Gotta give credit for Disney actually preserving the deleted scenes of Snow White during a period where most movies would destroy unused footage and the resulting footage being lost forever.

Robin Williams actually had Lewy body dementia. He had been misdiagnosed with Parkinson's earlier, after experiencing severe symptoms. The Lewy body dementia was only discovered during autopsy. It had been affecting his mind, emotions, movements, sleeping, and personality tremendously. His amygdala, which regulates fear and anxiety, had high amounts of Lewy bodies. I can't even imagine what he must have been feeling then.

This is a VERY CONTROVERSIAL statement but I’m glad Song of the South exists, it pioneered a huge movement and it was one of the first films to star an African American. While the film may not be acceptable to people of today’s standards I do believe the film was made with good intentions and not like other films of the time ( with intentions to be purposefully hateful ) I’m a huge fan of Lost Media and it’s why I believe films and shows no matter how obscene and ill-dated , they may be need to be preserved as they are staples of history and show us how far we’ve come. It’s a shame that Disney has gone so far as to hide there past and act as if it never happened but the truth is it did and while one may only focus on its negative connotation I choose to look at the good it did for the African American movement in Cinema. The truth is Human History is not perfect but needed to start somewhere. As controversial as The Song of the South maybe it’s something I believe shouldn’t be forgotten about.

My mom was a HUGE fan of Robin Williams, ever since Good Morning Vietnam (before she was a mom, she listened to the sound track everyday driving to and from work). He was like a kindred spirit, same sense of humor, same personality, same vibrant appeal. While she wasn't the best at character impressions, she loved trying her hand at them, with Donald Duck being her best one. She watched anything that starred Robin, and once she got into RUclips vids, would seek out as much of his material as she could that was available. If the full 14 hr cut of Robin's take of the genie was available, she would've listened to it, start to finish. His passing was soul-crushing for her. It was like losing a best friend, and it stayed with her in the years after.
She herself succumbed to her cancer in February of 2020. While I'm not Christian, I do believe in an afterlife. I like to think mom finally got to meet her idol, and Robin has a collaborator to help entertain the other good souls there with them. Hope for her sake Robin's work is kept preserved for centuries to come

I can’t confirm this, but supposedly the reason the date was removed was because at the time Song of the South was made, it would’ve been considered inappropriate to allude or mention things like slavery or the civil war. Of course things changed over the years, and today it’s considered inappropriate to ignore these things!

    • @pegasusactua2985

There were several movies released prior to Song of the South such as Gone With the Wind and Birth of a Nation that explictly portray the civil war and slavery. So that wouldn't make any sense.

@@pegasusactua2985 I agree. Thoughhhh, maybe because this was directed at a younger audience that may’ve had something to do with it? Most likely it’s wrong or at least half-right though.

It’s such a weird thing, I’m a U.K. 80s baby and I’m sure I can remember seeing promos forSong of the south in magazines and videos. Maybe because the American Civil War and it’s connotations weren’t that controversial here.
I’d love to see the 7 Dwarves prequel, sounds really interesting and original.

Great video! I watch a lot of Disney related content and have found new material to be more and more sparse, its nice to have a video full of content I haven’t heard before! Also I love the commentary, you handled the more controversial topics covered with sincerity and respect. I tend to see people sensationalize these topics so, to hear someone do them justice was nice.

One thing that's been totally forgotten is that in the mid 2000s, Disney was meant to do an adaptation of _One for sorrow, two for joy_ by Clive Woodall (or at least that's what the marketing campaign of the book said). Anyway, I haven't heard anything about it since, and it honestly doesn't surprise me, considering the gleeful detail it goes into when describing violence and rape.

I dont know if you know about this but Maleficent was supposed to get her own movie that was either 2d animated or 3d. But it would've centered around how she became a villain. It was supposed to cone out during the 2000's but it was ultimately cut due to disney not liking the idea of the backstory of the villain.

I really loved Song of the South as a kid and got to see it at the movies one of the last times it was at the show. Is it racist? Maybe but so are Gone With The Wind and Birth of a Nation (this one is definitely racist). However, I do not believe in censorship at all and am sick of people trying to ban politically incorrect things. My opinion is if you don't like it, DON'T WATCH but don't tell others what to watch. I'd like to see them release this one again (maybe just on Disney Plus) with the disclaimer that this was filmed in a different era. I'm not a racist or support racist people by any means but am a cinephile and love classic movies, even if by today's standards are politically incorrect.

Wile is just an minigame galore of getting the tokens, there likely made full 3d models of them thinking they are planning an sort of total reboot without the african american being involved.
