This video was recorded with the Sony a7R IV + FE 24mm F1.4 GM lens. The Rode Wireless Go and Rode Lavalier GO were used for the audio. A single Weeylite RB9 video light was also used. Хобби
Very helpful and informative - thank you.
Thanks Tim, this was extremely helpful!
great and very clear short video, thanks and subscribed
Very informative! Thank you.
OMFG THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
Great vid! What setting let you have the bar on the left side @3:39 while shooting instead of blacking out the screen? Thanks!
Alpha Shooters ))) That is hilarious
I'm currently using a prograde v90 UHS II 300mbs card to film on 4k 60 at 600MB
An amazing camera for the money ! Despite the card costs ! 👍😍
It really is!
Can you compare the image quality between uncompressed raw vs lossless compressed raw? Thanks a bunch!
I might do, quite a few other things on my plate first though. There are some comparisons out there if you search Google.
Hello ! Good video ! In s&q mode 120 fps, 1080p 10bits, do you need CFexpress? V90? or V30 ? Thanks a lot :)
V90 or CF express
If you film 4k60 XAVCS in video mode then interpret footage in post, can you get by without the cfexpress.
What is the benefit in S&Q vs just interpreting it in post?
Or maybe I am completely Amatuer hour and missing out on the s&Q function.
Yes you could do it in post if you prefer. Then you’d only need a V30 card if shooting XAVCS. S&Q just saves you the trouble and also allows you to play it back in camera. But doing it in post would save you a small fortune with the current price of CFexpress Type A cards.
I seriously didn't knew AlphaShooters has a RUclips channel. LOL
Yep :) Although I don't make videos very often! Going to try hard to find more time for it in 2022 though. Let's see how that goes! :)
how long videos can we shoot using CF 80gb, at 4k 50 fps max bitrate?
Great video, helped me a lot. EDIT: I found this info in your quide. Thank you
Glad that it helped you out and sorry for the slow reply Łukasz!
@@AlphaShooters dont worry bout that. Thanks for reply 😃
Nice Reviews. One question, can you use a cfexpress card and a v90 card for simultanious record such as back up. I want to use the cfexpress as main then v90 will be as a back up? Hope this make sense
The v90 card will bottleneck the cfexpress.
In your memory card guide it says that in compressed raw it hits buffer after x shots on the Kingston uhs2 cards,
But in lossless compressed it never hits buffer ?
Is that right ? I don’t understand how that’s possible, the lossless compressed files are a bit bigger than the lossy compressed, and more computation needs to be done I imagine.
Oh is it because of the drop from 10 frames compressed to 6 lossless compressed ?
I previously thought uhs ii cards were out of my budget but the Kingston ones you showed on your website look like a great deal, thank you! I’ll purchase through your link.
You hit the nail on the head so to say :) Lossless compressed drops to 6 fps which helps it to avoid hitting the buffer. The Kingston cards are great value! Thanks for purchasing through my links!
good data... thanks
Glad it helped!
@@AlphaShooters Hello there, I just released the SONY HAS A NEW FIRMWARE UPGRADE for there A1 camera. I hasd many Fuji cameras and their firmware upgrades where and still are the easy firmware process on earth. Unlike SONY's firmware upgrades. With Fuji you down load the firmware upgrade to an SD card and put in the Fuju SD slot and turn the camera on! Done and Dusted. That's it so back to your normal life. With SONY its a nightmare compared to Fuji. Shameful
@@carmas54 With the new Sony a7 IV firmware updates can now be carried out using a memory card.
@@AlphaShooters does that apply to the A1? Please do a video...plz :-)
@@AlphaShooters I googled that and search RUclips I couldn't find anything stating the same
Do you find faster performance when mass deleting or mass protecting files using the CFexpress cards?
I’ve not noticed a big difference.
The buffer simply hits too fast with a v90 card. Given the card speeds, it shouldn't fill up so quickly. Now I have to make decisions in terms of workflow to see which card I need to prioritize when I'm shooting.
The buffer appears to be smaller than the one on the a7III but it does write to the cards a lot faster. But yes, if you are shooting a lot of raw shots then CFexpress is the way to go. It’s a pity they didn’t use Type-B cards like Canon as they are a lot more affordable.
@@AlphaShooters A7iii can shoot 40 uncompressed RAW but the MP count is lower. But still A7iv should at least match A9 buffer with V90 card.
Hi. Very informative video. The one thing I cannot find anywhere is how many shots can I take if:
-shoot compressed Raw
-use 2 V90 SD cards writing simultaneously
I’m a wedding photographer, so that’s the most important burst spec I care for. Thank you so much
If you write simultaneously there's no advantage to using a CFexpress card in slot one, as you will always be restricted by the speed of the UHS-II card in slot 2. If you used a fast UHS-II card like the Kingston Canvas React Plus in both slots you'll be able to shoot around 67 shots in compressed raw before hitting the buffer, but that clears very quickly in around 3.4 seconds in my tests. You can carry on shooting when you hit the buffer but the frame rate slows down and the display/evf will flash on/off which isn't ideal if you are tracking a moving subject.
@@AlphaShooters thank you!
Tim I’ve just received my Sony A7m4 but when I tried to upgrade the software using the CF express card it wouldn’t fit the slot in my computer
Could you help please as you have taught me everything I know so far
You need a CFexpress Type A card reader. There are quite a few out there. I’d recommend the Sony dual card reader or the Prograde one. You can update with an SD Card as well.
Thank you Tim
so a v90 card will rec all codex apart from s&q.......one more thing when I play back on my samsung tab s7 in 10bit 4.2.2 video it doesn't work as well but chopy a stuttering. or sometimes just audio. and help will be greatly appreciated. merry Christmas
Yes, apart from S&Q with the settings mentioned in the video. Sorry I can't help with the Samsung Tab issue, do you have the same issue with other cameras?
@@AlphaShooters ok thank you for your time. I'm new to Photography and videography. like just starting it something I thought I'd never do but I love it. so I'm sorry for my silly questions 🙃. I think I need a laptop for editing. thank you for your information. God bless
@@dennysmith2291 You're welcome :) Glad that you are loving it. All the best for 2022!
A7iv. Bought on Friday, on Saturday already on the wedding report from 11:00 to 24:30. 4 cards of 128Gb full Recorded in 4k 50p 4: 2: 2 10bit NO overheating problem. Damn it turns out it's good 😁

Glad to hear it Pawel! :)
Lossless compressed will hit the buffer with a V90.
Compressed raw will not.
Seems you confused these two in the video.
Can't wait till you test it with 200-600mm for birds in flight 😎
I hope to early next month providing we aren’t back in lockdown. Would have done it already if the weather here in the UK hadn’t been so miserable lately. I suppose it would make for a good low light test too! 😀
@@AlphaShooters Yeah, the weather in Croatia is also awful last days... 😂
CF express it is... Spray and play time lol
Video shooters/Still shooters….. is that all shooters 😂

what's the difference between cfexpress type a and type b?
The a7IV only supports Type-A CFexpress cards. Type-A cards are smaller in size than Type-B cards, therefore a Type-B will not fit into a Type-A card slot. Type-B cards are faster and also cheaper than Type-A right now, personally I wish Sony has used them instead.
@@AlphaShooters ok thank you for your informative reply.
These CFexpress type A cards make me mad. Sony has a great camera lineup but the type A is the weakest link in all of it. Type B is more mainstream, much cheaper, faster, and has more storage. It's just head scratching and the only reasoning for type A over B is greed.
