    In this video we take an in depth look at the Maxim 9 from SilencerCo, the first commercially available integrally suppressed handgun. Special thanks to Quiet Riot Firearms in McDonough, GA for letting us play around with it for the afternoon. The Maxim 9 can be converted from its full size configuration into a smaller "K" configuration via a very simple disassembly process. We did experience some reliability issues with the K configuration with certain types of ammo, but aside from that the gun itself ran quite well, and save more a few minor negative points discussed in the video we were pretty impressed. Stay tuned, much more on the way

      Nobody it's why I stay in Ohio. Rifle silencer laws shouldn't exist but for a concealable right now can stay on the controlled list. The fact a shotgun or home defense rifle or AR and ak pistols shooting will blow out your ear drums we need home defense/hunting hearing protection.

    They should make a Maxim 45. .45 ACP is subsonic by nature. Perfect for suppressed fire

      True but subsonic 9 cost less than 45

    • @Predalien195
      @Predalien195 7 лет назад +14

      +Stop Vargposting Except .45 ACP carries more kinetic energy than 9x19 Sub sonic, the lower magazine capacity doesnt really matter that much when talking about guns like this. They are highly specialized for specific tasks or they are range toys. IF you use it for say pest control or hunting, the magazine capacity will be irrelevant given most state laws regarding capacity and hunting. IF you plan to make this a self defense tool(which I wouldnt suggest), capacity MAY matter, but when you're talking 12 shots or more in a double stack, it's a moot point.
      As far as the "recoil" yeah, the .45 WILL have more, but the advantage is the felt recoil is no different without the suppressor so it's easier to adjust to switching from suppressed to unsuppressed if need be on other guns. In short, if you're competent with .45 when it's loud you'll do just as well as the recoil wont change, if anything it may be lighter with the additional weight of the suppressor.
      So would I rather have a 158gr or 147gr slug pushing 800 fps or a 230gr pushing 850 fps.... Not a hard choice, the .45 will deliver superior performance. Larger wound cavity, deeper or similar penetration, better hard barrier performance when comparing the relevant sub sonic 9x19 loads. Now, super sonic things get different, but still not as much as some people make it out to be. Unless you're an LEO on duty or a soldier in combat I dont know how much ammo you think you need(one never knows till they need it) but with a double stack, 12 or more should do for ANY caliber for self defense need. For hunting as mentioned you'll be limited. So, this gun actually would be better for .45, but 9x19 is way more popular at the moment.

    • @twilightzone39
      @twilightzone39 7 лет назад +2

      Christopher I agree with the magazine part. I'm in Cali, and if HPA passes, then the only thing we have to worry about is mag capacity and the stupid firing pin serial number stamp. I imagine that in states with mag cap restrictions, .45 ACP with a heavier frame would be ideal. The heavy frame (like on a 1911, which is why dudes with 1911s don't complain about recoil cuz their gun isn't a plastic pistol with a tiny bullet *coughcough* glock*cough*) would help control the recoil and the .45 ACP has smaller capacity by nature but still gives you excellent firepower despite that. In a state with mag restrictions, magazine capacity doesn't matter as much. No matter the caliber or model, you're still gonna be restricted to 10 rounds.

    It'd be interesting to see the decibel difference between a bunch of different configurations (different calibers, SBR vs handgun, different silencer brands, different ammo, etc.). It's hard to tell exactly what the difference is through video, so an actual meter would give a concrete measurement for everyone to see.

    • @tylerbuchholz3234
      @tylerbuchholz3234 7 лет назад +5

      000Bob000jones000 I would like to see some measurements taken while shooting inside, whether it's an indoor range or just inside a building, outhouse, mockup of some sort, etc. That's data we can use to make an informed buying decision.

    • @aspenfacer-valentine4397
      @aspenfacer-valentine4397 7 лет назад

      Tyler Buchholz I agree, though an indoor range might not be the best indicator of how loud it would be in the home, they have noise dampening walls a lot of times.

    • @bonzwah1
      @bonzwah1 5 лет назад +1

      I have no idea why that isn't just standard for any video review of a suppressed gun. perhaps the meters are expensive? honestly I would be chill with a super low quality one. we aren't really looking for the exact decibel level, just relative differences between different shots.

    OK, maybe I missed it, but does this barrel use a barrel venting system?
    The Welrod, which I consider the Gold-standard for a quiet pistol, used high/low pressure to great effect.
    The barrel of the Welrod was perforated extensively just past the chamber to release high pressure gasses once the bullet was under way. Since the round had to be subsonic, losing pressure this way actually allowed the use on standard ammo in some cases.
    The barrel venting area had its own expansion chamber and bronze screen wrapping, isolated from the muzzle expansion chamber.
    The bronze screen acted as a heat dump: by cooling the gasses you reduce their volume and pressure.
    The bullet left the muzzle with reduced gas pressure and temperature, protecting the rubber wipers.
    OK, this gun doesn't have wipers, but does it vent the barrel?
    BTW, the barrel venting chamber would release its gasses by back-flowing through the barrel vents and out the muzzle-end.
    Fairly slow process.

    since you kept bringing up the different things that make a pistol accurate, (fixed barrel, good sights, ect) I would really like to see you guys do a review video on the Tanfoglio Force 99 ( in 9mm or 40). these are great Italian made pistols, very competitively priced, and many features that make it a super accurate pistol. not to mention, Tanfoglio produces some extremely nice (and extremely expensive) race guns and competitor target pistols. the force 99 has got a fixed 4.5" barrel, and the slide runs on rails on the INSIDE of the frame like the old Sigs use to, combined with a decent adjustable rear sight. I picked one up in 40, and I absolutely love it. Easily out shoots my Glock 19. In Canada you can pick up a new one for around $400.

  • @michaelc7723

    This is my home defense gun. Superbly accurate, but only with an MWS trigger kit. Factory trigger makes it impossible to fire accurately for most people, but you can buy the kit and get it installed for under $100. If you want a red dot, the plates they have available are compatible with a leupold deltapoint- the ones for less expensive sights are apparently permanently "out of stock." Two annoying, but correctable flaws. A superb machine, but the total package will exceed $2200.

  • @panorama4526
    @panorama4526 7 лет назад

    The heat distribution seems to be the major problem. But if you try to make a projection into the future, the materials will change, the size will be scaled further down, the trigger will improve, and the concept will develop.
    This gun has a lot of potential, and other companies will follow. Space gun with real consumer benefit. I like it...
