A lot of people are wondering how you can shoot 4k 10-bit on an SD card rated V30. Well, the video bit rate is calculated in Megabits per second and 8 bits = 1 byte. Therefore, if you're shooting 4k video at, let's say 200Mbps, then that translates to 25MB/s(200/8=25). That means that you can use an SD card rated at V30, because the V30 stands for the speeds that can be sustained by the memory card (30MB/s). In addition, you can also calculate the speed of the card from the number next to the V. For example V30 (30 x 8 = 240Mbps, V60 = 480Mbps, V90 =720Mbps). That why an SD or CF express card of V90 is recommended for the A7iv, because *if you shoot at the HIGHEST quality (600Mbps)* then you would need something that can sustain at least 75MB/s.
People see 200M, 400M, and 600M and think it refers to MB(Megabytes), but it refers to Mb(Megabits). If your camera was shooting 600MB/s then you'd be using over 1 Gigabyte of storage every 2 seconds, and your camera would likely get very hot very fast.
this was more helpfull than entire video 👌
Thanks mate 👌🏼
Very concise summary thank you. I'm likely not requiring more than 10-bit 4.2.2 in 4K120 or 1080p 240 is a V60 adequate for that?
Thank u for the explanation. It was an eyeopener.
great video! thanks for sharing and explaining 👍👍👍
Great review, thank you!
I agree with your #1 pick! I have 2 sitting in my A7IV right now.
My Sony A7 IV arrived today so thanks for the video. I'll be using it for pano shots for virtual tours so a couple of V30 cards as workhorses will be fine and V90's in the future if/when I shoot video.
Great video, and great info.
I don't know if it's my headphones, but I feel your audio is slightly out of sync. Best of luck
Very clear explination it's really help me to decide, thank you so much for your help
You bet!
Very helpful explanation on cards Thanks much!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the informative video. Do you know if we can record all-i in pro-res to the Atomos Ninja v? Thanks in advance for the info!
Right on. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Can I assume that this card info applies to the A7RV as well?
Excellent! There is so much gibberish out there that just gets more confusing. This was clear and concise, Thanks Man!
Glad it helped!
Very nice!
Samsung makes the flash memory within them. A lot of these other cards don't make the chips within them. Samsung also makes SD memory cards as well.
Finally you have answered 🙂
Whats the largest amount I can have, would it be easier to have a external SSD with usb type C?
Hey i got a SANDISK EXTREME PRO 128GB 300MB/S CLASS 10, U3, V90, UHS-II, in my A7IV and in the S&Q Mode on HD and 120fps it said i need to use a v90 card or higher, or a CFExpress typ A. But why is my SD card to bad to handle the HD 120p slowmo? Is in the S&Q on HD 120fps mode a Typ A the only way to shoot?
Thanks and very very good Video!
Nice video 👌
Nice review and opinion! Tks!
Hi, thank you very nice video. Can a SanDisk memory card be installed in slot 1 of the sony a7iv camera?
A regular uhs-i and ii yes.
Thank you.
Super smart video
Thanks a lot!
What about Lexar Professional 2000x 256GB SDXC UHS-II v90 Card (LSD2000256G-BNNNU)?
4.6 stars on Amazon and almost 5 stars on B&H.
But on Amazon, some complain about the low speed and the fact that after a few months the card died
I've never had issue with Lexar personally.
Thanks for your video guide. Quick follow up question: On the A7IV, could you get a V90 card and put it into slot 1 for fast shooting and all video modes and put a V60 card into slot 2 for using just as a backup card?
The camera will always set itself to the slowest SD card
Good One Bro🙂✌️
The comments section is always more helpful then the video itself😂👍🏻👍🏻😁...thanks guys
Thank you ☺️
hi, bro I have Sony a6500 is it support Sony tough 160gb (CF Express A) G400 write speed of up to 700MB/s2, high read speed of up to 800MB/s
Hey what sd card do you recommend for the new Sony a6700 to record all modes with no issues up to 4k 120. And which one is fine to use for normal 4k and fotos. Thanks hope you can help
V90 cards
i’ve got an a7iii, would a v30 uhs i card be fine for 4k 24p and 1080 120p
I would invest in something faster to take advantage of your cameras awesome features. Buffer is a considerations as well.
W Video bro
Would a Sandisk V30 64GB UHS-1 SD Card work in the Sony A74 and Sony A7Siii
You'll want something faster to take advantage of what these cameras have to offer.
@@StefanMalloch Ok. But would it work for like 10 bit 1080 HD
I have bought Alpha Seven Mark 4 camera, with Extreme Pro 128GB memory card, unfortunately it gets very hot, I don't know what to do, what do you think I should do?😪😪😪
Check out my video on overheating.
Do you have 256gb in the second compartment?
I was debating on the CF-A originally but i've ruled that out for now so just waiting on another sale for my other uhs-ii
so what's the point of the CFexpress then?
Instant write speed maybe? Like u see in the first test when he stops, it still saving , its fast but still saving
Lexar ☺️
Hello from México, nice video 👌🏻😎
The Prograde v90 don't works for 4k 60fps crop 10 bit 4:2:2 600M (alli-ntra recording)...
I think only works on 10bit 4:2:2, all-intra 4k 24fps
For the first propouse i wonder ¿it's only capable cfexpreds tipe A card for recording 4k 10bit 4:2:2 all-intra 60fps? There are another option SD card for recording 4k 60fps 10bit 4:2:2 all-intra?
(Sorry for my Bad English)
No problem. I can confirm that the 60fps 600M does work with the uhs-ii v90. I spent all yesterday shooting in that setting.
*To confirm, it works in regular video mode but not in S&Q mode.
Ok.
@@StefanMalloch does it also works with UHS-II v60 ? The 4K 60fps in 10bit 4:2.2 ?
V30 for my crop bodies, V90s for my FF. I don’t reuse cards. They stay as backup after HD transfer. Never had a failure.
dang thats gotta be expensive
Wth you dont reuse cards 💀💀💀
bro v30 its okay to shoot 4k 10bit?
Yes. Depending on what you choose in your video settings. For instance, a card rated V30 has sustained write speeds of 240Mbps, therefore if you choose 200M 4k 10-bit then the V30 SD card would be sufficient enough.
What about 4k 120
A7iv isint capable of it.
Wow that was like an automatic rifle.
can v60 recored 60fps 10bit 422?
Yes it can do 4k 60 10 bit 422 just in the HS mode. For S-i you would need v90. Basically it would be a little bit more compressed and therefore harder to edit with as your computer would have to uncompress the video. So TLDR v60 is a good enough but if you have the budget to splurge go v90.
@@Nathan.Klemstein I just boughht the tough v90 128. I have the money I would just prefer to not spend it if I dont have to.
Will these specs be enough?
