like money
Has asmon ever actually made any content or just plays other peoples shit? He's like the Airbnb of RUclips
you shod play d1 and d2 great experience
make a focking movie of DIablo pleaseeee! but do it good not like wow movie... use same voice actors and same ppl who does cinematics for diablo ??
How many cigarettes has the voice actor smoked, lol
