    I think you encapsulated very well the time stamp we put on the experiences we had discovering music when we were younger vs. hearing new music when we’re older. Vulgar, Arise/Chaos AD, Helmet Meantime, Carcass Heartwork. They always take me back to my early 20’s when I first heard them.

  • @ribbitism
    @ribbitism 5 лет назад

    Ola, I would say the reason you play the same riff on different guitars is because it is your go-to beginning point to hear how that guitar sounds, feels, plays.
    I do the same, I always pick and play E and G chords the exact same way when I try a different guitar because I can *immediately* hear all the nuances that make the guitar what it is, compared to my others. I hope the guy who asked that question reads this for a different perspective :)

  • @dorian1104
    @dorian1104 5 лет назад

    To add to why Ola plays the same riff, its something every guitar player does and I noticed most of the time its because it personally hits all the frequencies you want to hear in your tone, so when you hear guitar players testing out equipment/ and or dialing in their tone, they play their go to riff that hits all those tonal qualities (usually a combo of palm mutes, gallop picking, chuggs ect)

  • @steven_marque_official_channel
    @steven_marque_official_channel 5 лет назад

    Those riffs are great examples naturally flowing changes that sound wicked. So smart, elegant & dope. I didn't even know about the members of the bands, (or any of your Ola RUclips stuff,) until way after I already loved the music of The Haunted & Feared. Of all the great, entertaining things you do, I still love your guitar playing most.

    Hola. Lately I have been reading plays of the great August Strindberg and I am fascinated by the life of ordinary Swedes who strive for the extraordinary despite the stoic composure in the face of their inner unhappiness. Will you and Louise do a video where you re-imagine what a typical day would be like if you were a square Swedes inwardly balking at their unfulfilled lives. Posing philosophical questions, exploding at strangers, zooming in on facial expressions - that kind of stuff. Thank you in advance.

    Great video Ola! I'm in a hammock in Portugal currently, so it made me laugh when you joked about 'Brazilian' / Portuguese' , I recently learnt the word 'Lusophone' , which is the collective way of talking about Portuguese speaking people of the world. I also enjoyed the part about crisps for the brexiters! My question is - How did you get into Testament and what is your favourite album, and anything else random you'd care to talk about on the topic of Testament. Thank you! Dominic. xxx

    10:42 Ola you got this 100% right (apart from saying decapitated is a new band) but yh I love Pantera and all these old school bands but Decapitated for me, a 17yr old guitarist, has that special thing about them, none of the albums sound the same, there's barely anything thats repetitive and for me right now they are just amazing. Massive fan of Vogg as well, I would love to see him on coffee with Ola one day, I remember the day I met Vogg I felt like I could die happily, he is the biggest influence on me as a player and as a person. Keep up the great work Ola!

      I don’t consider myself a “fan” of anything but I do like every Tool album. As a fanatic you should sense the differences between each of their albums, and spot the evolution of themes and ideas. This album, based on its theme, couldn’t have been done any other way IMO.
      When the single was released I was underwhelmed. Having listened to the entire album I see where it fits and I see where the album fits in the collection.

    And knowing Tool, I have my suspicions that they're taking the intentional layering of tracks one step further, and may have written songs on the new album to layer over/under other songs on this and other albums.

    Hey Ola, I got a question for you.
    What is the most disappointing piece of gear you ever used? It could be something that was very expensive that didn't live up to the price, or maybe something you had high expectations for that failed to deliver.

    Yeah.... I personally would like to see what you could do with the Dime amp... I had a white one but couldn't, for the life of me, get anything (Dime) sounding or get a Heavy tone for that matter.... Love your channel... Now go find your old Dime amp and prove me wrong... Please and thank you...😊...

    As an editor in "the private sector" i recommend being organized if you're trying to save time editing. Down to the simplest detail, just be as organized as you can and edit time + headaches will be shorter lol

    I am a huge Tool fan, but I agree with you. Somehow I really like the new album, but I do find stretches of it boring. There are also many sections that sound lifted right out of 10,000 Days and Lateralus. Maybe it's because I was so starved for something new from them, but it's decent despite all that.

    I've had the same experience with a lot of metal and such, that the new stuff just doesn't impress me. And the new band's influences are more like what I listened to than what my idols listened to, so it's like filtered by one generation. However I've had a lot of exciting experiences with new music to me, from the old times. Like lighter rock and prog and such from 60's to 80's. That stuff feels fresh and exciting to me and not boring and washed up.

    I'm a little older than you, but do you remember the first time you put the Far Beyond Driven album on, whether it was tape or CD, and Strength Beyond Strength came on? I remember thinking my stereo was going to explode. I was excited and scared at the same time as that was COMPLETELY unexpected. No other album has ever done that for me. I'm curious what your first reaction to that was, and why more bands don't start albums out with their most ferocious song, rather than an ambient intro?

      Quite possibly the greatest progressive metal album of the 80s. That's the album where I learned to get over the voice and just love the Tate for who he is. Don't get me started on James LaBrie though... 😬

    There are always great new Bands to discover. You just have to find them. :) For example I just discovered in late 2018 the canadian band Rush - which is really good! Ok ok just kidding, I was a little bit late on that one. But an actual newer band was Khemmis! Desolation was something else. Or before that Haken some years ago. Or Ghost! Or before that I already knew Slayer and Sepultura but when I first heard Legion of the Damned or the first Warbringer or the early Suicidal Angels stuff it was a new level of aggression and speed. You just have to accept, that newer bands can be great.
