You people astound me. This is a heartfelt tribute to his friend. The chord changes are so dreamy and so Syd. And Gilmore plays this with a lot of love.
Absolutely. These fucktards are judging Dave - a person they've never ever remotely met in their lives about his tribute to a guy he knew and loved. RUclips is a den of fucking idiots.
I like this a lot cause Dave stays very faithful to the original, but also adds his own little Gilmourisms to the solo. I love Syd and Dave both a lot, so it’s very cool to hear their stuff intermingle like this so nicely
David paying homage to his predecessor and his friend. He always genuinely seems saddened by the loss of his friend. I'm sure its always been a strange predicament for him. He essentially has a career due to the unfortuante situation of his friends decline. Much respect for David and of course praise for Syd as well
As someone that has every single DVD and book that's even slightly related to Pink Floyd and the Syd Barret/David Gilmour story, I can say this was an amazing tribute to his predecessor. They both shined separately but even brighter when they collided.
I love David for paying this tribute to Syd, and with such respect and fidelity as well. His style is too geometric and polished for Syd's writing, but he knows that. And it doesn't detract from the gesture. He and Rick Wright always looked out for Syd and made sure he got the royalties he deserved, and I think they felt genuinely bad about how things played out for many years.
Wow, this is a lot better than I imagined it would be. I knew David was a versatile singer, but that he could (as much as it's possible for anyone to) get that much into Syd's vocals is astounding. I guess I kinda forgot how many years he spent trying to fill Syd's shoes...
+PinkFloydDO It's not the usual rock n roll stuff, not pumped up either. But this song helps me sleep... it has that something to it, that no other song does. Kind of like the later Beatles stuff. It's a little slow paced, but if you feel the moment, horripilation at its best.

Well done puts His heart and soul into a great song by and for His friend Syd. It is a disservice to David Gilmour to think He did not care deeply for His mate Syd. It was Not David's fault that Syd Barrett left Pink Floyd. Thing's happen and why not enjoy both Syd and David for Who they are/were? I greatly appreciate them both. I undertand that not everyone agrees with My sentiments on the matter, but I refuse to pick sides.
+kurikokaleidoscope i think David Gilmore played on the original recordings.. i know he and roger waters produced a lot of his songs.. and im sure David Gilmore played on a few tracks too.. i noticed some where he was listed as playing bass on a few
David has always been close to Syds intention, without copying him. I find his rendering of Flaming, PF live concert in France think it was, very convincing. Very powerful.
Syd Barrett , David Gilmour , Roger Waters , Richard Wright y Nick Mason siempre seran unos grandes amigos su amistad formo esta banda legendaria pink floyd
Does David Gilmour know who he is singing about? The reference to fish is the another reason why there are several films and plays about love for a fish man (Hellboy, Let Me Hear You Whisper, Shape of Water, The Space Between Us), and why Bowie wants to be able to swim like a dolphin.
We're the fishes. I think it's a point of how humanity views everything we do in high regard and importance but to a different species, a move about is all we actually do. The feeling and ego attached to it is a human contriving.
Gilmour has known Syd since before Syd joined Pink Floyd. Gilmour knew hum much better as he helped him after Syd started having mental issues. Roger didn't care, he didn't even work in any of Syd's solo projects. He was glad that he'll be new incharge. Roger waters is the reason why Pink Floyd broke.
Unfortunately, Syd made choices with undeservedly cruel & heartbreakingly permanent implications that even a transcendent talent like himself could probably not begin to fully understand at his age, in his time. Tragically, as Barrett began to twist that most sacred mechanism of one's own human awareness, he started to slide, without impeding failsafe, the conscience deadbolt...that lock on the door which is hanged & hinged between the threshold of reality & perception, and nobody around this young man apparently had the impetus or wherewithall to forcibly wrest control of said mechanism back from their compromised friend before it clicked & set locked forever. That's the real tragedy for me, where the hell was anyone rational, and could a truly determined loved one have saved Roger Barrett from himself, or was he simply "doomed?" Same could be said for so many of the "Syd's" throughout history. Tragic stuff, the stuff his legend was forged from, to be sure. Considering such, a curious existential quandary remains: better be it to be one of the billions of souls like all of us here, average in our day to day, healthy, unremarkable, destined to be absent from the minds of even our immediate successive generations, or, rather, to be Syd Barrett at any point after the sparkle flickered from his eyes? Damned to 35 years-life in the confined space of his own compromised head, left totally alone in terminal, hellish, spiritual & emotional purgatory in exchange for a legend which will survive the remainder of the course of culture as we know it now?
Gilmour is good at implementing that bluesy stint in any song. That's what he does here, perfectly as ever. Barrett's version is less refined, but certainly more flamboyant and unpredictable.

You can tell he feels guilty, and that is enough for me and others to respect that, he's a decent guy doing the least he can do.

syd barret esta en otro nivel
Mr Gilmour produced most of this stuff. Fantastic rendition and full respect for committing to how Syd intended it to be performed.

Sukonmi Skunk David Gilmour played a lot on the Barrett record, it's his guitar introduction on Baby Lemonade.
No, it's not. I've been reading a biography about Syd and that introduction is his work, not Dave ;)
Gilmour did not play guitar on Barrett's albums, he only played bass.
I LOVE David but I prefer Syd’s version :)
Great ' one of the legends ' do a Great tribute to an long lost friend..syd and David is beyond pinkfloyd

Who is this square and why is he stealing syds solo music after he already stole his band
You do realise that he produced Syd's solo work and played guitar for his band during its only live performance right?
I have mixed feelings about this
