Darryl is the ultimate pro. He does what The Stones expect him to do and he does that very well. Unbelievable that he's been in The Stones almost as long as Bill Wyman !

At least...He should be included in staged band pics as their Bass player (.I understand he can't be on board as a member who gets the 1/5 of all the profit.)
@@TheRollingStoness I think he's happiest with it the way it is. Besides being an "official" band member is not always what its cracked up to be. People think "oh you get more money!!", well that's not the point, as an official member you're under the record contract meaning you get the same pressures and responsibilities as the others do, plus you have to be strongly opinionated on the songs you're recording, you can't just "go with the flow", you have to be in there and press your point. Some Musicians are not suited to that.
I did a masterclass workshop with him the other day. I can tell you, he is such a nice and modest person. Down to earth and always willing to give us tips and advice to improve our bass skills. God bless him and his family!
I saw the Stones in the summer of 2019 in NJ. I had never seen them in concert so I bought the tickets because I figured it would be my last chance to see them. WOW, they were incredible! 2 1/2 hours of non-stop great music! They were NOT the "nostalgia act" I thought they would be. Best concert I've been to.
And Charlie liked him, too, and reportedly had the final word on greenlighting Darryl into the group. Darryl is the best thing that happened to the Stones; he added a groove that Wyman couldn't.
How time flies, he's been in the band for over 26 years but he's still considered a ":hired hand":, not a full member. He's the bassist for the Rolling Stones for crying out loud.
Darryl didn’t get in the Stones because he’s easy going, probably helped but the main reason he got in was because he is one of the best bassists on earth.
@kevin Simala When Mick Taylor left the group, the Stones needed a replacement. Shuggie Otis was recommended by Billy Preston because Shuggie could play guitar, bass and keys. Shuggie turned it down. Rory Galliger was also considered, but the spot was given to Ron Wood. At the time, the Faces disbanded, and Rod Stewart went full time solo. Word is, Ron Wood was supposed to fill in for the 1975 tour, but ended up becoming a permanent member of the group. Billy Preston played with the Stones on the 72 and 75 tours, as well as their albums from 72 to 76.
I saw them July 4th, 1975, in Memphis. I was 20’ away from stage in a general admission stadium. The next day, Kieth and Ronnie got busted driving through Arkansas.
@greenmean1 His name was listed on the singles. The single "GET BACK" was listed as The Beatles with Billy Preston. Alan Civil was also given credit on several songs as well. It wasn't a common thing to list the music credits back then.
If Cream was playing better than ever back in 2005 in their reunion, then the Stones would without a doubt have fine honed their live concert chops despite their age.. I just wish Taylor still played guitar with them.
What a Great interview Darrell,l never knew how you actually got in , But man you gave them more than a bump in my opinion,Fit in like a glove and cool as a fan,Take Care Man,I'll be reading up on you believe that,The New ENGINE with B,B, Charlie,You are a Fantastic Bass player and a great 💓,Good luck Brian you WILL get better, Sincerely Kirk B, Memphis TN,

Darrell is a Rolling Stone to me Love the the accountant comment quite hilarious but I never joke about money mainly cause l be ain't got none,Good luck with your charity, Kirk B, Memphis TN, Humbly!
Bill Wyman left the band and is happy. Darryl Jones seems happy that he is playing with them now, and the rest of the band members seem happy as well. Everyone is a winner and the Stones will go on as long as both Jagger and Richards want to or until one of them drops dead, one or the other. More power to them.
Ronnie Wood is in the Promotone corporation and Darryl is not. The tax advantage wouldn't be there unless he renounced US citizenship, which is something you really don't want to do.
First bass player I ever saw live with Sting’s Dream Of The Blue Turtles tour back in 1985 Didn’t know he had been with the Stones for that long. Good for him !
That is the sign of a good bassist. Just like Bill Wyman, he is the anchor. If it WASN"T THERE... you would notice it. ANY BAND SHOULD BE THAT WAY. NO SHOWOFFS. It is an orchestra. Not a circus act.
I have noticed that too actually. You cld indeed always hear Bills bass better. But I do think it is,a stylistic thing and not a mix issue. Still, a valid point and observation.
@@nerzk That's actually Keith Richards playing bass, just like on quite a few other Stones tracks. There's a video of Steve Jordan about Darryl Jones replacing Bill Wyman on Vimeo and I largely agree with him. Just Google "Steve Jordan, Darryl Jones".
What a nice, humble professional. They're lucky to have him.
Darryl is the ultimate pro. He does what The Stones expect him to do and he does that very well. Unbelievable that he's been in The Stones almost as long as Bill Wyman !
How could you not love this guy? What a great vibe.
He’s very diplomatic. Nice to hear his voice and his perspective.
World's GREATEST Gig for a bass player and it couldn't have happened to a nicer Guy.

Don't forget that Darryl played with Miles Davis for a few years..
Well to play with Miles and then the Stones, that is quite a resume
Nice guy, great bassist. He might never "officially" be one of the Rolling Stones, but everybody knows that he really is one, and deservedly so!
So true just like Bobby Keys.
@@ronaran8420 Ian Stewart is the canonical un-Stone.
@@wamgoc3637 Well said. Indeed throwing a tv set through a hotel window like Bobby Keys did was probably not an Ian Stewart attitude. Bless them both.

I have seen them 23 times and he's always so on point. Fantastic musician. Thank you!
I've only got to see them 6 times but I'm headed for 7 lol i only started going at 10 lol in 1989 . They're the greatest rock n roll band ever.
He's been in the Stones for 26 years!

27 now...
He's played WITH the Stones for 26 years.

I saw Daryl Jones when he was with Miles Davis in 1987. just a brilliant musician. Among my favorite bassists.
Terrific guy, incredible bassist, cool man
I got to see him too!!!! Thank you Darryl, you were AMAZING!!!!!! Jacksonville FL loves you and the STONES ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Class act and a wonderful musician
I like his work. Voodoo Lounge came out when I was in college. Listened to it a thousand times.
Went to high school with him, he was in the Chicago Vocational High School orchestra, I was in band, he was an excellent musician even then
Darryl Jones is a fine musician. And he fits. Great insight. You can see why Keith and Mick like him.
And Charlie liked him, too, and reportedly had the final word on greenlighting Darryl into the group. Darryl is the best thing that happened to the Stones; he added a groove that Wyman couldn't.

maybe they should pay him like he's one of them, cheap bastards.
Such a great talent and a great addition to the Stones. I enjoy watching him on stage. He is perfect for the gig
Nice guy and a brilliant bass player
Every time I heard the Stones live it was awesome. Thank you for doing what you do!
How time flies, he's been in the band for over 26 years but he's still considered a ":hired hand":, not a full member. He's the bassist for the Rolling Stones for crying out loud.
It must be painful being such an accomplished musician, in a legendary band, and having to field the most clueless questions i have ever heard
Most of these talking head anchors are clueless for some reason.
lol good one

@kevin Simala I don't think anyone was going to be an official stone after Wyman left.
Being easy going helped though.
In addition to his musical talents, Darryl has a beautiful voice.
Darryl Jones is the man.
I always thought that Darryl should be an "official" Stone - promos and all. He's a great bass player.
I agree, he is a Rolling Stones
Jagger/Keith never allow anybody turn into Stone .....Ronnie played 20 years with the Stones then after officially become a Stone.
Awesome thanks for posting
Make him officially a ROLLING STONE
as much as i like the man,,bobby keys has been with the stones a lot longer,,,sax player,,,,,great sax

I can´t help loving this man. Don´t know why. Maybe it is the way he holds his head up. Like a pillar of the world:-)
One of the coolest and baddest bass players around!
Taking over for Bill Wyman is no small task. Bill was one of the best original Rock and Roll bassists.

I saw Darryl Jones play with Miles Davis way back in the 80s.
Miles only invited the best to play in his bands.
And he left Miles band when was invited by Sting,, and then Darryl was part o' Dream of the blue turtles, the best musical thing Sting ever done ..
